Nostalgic Paradise dishes at Paradise Classic

Paradise Dynasty is a successful restaurant chain from Singapore serving the finest of northern and southern China cuisine and now they have a new restaurant under their wing called Paradise Classic which serves nostalgic dishes.
At Carnavon Plaza, they are right next to each other!!

I was more than excited to try because of the nostalgic dishes that are slowly fashioned out in the modern era.

Started with the floral elderflower and melon tea which was sweet and refreshing.

The first nostalgic dish was the crouching tiger available in a spicy and non spicy version.
You get to savour the sweetness of seafood in this inimitable pot of crabs, prawns, clams, squid and fish.
The seafood broths brings out the taste of freshest seafood while the thick vermicelli soaks up the flavours of the broth.

Next was the stewed silver pin noodles which came in a huge pot in thick delicious soup that is mixed with egg.

It was hearty and filling, great for the coming winter.
For light bites, had the mashed tofu with seafood which is a must try as they make the tofu in house.

Finished with my favourite spinach cooked with salted egg and preserved egg for a balanced meal with vegetables.

[Kani Kei] Crab feast in Causeway Bay

I love crab but there are not many Japanese crab specialists about. There is one in Wanchai called Kanizen but the set does not offer as much crab as this set.The Klwame crab set costs $1088 for one or $2176 for two which is really good because you can indulge on your own or if you are in groups of 3s or 5s it can be catered for.

Before they begin, they will bring over a tray of crabs to show you which crabs you will be eating.

Started with the assorted appetizer which had cherry tomato stuffed with mozzarella cheese, crab tomalley infused tofu, whelk, duck breast and cucumber with crab tomalley.

Next came the stewed wintermelon topped with truffle and parma ham which was nice and appetizing.

The next course was the crab and sashimi which were all fresh and tasty. I liked the way there were sliced fruit beneath the sashimi which helped to balance the heaviness of the sashimi.

The steamed egg was topped with lots of crab meat and salmon roe. The egg was silky flavoured by the bursting saltiness of the salmon roe.

The next course was the abalone which was soft and the sauce was very sweet.

Now to the star of the show which was the steamed crab.

The crab meat was sweet and juicy and there was so much tomalley there. Next were the grilled crab shells and legs, again more tomalley and this time it was chunky crab meat inside the King Crab legs.

The last course was steamed rice with crab meat mixed with truffle and edamame beans which left me full and satisfied.

For dessert, It was Matcha warabi but I was too full for it.

A salute to the crab specialist

This place is famous for crabs but I never made it because it is better to go in big groups to share and secondly I am not an expert at eating crabs.

The restaurant is big and they have private rooms and karoake as well.

After this visit, I would love to go again because there are lot of crab dishes which you can manage easily without the trouble of deshelling it.
There is more to the menu than fried crab and it was great to see Heekee crab general come up with some creative new and delicious dishes.

Must order items are marked with ***
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
蒜蓉粉絲蒸聖子皇$48/隻:
Steamed razor clams with garlic and glass noodles.

The clams were a bit chewy but I loved the glass noodles on top which are always the best because it absorbs the razor clam sauce and garlic.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
***新菜式:

This dish is new but I loved it because it was crab mousse rolls topped with rich crab roe and crabmeat sauce.
The mousse which had crab was enriched by the crab roe giving it a stong delicious crab taste and there is more crab roe sauce in the tomato!!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
川鹵牛展 $68:

Did not try this.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
***黑松露波菜汁蟹鉗 $68/位:
Crab claw in spinach and truffle soup.

I was really looking forward to this because it was a big chunky deshelled crab claw.
This dish probably didn't exist a few years ago because the ingredients and presentation are quite modern.
The crab was fresh and springy with a strong unami taste while the spinach and truffle complemented it nicely.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
蟹肉燕窩羹 $108/位:
Thick crab soup with bird's nest.

Another bowl of soup with chunky pieces of crab and prized birds nest great for sharing.
The soup was light with lots of crabmeat, egg and minced pork which held to hold the soup together.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
***黃金蟹蓋 $88‏:
Stuffed golden crab shell

The filling in the shell was infused with lots of curry and finely shredded spring onions which was just divine.
Another great dish for people who don't know how to deal with the crabshell.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
喜記正宗避風塘炒蟹 一斤二兩 $360:
Hee Kee Typhoon Shelter style crab

The crab claw was cracked by the restaurant which made it more managable than I expected.
Each bite of crab was sensational flavoured by the salty and peppery spices.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
椒鹽雙拼 $98:
Fried fish and squid

The fried fishes had a delicate crispy coating but the fish inside just melted in your mouth, however the squid was a little over done.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
***招牌將軍令 $68/位:
Hee Kee general order

This was crabmeat patty shaped into a crab claw.
It is an option for people who want to have the Typhoon Shelter crab without the need of deshelling because it was surrounded with the fragrant crispy pieces as the Typhoon shelter crab dish.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
蠔皇扣鮮鮑$68/位:

The abalone was soft with rich oyster sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

The ribs were juicy with a strawberry tang to it.

***蟹粉燴時蔬 $168:

A great dish of greens covered with thick crab roe sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
蟹油炒麵$72:

The noodles were a great carbohydrate filler for those who need to have rice or noodles to fill them up.
If you happen to order the Fried crab earlier with the crispy pieces of garlic and chili, save some for the noodles because they make a great accompaniment with the noodles.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
招牌奶皇流沙包$24/3隻:
Custard bun with molten filling

The custard buns were fluffy and soft with a rich starchy egg yolk filling in the middle without being too sweet.

Go under the bridge for CRAB delights

Eating here was memorable and an invaluable experience as I have never officially had crab from a restaurant that specializes in crab.

While we were there, we filmed this food show called 食得招積.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

We started off with steamed crab in HuaDiao wine.

The steamed egg white was amazing because it was silky and full of wine flavour, while the crab was springy with a fermented wine taste.

Then we had the congee which was loaded with baby oysters, rice and thinly shredded ginger in a delicious sweet fish broth.

To finish off, we had the stir fried noodles in crab oil.

Each strand of noodle was evenly coated with fragrant crab oil balanced by the yellow chives.

Caught by the confusing Ad

Walked past one evening and saw this poster!
It was rather confusing because it seems to imply all you can eat but it is not all you can eat.

As I was a fan of their crab congee I didn't mind going back again for it.

When I went in, I asked them about the confusing promotion and they said it was a GIMMICK because they are located on 127 Wing Lok Street, so they simply did a special offer for the congee at $1+27 ie the congee costs $28 only!!!

Although it was not all you can eat, $28 was a bargain because it normally costs around $5X.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Crab congee:
I had a better experience this time because it was served in a ceramic bowl with a proper metal spoon.
The quality was better too and you could see how much crab was in it because the colour was lovely and vivid.

Not to mention, the taste was amazing, rich in crab essence flavoured by the saltiness of the crab roe with lots of crabmeat in it.
As well as the crab, the freshness of the spring onion and the congee tasted great together.

I wish this promotion would last forever.
