Big sago pearls in Mathy's Taro and sago dessert

Usually I will frown when Chinese restaurants serve me sweet soup because I find it disgusting and too sweet.

However, this restaurant has never served sweet soup before or any other desserts, but due to the competition around they have started to offer sweet soup.
When they asked me if I wanted any, I initially said No, but then I then I changed my mind because the food here is good in general and they have never served desserts before so I might as well try it.

Taro and sago sweet soup:
When it came, it looked like a bowl of greyish milk, and I poked my spoon in it unwillingly.
To my delight I saw these massive sago pearls which were visually pleasing.
Usually, the sago pearls in these sweet soups are tiny, but these ones are about 5mm in diameter.
The taste of the taro and sago sweet soup was ok so I had a half a bowl which is a record for me.
I usually taste a drop of the sweet soup and leave it because it is too sweet and because I just do not like Hong Kong style sweet soups because I do not like red beans or sweet potatoes.

Last time I came, they did'nt have the combo, so this time i ordered the taro and coconut combo, it was quite pretty two colours together.

The staff and service was still as good as last time, I shall be back for more when I come to TST again.

Baked Sago and Taro Pudding @ 富臨酒家

Got the baked sago and taro pudding, it was presented in a tin foil cup, the appearance reminded me of a portugese tart, the golden yellow and oven crisp brown bits at the top.

The taro puree was a layer in between the sago custard.

The sago custard wasnt that sweet, but the taro was, and had a very velvety texture.

But overall if it wasnt that sweet, it would of tasted good.

Beef rendang @ Katong

After trying numerous Singapore cuisines in HK, this is the best so far.

I used to get Laksa from here nearly thrice a week, but once the Laksa was super spicy, so I got deterred from it.

I decided to give it another go, and the Laksa was back to normal, not that spicy.

Ordered Laksa with beef Rendang, the Laksa tasted as good as usual, and the beef rendang was authentic according to my SG friend.

The drinks were perfect too, the barley water was not too sweet, and had a hint of pandan, the texture of the barley water was slightly thick.
The lime soda was literally lime + soda, a can soda with wedges of lime which tasted quite refreshing.

Finally the dessert was mango coconut sago, and as a Anti-Asian dessert person, I really liked it, it was pieces of mango on top of Coconut paste and sago, which is much more natural than mango pudding. The coconut paste was real coconut instead of the processed coconut cream which is a bit fake, and the syrup on top made the whole thing sweet naturally rather than pre-mixed.

Translucent seeds @ chung's dessert

Not quite sure what these transparent seeds are, but they remind me of unhatched tadpole eggs.
