Delish Roast beef bahn mi at [越之味 Tasty Vietnam HK]

Randomly went here because of the roast beef banhmi.

I didn't have any expectations because the location being in polam so I was expecting everything to be localized.
They did have some interesting items on the menu like the rolls with liver paste.



Dined in for the roast beef bahnmi and it was pretty good there wasn't a 10% service charge. But then I suppose, it is getting competitive with so many new eateries nearby such as the Taiwanese noodle joint, Marugai udon, laksa joint and this Chinese joint.


When it arrived, it looked promising.
The baguette was not burnt with a lovely golden crispy crust while the middle was soft.

The roast beef was convincing, it was pink and you could see the fibres without any connecting tissues.

I was totally satisfied after taking a bite because everything was good from the baguette to the beef.
Most importantly the pickles were properly pickled and not sweet.

There was a dash of mustard which went well with the beef.
The texture of the beef was really tender that I wouldn't describe it as roast beef but a cross between pastrami without the smokiness and slow cooked beef.

I think the beef tastes better in the banhmi than the pho as the heat will end up changing the texture of the beef.
Will definitely be back and hopefully the beef will be just as good on the next visit

The only thing they could improve is having tissues on the table.

Squid and meat patty @ Ka Lok's kitchen

家樂小廚粥麵茶餐廳 (Tseung Kwan O)

Went to Ka Lok again for Chinese food.

There is now an attractive rack beside the table for condiments.

Squid and meat patty:
The patty was dry and coarse this time.
It was also quite salty.
The colour was not very appetizing because it was slightly pink even though it was cooked.

French crepes now at Ms Penguin

Since my last visit, there is now a French guy serving crepes!!!

Apart from crepes they had various French things on display.
I didnt need to speak to him in Chinese but apparently he can speak Chinese!
His English was quite good for a French guy, he did not have the French accent in his English and he looks Italian in my opinion.

Anyway I tried the Chestnut crepe, usually I do not try chestnut items for desserts because the Chinese ones are really sweet and starchy.

Sweet crepe with chestnut cream:
The crepe was made on the iron galette which was pre buttered to make it non stick.
The crepe was piping hot!
The chestnut filling was slightly sweeter than I imagined and it was also as starchy as the Chinese ones.
But the crepe was quite nice.
The texture of the crepe was quite soft and it was similar to the pancakes made for Pancakes day (British version).

麥菲茶餐廳 Mathy dishes in 2012 versus 2011

The dishes here in general taste good and the Chef has been very creative, however the Chef seems to have changed lately because the dishes have not been so creative.
Some dishes have been repeated on the menu such as the pickled vegetables with pork belly hakga style but not as good as it was a year ago.
Hope the food will taste like it did a year ago because there is a serious competitor nearby.

The 2011 version was much better, the sauce was like gravy and the pickled vegetables were more prominent.

The 2012 version is very watery and it only had one type of pickled vegetables, in 2011 there were two different types.
Althought this is Hakga Style, I have tried the real thing at a Hakga village and it contains wood fungas as well.

Crab with glass noodles - 2011
They offer a lot of crab dishes, the crab is fresh and meat comes off easily.
When the crabs are small, they will give you three.

Oddballs, Oddly shaped fish meat patties @ Redforest

Potato noodles: Not my cup of tea, they were chewy and the texture was like chewy gelatin that do not melt in your mouth.

Fish meat patties These were quite nice, you could taste the fish and there was no grounded fish bones.
