Ruby Chocolate suspicions confirmed
2019-11-19  313 views
At the beginning of the year, had the best pink chocolate drink from here.Decided to revisit for some more pink hot chocolate.
It was a different person there that day so asked if it was ruby chocolate that was used and it was.
Ruby chocolate is the fourth chocolate following white, milk and dark introduced in 2017 by Barry Callebaut.
The hot ruby chocolate drink is made by melting the ruby chocolate pellets and mixing with milk.
It was my lucky day as I got to try the melted Ruby callets which were sugary sweet with a note of raspberry.
The actual ruby hot chocolate drink is sweet and dreamy almost like drinking raspberry hot chocolate so I definitely recommend it.

Gioconda Scott stars at Kitchen Savvy with irresistable Spanish Fare

It's Spanish month!!! Chef #giocondascott will be at Kitchen Savvy from Seville, Spain and joining the team to serve some irresistible Spanish fare!

Went to the preview at Kitchen Savvy and tried Gioconda Scott's dishes which were authentic yet served with a modern twist.

Here was what we had:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Gioconda Gazpacho Andaluz]
This was a refreshing chilled soup great on a hot day.
With the tones of appetizing tomato it definitely was a great start before dinner.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Bunuelo de Camarones]
The golden little morsels were just like non spicy Indian Pakoras with crispy crushed shrimps in it that gives it a lovely flavour from the coast.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Tortilla Espanola]
Looking like the usual Spanish Tortilla,  it had a minty twist to it with mint leaves.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Chipirones a la Plancha]
Fresh baby squids can never fail to impress and do not require much seasoning.
The texture of these were beautiful with a crisp skin and a delicate texture that gives in.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Pan Con Tomate y Jamon]
The pairing of ham and finely smashed tomatoes were flawless.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Empanada Chorizo y Cebolleta]
I loved the way,  Gioconda has given them a South American Empanada appearance.
Inside they were filled with chorizo which gives it a wild smoky flavour.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Presa Iberica with Smoked Paprika, Crispy Broken Potatoes, spinach with Chilies, Raisins and Pine Nuts]
The main dish was surprisingly comforting as it looked like roast dinner complete with roast potatoes and leafy glistening spinach.
My favourites had to be the potato and spinach which had a fiery kick complimented by the sweet raisins.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Almond Cake]
Finished with the almond cake which was loaded with finely grounded almond topped with cream fraiche.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Churros with Chocolate Sauce]
There was churros as well which was a nice way to end the meal.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Truly freshly steamed seafood

Insteading of starting winter with a hotpot, we decided to try this new restaurant called Steamy seafood cuisine, which is the latest trend where all food gets steamed.
It was my first time trying out steamed seafood.

The restaurant is big and spacious.

There is a chilled section that displays the seafood and other dishes.

Prices of the seafood are clearly displayed on the board.

There is a sauces and condiments bar for the seafood and they also have tubs of Apollo icecream.

The menu was really useful because it tells you how long to steam each type of seafood for.

At Steamy seafood cuisine, you steam one type of seafood at a time which is good because you can enjoy it freshly steamed and move on to the next seafood when your ready.

Beneath the steamer is a pot where they will place rice and meat so that by the time you finish all the seafood, you will end up with delicous congee infused with a mix of seafood flavours.

I really enjoyed the dinner because there was a good variety of seafood and I got to try a whole Alaskan crab and these huge oysters which I have not tried before.

Here was the seafood that we had:
++++++++++
Balmain bugs:
I couldn’t wait to eat this because there was roe on it and I don't often come across Balmain bugs let alone Balmain bug roe.

After it was cooked, the roe was vibrant orange.

Although the balmain bug tastes good, the roe stole the show because it is similar to prawn roe where it is crisp and filled with salty briny liquid.
The balmain bug tastes like tender sweet lobster but I would prefer it if they didn't put crushed garlic on it because I like eating seafood plain when it is fresh.
++++++++++
American Stone oysters:

These oysters were huge and remained the same size after they were steamed.

They tasted sweet and satisfying because of the size but one is probably enough per person.
+++++++++++
Alaskan crab:

I have always wanted to try this and it was just fun to share a whole one!
It was so good that I want a whole one to myself next time.
The crab legs are big and the crabmeat comes out easily when you use chopsticks to push it out.
The crabmeat was just simply sweet with a strong taste of the sea!
+++++++++++
I can't wait to come back for the oysters and crab.

A wasted visit to Sam's Cook

Went there especially to try the noodles in milky broth.

When I got there, I couldn't quite find the handle to the door so they opened it for me.

The decor was plain and simple.

Drinks:
The macaroni came with drinks, but it was the Chinese range, so just took a few sips because I don't drink Chinese style drinks.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Macaroni with egg white, organic tofu and tofu puffs:

I was really annoyed with this because it was meant to come in pure white pork bone broth but it was not white at all.
Anyway I asked them why it was not white and he asked the kitchen and told me that it was sold out.
I wish they had told me when I ordered because it wasted my time and effort to dine there when I could have gone elsewhere.
However I should be grateful that they served me patiently because I was the last customer.
Apart from the broth, the other elements such as tofu, egg white, sweetcorn were quite nice and healthy.
