[DALLOYAU Hong Kong] New summer ice cream selection

Summer is here and I was invited to try DALLOYAU's new summer ice cream selection.

There are three new colourful flavours: Rose, Raspberry and tropical Peach & Mango.

Tried all three and personally I like the raspberry because it is sweet and fresh tasting like Yoplait's raspberry yoghurt.

The rose was really fragrant so it all depends if you like rose while the peach and mango I found quite sweet.

Other sweet treats such as Macarons, strawberry mousse cake and the raspberry opera.

Okayama peaches at Cookology

Thanks to Blackhole-mini and the communications team for inviting me to the media gathering to try Okayama white peaches and Muscat grapes.

As well as trying the fruits, we also had the chance to learn and make peach crumble using these Okayama white peaches at Cookology.

These fruits are prized because Okayama Prefecture has a steady climate with a high percentage of sunny days which make it perfect for cultivating fruit.

Okayama Prefecture is also known as the land of fruit.

Okayama white peaches:

There are five types of peaches grown in the Okayama prefecture.

The one we tried today was the yume hakatu (dreamy white peach).
It was soft and extremely juicy, the peach meat is literally like a sponge collapsing into delicious peach juice.

Shine Muscat grapes:
Each grape looked perfect in every way, there was no browning or spots, and each one was plump.
The bunch of grapes were so perfect and flawless that they looked like display grapes.

Making peach crumble and peach frozen yoghurt:
For our convenience, the peach base was already done, the peaches were sliced and put in the bowl.

So all we had to do was make the crumble which was pre-measured for us.

The ingredients for the crumble were surprisingly simple, it was just flour, butter and sugar.

Basically it was mixing it together, until it turned into crumble form.

Then sugar was added, but since the peaches were sweet, I felt that it could have done without sugar.

The frozen yogurt was made by blending cream, natrual plain yoghurt and peeled peaches and freezing it.

These peaches are easy to peel and the skin comes off easily.

Natural yoghurt and cream.

Blending the ingredients.

Then taking it out of the freezer and mixing it again and freezing it.

There was a compressor which made the texture of the yoghurt smoother and not so icy.

The taste of the crumble was delicous, hot mushy peaches with buttery crumble paired with refreshing peach yoghurt.

To try these delicious white peaches, you can now buy them online at Rakuten, or get them from CitySuper from 2nd August - 9th August and 13th-19th of September because in between those dates they have other type of peaches in that range.

Mochified snowy mooncake~! @ Mochi Cream

After reading the review by FoodieWil, I just had to try for myself.
Totally agree with FoodieWil’s comment that it is a Japanese version of ChineseGoGo.

ChineseGoGo is a high-end version of the glutinous sweets with various fillings, and now top class Mochi has appeared.

There are 19 flavours: Apple pie, Chocolate banana, White chocolate, Mango, Peach Yoghurt, Bluebery Yoghurt, Sweet Potato, Darjeeling tea, honey cranberry, Café Au lait, Rum n Raisin, Chocolate, Green Tea, Black Sesame, Green Soybean, Red Sweet Potato and Sakura.

I am not really into Adzuki beans, or the conventional Japanese flavours such as green tea, sweet potatoes etc, so I chose six flavours APPLE PIE, PEACH YOGHURT, DARJEELING TEA, HONEY CRANBERRY, CARAMEL PUDDING, and RUM RAISIN.

I tried the APPLE PIE first, the texture was interesting, just like eating eggshells, like the sugar shells on the mini easter eggs, then oozing with apple sauce with bits of apple in it, and exploding with fluffy light whipped cream.

Then I tried the honey cranberry, also oozing with sweet cranberry liquid, this one contained bean paste, same with the Darjeeling Tea, packed with strong Tea flavour.
The Rum raisin one also surprised me with a strong Rum infusion with the cream.
I didn’t like the Peach Yoghurt one, because the Peach was a bit perfume like, not natural giving an aftertaste, I would assume the same for the blueberry one too.

However the Caramel Pudding was the best along with the Apple pie, it was thick smooth custard filling inside, with a strong bitter caramel syrup in the centre. The brown syrup tasting and looking EXACTLY like the real caramel puddings.

Anyway if your not a fan of Adzuki beans, then Apple pie or Caramel pudding would be the choice, its sweetness is different to the sweetness of the bean paste. Although both are as sweet as each other.
To me the ones with bean paste inside remind me of the Snowy moon cakes during moon cake festival, both full of bean paste. Maybe one day, they will have cheesecake flavours!

Dining under surveilance @ Kulako Japan Concept Food

Food was good, but under constant surveillance by the staff. From the picture you can see they have positioned themselves directly 90 degrees from our table.
Being a food host, I am used to eating in front of people, but not so for others.

Fish liver: I think this is not always available as it wasn’t on the menu last time, but went well with the vinegar sauce.

Baked rice with oysters: This was better than expected, the rice was softer than normal, but full of flavour with pieces of vegetable in it. The rice was topped with six oysters, all very creamy and moist despite being cooked by the oven.

The peach sushi rolls with Sakura shrimp was rather disappointing, the Sakura shrimp coating was more like shrimp crumbs, the ones I had previously, tiny shrimps could be seen coated on the rice.

Environment: There was a strong cigarette smell when we got up there.

Refreshing fruity ice @ Hui Lau Shan

There are two types, one served with red beans and the other served with sugar jelly.
I ordered the sugar jelly one, because most of the elements I liked such as strawberry, peach, sugar jelly, pearls.

It was presented on a bed of fruity ice, with sugar jelly, strawberry slices, peach slices, dragon eye, pearls and another scoop of fruity ice on top.
Overall, it was pleasant, not too sweet.
The pearls let the dessert down as it was hard and chewy.
I was impressed with the strawberries because they were red and ripe.

The texture of the fruity ice was slighty like sorbet, but since it contained hokkaido milk, it was not so moist, but brittle and dry.
It didnt taste that milky but there was hints of dragon eye in it.

Peach yoghurt drink @ Hui Lau Shan

Nice cooler for the summer. Peach yoghurt with mini dumplings at the bottom.
There is also a pineapple version too, and you can choose either crystal jelly or mini dumplings.

The yoghurt does not taste like Yakult or natural yoghurt, but the whole drink tastes a bit like the pomelo mango dessert.
