[Review] Tai O delights found at North Point

If you have been to Tai O, it is fishing village famous for prawn paste, seafood and salted seafood.
At Tai O Tak Fat, they serve delights from Tai O Village as well as local Hong Kong stuff so it makes sense to try Tai O dishes here.
There were so many Tai O delights to choose from on the menu.
They also sell jars of home made Chili oil which can be found on the shelves.
Started with some salted lemon drinks.
For food, tried the signature salted fresh fish which is like Chinese style Bacalhau but you get a whole fish here.
The texture of the fish is firmer and tastes salty so it goes well with rice.
We also had the steamed fish head in two ways, one side was black beans and the other side was chili.
It's nice but too many bones so you don't get much fish out of it however the vermicelli beneath was delicious having soaked up all the delicious flavours from the fish head and the black bean flavouring.
Finished with the dried prawn glass vermicelli pot which was light and healthy.
As well as the food, the staff there are such a friendly and lovely bunch.
They speak English as well and there is an English menu.

[Mr. Cumin] A place to cure lamb cravings

I don't know why but I just love Cumin so I was drawn here.
Cumin is normally paired with lamb and sprinkled on skewers which is just what this joint serves.
As well as the skewers, the rice with minced lamb sauce is a must order.

It was breathtaking watching him grill the meat and you can even feel the flames so I guess don't stand too close!

I wonder how he is going to cope with that heat later when the temperatures are going to reach 32 degrees C plus!!

As well as grilling the meats, it is then torched to ensure that hard to reach areas are evenly done.

Here was what I had:
++++++
Chicken wings stuffed with glutinous rice:

I am not keen on stuffed chicken wings but I loved this because it wasn't too oily or fat after the way they grilled and torched it.

The glutinous rice in the middle had a good flare of spice that gives it a good spice kick that doesn't linger.
++++++
To be honest, I found the lamb skewer and lamb chop quite similar but it depends if you prefer chunks of lamb or a juicy lamb rack.

Now to the star of the show, MINCED LAMB WITH RICE.

Looking very spicy with generous flakes of chili, I was fooled because it was not spicy at all and the minced lamb was so tasty and lean which was delicious with the rice.
If you mix the egg, it becomes even more heavenly with the richness of the egg yolk.

It would be great if they have onsen eggs which you could completely mix it in.
The courgette slices were sweet and tasty and I liked the way it was evenly cooked.

Burst egg yolk at See See Look Restaurant

LOL, what a name! See See Look Restaurant .

Came here randomly because I haven't tried this place.

It was good that they had an English menu which serves MICED MEAT, SOFE DRINK and STATY BEEF.

I was deciding between the egg and tomato and the fried egg and luncheon meat.
In the end I got the luncheon meat.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
soup:

The soup was just the usual Chinese broth.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
fried egg and luncheon meat:

It was good that they give you the soy sauce separately so you can decide how much you want to add but the thing that let it down was the burst egg yolk and the rice was too soggy.
The luncheon meat was soft and tasteless but the egg was quite nice especially the egg white because it was delicate and fragrant.

Chicken Tikka Pizza

Tulsi is one of the best places for curry, but this time I went for the pizza because their lunch sets are quite funky.

They had interesting things like butter chicken fusilli.

The pizza base was a naan bread which had a soft and chewy texture, on top it was topped with delicious melted cheese, green peppers and chicken tikka.

It's soooo good! Another branch of Sooo Vegi

The food at Sooo Vegi is healthy and affordable.

I am thrilled there is now a second branch on the corner of Merlin Road.

It is decorated with its signature green theme.

The menu is pretty much the same but they have all day breakfasts and laksa.

The best thing about this branch is the air conditioning and the comfortable environment which will make me return more often.
It's not that I don't like the other branch but the second hand smoke from people smoking nearby makes me sick.

Came here two days in a row, the first day I had the breakfast.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Soup:
The breakfast comes with coffee or Roselle tea but as I don't these drink these I got the Monkey head mushroom soup instead.

Comparing it to the first time I tried it, the taste is much stronger with mushrooms and pulses.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Breakfast:

I got this because I was curious what vegetarian bacon would look like and because I like scrambled eggs.
The bacon was soft and the texture of the imitation fat was quite realistic because it was springy.
It was a nice breakfast as a whole, especially the scrambled eggs because they were slightly runny and tasty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pasta Bolognaise:

I loved the bolognaise sauce because it had a rich tomato taste with lovely pieces of onions in it.

Great chicken to feed hot chicks

Saw this new chicken shop listed on OpenRice so had to check it out because I love chicken and the name sounded Western.
The location was rather odd because there are not many Western restaurants in North Point.
That day I had two restaurants in mind, if this place didn't look good I was going to try Camden Town nearby, the Fish and Chip shop from Sai Kung!!!!

When I got there, the logo and colour theme reminded me of JoJo Indian Cuisine restaurant.

They serve roast chicken, brunches with a great choice of drinks.

The restaurant was casual with smiley chairs.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Quarter roast chicken:

I tried the roast chicken which comes with a choice of lemon sauce, BBQ sauce or Bacon red wine jus.
As I was greedy I asked for lemon sauce and the bbq sauce.
When the chicken arrived, it was on a sizzling metal plate which was quite different to what I was expecting because I was expecting it on a plate.
The chicken was juicy and soft with lots of herbs rubbed on it but you couldn't really taste the herbs.
The sauces came in separate bowls.

Personally I liked the bbq sauce because it was tangy and the taste was quite similar to ketchup with some rosemary in it while the lemon sauce had a nice zesty tone but I did not like the coconutty taste in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

This is definitely a great place for expats to dine.

Fried chicken drumettes from Trigger Dog Family

Trigger Dog Family (North Point)

After dining at Sooo Vegi (vegetarian) next door, I was still hungry!
I went for the fried chicken drumettes because I have always wanted to try their chicken.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
chicken drumettes:

At first I did not know they were all drumettes, when I opened the box I was delighted to see that they were drumettes because I don't like the wing part.
The coating was golden and crispy and not too salty and the chicken was nice and springy.
Usually if you get the hot dog set, they are only $3 as an add on but since I got them a la carte, they cost me $18.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

Sadly, they have stopped the seafood dog, so I could not order it.

The Trigger Dog Family has grown

Trigger Dog Family (North Point)

Since my last visit, this place has been in the limelight.

They have created two more new hotdogs and palmiers.

There is going to be a cake cabinet soon with cakes, macarons and even cocktails.
I am really looking forward to this other hotdog with avocado filling.

Here was what we tried:

Both hotdogs were paired with frankfurters which has a nice soft texture that doesn't distract you when your eating it and the buns were lovely and soft.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Oliver:

Looking like a hotdog covered in cocktail sauce or mentaiko dressing, it is actually a hotdog with seafood on top.
I wasn't sure how they were going to taste together but this has now become my favourite hotdog because of the sauce and seafood.
The sauce is made from tomato, yoghurt and sesame making it slightly Turkish style because the tomato and yoghurt was really appetizing.
As for the seafood filling, it was tasty and not like the normal frozen ones which are rubbery and tasteless.
They were pieces of small mussels and pieces of squid which went really well with the Frankfurter.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crazy dog:

This was a frankfurter topped with pork chili con carne which has a better delicate texture.
It is a tastier version of Wendy which is beef bolognaise (please see previous review).
The spices in this gave it more depth and kick and personally I love chili con carne.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chocolate brownie:

The chocolate brownie was as good as before and not cloyingly sweet.
I loved it warm because it was soft and had a strong cocao taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Palmiers:

I was surprised they made Palmiers.
They were quite nice because the buttery taste and smell was not too overpowering.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Looking forward to the coming hotdog with avocado filling and possible fried chicken!
