Hooked again at Hooked

Went there again with <<IVY>> after dining at Rosie Jeans!!

HOOKED must have been flocked with chip lovers because they keep running out of chips!

A friend that I recommended this place to went today [9-april-14] and they were serving crinkle cut chips.
BUT, the staff didn't ask her which salt she wanted so she missed out on the different choices of salt they offer.

Apart from Beers, they have other beverages from Australia.

Chicken pie (pukka pie) $55:

It was so nice that <<IVY>> brought some cutlery along because I told her they don't have forks.
Anyway, the chicken pie was nice and the filling was quite thick which meant that you could probably eat it with your hands.
The pie crust was nice and flakey and it wasn't oily.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Battered banana $10:

Tried this on another visit without <<IVY>>.
I was surprised it was a WHOLE battered banana which was not even sliced in half!
I would advise shaking the bag before eating it because the cinnamon and sugar is at the bottom of the bag.
The banana was delicious because the battered coating was extremely light flavoured by the sugar and cinnamon.

Will J&G Fried Chicken stay for good?

J&G Fried Chicken (Tseung Kwan O)

Before J&G Fried Chicken came along, its predecessor on this street was Big Big Chicken but now they have moved to a smaller unit at the Food Kiosk which is probably cheaper to rent.

I am not a Taiwanese food fanatic but Ji Guang from Taiwan has opened its first store in Hong Kong on November 20, as part of its expansion plan in Asia.
As well as Hong Kong, you can also find them in Singapore but the food options are slightly different, they have fried squid in Singapore.

For more info you can go to their site at jgssg dot com

Currently the menu in Hong Kong is limited and will probably be expanded later depending on hows thing go.
The items that they serve are:
- Crispy chicken nuggets
- Crispy king oyster mushrooms
- French fries with green onion and garlic
- Spa chicken filet (white meat)
- Ice fruit tea/Iced tea/Plum tea

I had my doubts on the chicken so I opted for the crispy king oyster mushrooms which are diced bite size pieces of king oyster mushrooms dipped in batter and fried.

Although this is vegetarian, the mushrooms are fried in the same oil that the chicken was fried in so if you're a strict vegetarian then beware!

After the mushroom is fried, they are put in the metal tray to be served.

Then they are put in another smaller metal bowl and weighed so that every portion weighs the same, and then seasoned with spices.

While I was waiting for the fried mushrooms I thought I could hear the staff singing or rapping.

Crispy king oyster mushrooms:

Before I tried it, I assumed it was going to be really oily with lots of oily oozing out but surprisingly it wasn't and the batter coating was really crispy and thin.
The oyster mushrooms were really juicy, meaty and earthy too which went nicely with the crispy batter that was flavoured by the spices.

Chips with Edmond Fallot mustard sauce

Chip In Fish & Chips (Sai Kung)
I was back again for my favourite chips.

This time I had a jar of mustard which was given to me by La Rotisserie at the tasting.
Initially I planned to use the mustard on the roast chicken at Cheeky Chicken, but it packed up so suddenly.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chips:

As usual, the chips were perfectly fried and I put plenty of vinegar on it which makes them extremely appetizing.
After having a few, I used the Edmond Fallot mustard on the chips.
It was surprisingly quite good because the mustard had a slightly tart taste and did not have that powerful mustard sting to it.
Edmond Fallot's mustard sauce on chips is definitely good.

A big disappointment with Roadside

Shop: Roadside (Prince Edward)

I rarely go to the North end of Prince Edwards, so this time I gathered 3-4 places I wanted to try around that area:
Lan Yuen Chee Koon, Roadside, Bake & Bite and Ueno Bakery & Enzyme.

This was the first shop on my list because it was the closest to the MTR exit.

However it was 3.15 and it had still not opened so I went to Bake & Bite first.
[Their opening hours are from 3pm]

After eating at Bake & Bite, this shop was finally open!

I did not appreciate the loudspeaker pumping loud music right above the ordering counter because it was hard to order food.
It was so loud you could hear it across the road.

This was the shop that actually made me come to Prince Edwards because of all the Western snacks.

I was really looking forward to this place and was really disappointed by this place because I wanted to order the curry lamb pie, scotch egg and the salted pork knuckles as shown on their Facebook page.

A different menu when I got there

So I ended up ordering fish and chips and Dover fish bites.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fish and potato wedges:

I was expecting fish and chips as shown on their Facebook page, but it was potato wedges.
The fish had been marinated for too long and it was too salty.
The batter was too thick.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Dover Fish bites:

These were pieces of fish coated in breadcrumbs.
Initially it was nice but a lot of it was drizzled with sweet sauce so I did not like it.
It was also very salty.
I can't quite correlate the name with Dover because in Dover (in the South East of UK) they don't do this snack and the fish was not dover sole either.

Fried snacks at Kennedy town

Went to Kennedy Town again now that I know the bus route Thanks to Mjqueen7e.

After dining at Boulangerie I was still hungry so I decided to get some more food as well as going to see that dog.

The shop on the corner looked interesting because they did fried snacks.
There were so many different snacks including wontons with a cute tie around it. The fried snacks looked nice and golden yellow but unfortunately they were fried again so they were dark brown when served. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Breaded Cuttlefish patty: The breaded coating was thick and the cuttlefish was tasteless.
It was so soft that it was falling apart and not holding together after taking the first bite.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Octopus patty: The patty was really soft and tasteless and it was mainly made of flour.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cute dog:
I discovered this cute dog on my first visit to Kennedy Town and it was great that it was there again this time.
I prefer cats but the colour and fur of this dog is unique.
The colour and scruffy fur is really nice and surprisingly soft and silky to touch!
It was really friendly on my first visit, but it was asleep this time!~
