Koli South Croydon: New smash burger and piri piri joint

Another burger joint has popped up in South Croydon called Koli so I had to give it a try.
They specialize in smash burgers and piri piri chicken.
Smash burgers are basically patties that are flattened or smashed by they are being grilled which gives it that lovely crispy edge.
As they have just opened so still in teething stages with the branding, packaging to food.
I got the cheese burger which was quite affordable at 3.99.
You have that lovely crispy edge and you can taste the beef which is not gamey.
The burger box is a bit too small for it though but I am sure they will get bigger boxes to accomodate.
Was hoping to try the lemon and herb chicken because they said the sauce comes from Africa but not available due to unstable supply issues so I will be back.

The Legendary Triple O's by White Spot

I love Triple O's by White Spot, it is one of the places I go for Poutine.

Triple O's by White Spot has been in Hong Kong longer than I have and way before Shake Shack, Five Guys, Butchers Club and has even seen the good and bad times of the burger trend while some competitors like Shakem Buns and Caliburger packed up.

There is something special about Triple Os.

To be honest, I haven't been to Triple Os for a long time but recently I was back for the Vegan burgers.

There are two on the menu.

The veggie burger isn't new but they have another plant based one that uses the Impossible Patty.

Triple Os is one of the first burger chains in Hong Kong to serve a plant based burger while McDonalds, Burger King serve it in other countries.

The Impossible Patty served here is the 2.0 version.

[Veggie Burger]

Perhaps this is the most original veggie burger before the plant based trend came by. The patty is made with vegetables, potato and rice which is simple and filling.

[Impossible Burger]

All I can say is that it was just as good a meat if not better because it didn't have the fatty pieces and gristle. It also has the raw meat colour before being cooked.

The poutine was divine, I just love chips and gravy with a little bit of cheese. I think it was the first time I tried the onion rings and they were spot on with juicy sweet onion in the middle ad crispy coating that wasn't heavy.

For drinks, I had the blueberry milkshake which is a popular pick. It is made with blueberries and icecream hence the natrual taste. Evidently Triple Os is a legend as everything tastes good from the burger to sides and milkshakes.

Definitely coming back but also gutted that I have missed some of their seasonal items such as Surf n Turf, Turkey & Gravy Burger which are captivating.

[YEARS] Plant based gem in SSP

As well as food in general, I love Vegetarian food.
When I found out about this joint, I decided to go and check it out even though there were no pictures on social media yet.
YEARS is located in SSP, the exact spot where NEW ORDER used to be.

Inside, you will find a modern setting and at the far end you will see cartons of OATLY on the shelf.

The current food menu which includes drinks.

Drinks menu:

Clearly the burger was my pick because of the Impossible Patty which came with my favourite iced Earl Grey Tea without any extra charges.

I have had so many Impossible burgers so far which were all good but this one is my favourite because it is simple and not overwhelmed by strong sauces. I got to taste the Impossible patty properly which was paired with delicious cheese, balsamic and arugula leaves which all worked in harmony. The Impossible patty was definitely beefy in taste and texture, it reminded me of eating sweetbread as it was quite velvety yet it had a lovely crispy edge where it got seared. The bun they sourced was a good one as it was soft and pillowly without any sweetness.

The fries were to my liking as they were crispy on the outside and starchy in the middle. Finished with iced Earl Grey which made my day as it had a lovely fragrant aroma that was not artificial and I appreciate how it wasn't sweetened by default.

I look forward to coming back as I'm sure they will have some new creations.

Second Shake Shack opens at Pacific Place!!

The game is on with Shake Shack and Five guys opening a few days after each other.
This is the second branch of Shake Shack in Hong Kong with its first in Central.
I was pleased with my first experience in Central so I didn't mind coming again to Admiralty as it is more accessible being close to the MTR exit.

The festive milkshakes weren't ready yet but I definitely have to come back for it.

On this visit, had the ShackBurger, SmokeShack and Shroom Burger.

The SmokeShack HKD66 really hit the spot as the bacon was crispy and the chopped cherry pepper was punchy and tangy which complimented the beef.

The ShackBurger is more basic but you get to appreciate the beef more.

The Shroom Burger is a another experience because you get a crispy mushroom oozing with decent cheese in the middle.

Will definitely be back for the Holiday Shakes as I love hazelnut and Chocolate peppermint.

I loved the Fish burger @ Burger Bar

As well as beef burgers, some places put effort into other burgers like fish, chicken or Vegetarian burgers.
At Burger Bar, I was truly impressed with the fish burger.
It was a whole fish!!
The coating was nice as it was crispy bread crumb so it was light and crunchy while the sauce was different and fantastic.
It was basil sauce which was very tasty with a hint of cumin.

The other beef burger was good too but the fish just stole the show.

There are gloves on the table which made it mess free and since there are gloves, I truly didn't mind eating with my hands.

Also had the prawns which were a bit over done.

[AMMO x B.Duck Round the World Afternoon Tea]

AMMO - A short form for Asia, Modern, Museum and Original, AMMO is an award-winning, contemporary tapas bar and restaurant located in the stunning heritage site of a former 19th century explosives compound.

As well as explosives, the name AMMO makes me think of ammunition and soldiers in camouflage.

If it wasn't for the [AMMO x B.Duck Round the World Afternoon Tea], I wouldn't have visited this lovely spot hidden at the back of Admiralty.

I knew I was going to like the tea set because it had donuts, scones and burgers.

The adorable B.Duck has floated to AMMO this summer!

From now to 31st Aug, travel around the world with B.Duck at AMMO with sweet & savoury treats that represent the different countries.

Sweet Treats:
Japan - Matcha Tiramisu
Singapore - Sugar Cane Donuts
France - B.Duck Macarons
Korea - Mini Strawberry Ice Cream
England - Scones with Jam and Clotted Cream

Savoury Treats:
United States - Mini USDA Beef Cheese Burgers
China - Spring Rolls with Sweet Chili Sauce

When you arrive, there are some cute B.Duck mugs on table for you to choose when having tea where you also get to choose from the tray of tea forte tea bags.

The tea set was just adorable especially the cute burgers and strawberry icecream so the whole thing was easily instaworthy.

As always, I always eat the savoury items first and evidently I liked the burgers as they were tasty.

In the Sweet selection, I liked the variety as it was all my favourite items such as scones and donuts.

The Sugar Cane donuts were yellow inside with golden jam so they were a little different from English donuts which are white inside.

All the items were not too sweet which was impressive,
It was just fun placing the burger and macaron side by side.

You get to take home the special edition angelic white AMMO x B.Duck floating duck! (first come first served basis while stocks last.)

After having the [AMMO x B.Duck Round the World Afternoon Tea], you can join the hunt and win a [Round the World B.Duck Money Bank] worth $268.
