Mäckish sandwiches at Rye House

Went to the Nordic Innovation House opening a few days ago. After the opening, there was food served on the top floor by the Mäckish girls Olga and Kegen. I was gutted I didn't try the moose Mäckish but then I discovered they were doing a two day pop up at Rye House so I decided to go as I haven't been to Rye House either.

Rye House serves Nordic food but I only tried the sandwiches that day as it was only a two day event.
I will come back for the egg pie and other Nordic goodies.

They had drinks and sauces imported from Finland and Sweden.

Sauces:

Here were the open faced sandwiches that I had where I ate like there was no tomorrow as this was my first and last time trying it.
==========
- Skagen Mäckish (Left)-

Skagen is a Swedish treasure, a cream based on mayo and shrimps.  Freshened up with horseradish, dill & lemon zest.  Served on rye bread with salad topped with roe, red onion and lemon.
This was sensational as it was just like eating prawn and mayonnaise taken to the next level with red onions and dill.
The lemon gives it a refreshing balance so that the mayonnaise doesn't get too heavy.

==========
- Renskavs Mäckish (right) -
“Renskav” is a classic Swedish beloved dish but this time with a twist.  The creamy reindeer meat is combined with sour lingonberries, parsley and pickled chanterelles.
It was definitely a festive Mäckish with red lingonberries, parsleys and pickled saukeraut to compliment the creamy reindeer meat!!!
It tasted like lean ostrich meat and there is no gaminess.
Sorry Santa, I ate your reindeers.
==========
- Vegan Super Beautiful -
A colourful and sweet hummus combined with steamed mini asparagus and beetroot sprouts.  Topped with black and white sesame seeds.
Hummus never fails because I love cumin and pureed textures.

==========
Can't wait to come back and try the stews and everything else.

Last but not least were the drinking straws!!
These are the stalks of Rye Grass that are natrual and hollow which allows you to sip your drinks.
It makes perfect sense to use these as horses are fed hay and straw!

[Snow Sandwich] A cool corner in the midst of summer

I was walking to Yau Ma Tei in the sweltering heat when I noticed this bright blue shop so took a look.
It was out of place but stood out because of the bold design and fonts.

The name of the joint cooled me down slightly.

When I got nearer, I realized it was a sandwich joint and they had some homemade icecreams.
As it was stifling hot, I decided to get the avocado icecream since it was a rare flavour.

It was a bit icy but perfect on a hot day with a nice avocado flavour and real bits of avocado it it.

Guacamole, chicken and egg sandwich at A-1 Bakery (Lok Fu)

They had a nice selection of sandwiches.

There was a choice of: The club, pastrami, smoked salmon, guacamole and chicken.

I had my eyes on the salmon and the guacamole so in the end I got the guacamole.

Guacamole, chicken and egg sandwich:

There was quite alot of filling in the sandwich but it was not even because the edges were empty.
Anyway, the sandwich was really good because the avocado was really creamy, and it was filled with egg and chicken as well which made it filling.
The guacamole element was a bit disappointing because there was no guacamole at all, it was just plain avocado which you can't really call guacamole!
The charcoal walnut bread was nice and nutty.

Delicious toasted hot sandwiches at Pret A Manger

Pret A Manger (Central)

Had a craving for bread again so went to Pret for something simple but delicious.

As I have already tried their wraps and salads, I went for the hot sandwiches which are located in the sandwich section in the fridge.

There were two sandwiches which were tempting:

Ham & English Cheddar Hot Sandwich

or

New York Deli

In the end I got the New York deli because it had cheese and sauerkraut in it.

New York Deli:

The New York Deli had emmental, honey mustard mayo, pastrami and sauerkraut.
It was heated after I paid for it.
When I collected my toasted sandwich, it was very hot and the smell of multigrain bread was so nice.
The delicious melted cheese and pastrami were complemented nicely by the sharp sauerkraut in between the crispy soft slices of multigrain bread.

Egg and mayonnaise sandwich @ La Rose Noire Bakery

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Egg and mayonnaise sandwich:
My favourite simple toasted sandwich which contains egg and tomato.
There was lots of mayonnaise in it and the egg was lovely and creamy.
The egg yolk was hard boiled and mushed so it mixed nicely with the mayonnaise giving a lovely starchy texture, while the tomato was refreshing.
Although this sandwich was delicious I felt thirsty after eating it.

Taste the real rainbow with the rainbow club

Mrs B's Bakery is famous for their artisan cakes and the Rainbow connection.

There is now a savory rainbow in the form of a sandwich.
I found out about it when I walked past the branch in Tai Hang so decided to go in for it, however they only serve this at Pacific place.
Anyway I was at Pacific place recently so I went in for the Rainbow club sandwich.
The RAINBOW club consists of French Ham, Cheese, Omelette, Avocado, roasted chicken and salads in between layers of Spinach, beetroot, bamboo charcoal and Saffron handmade artisan breads.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
RAINBOW club:
When it came, the sandwich was loaded with fillings from cheese, avocado, omelette as stated on the menu, it even came with gherkins and bacon which were not listed.
I was a bit disappointed that the bread was quite thin because I would have preferred thicker slices and less filling.
Although all the fillings were delicious I felt that there was too much filling.
The omelette was really nice and fluffy.
I was glad that the bread was properly savoury or it would have been tragic having sweet bread with savory fillings.
They also used proper Western mayonnaise too which was impressive and did not ruin the taste of the sandwich.
I tasted each of the layers of bread separately but the flavours were not that strong.
The layers of bread in the middle of the sandwich were slightly soggy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Salt & Vinegar Crisps:
The side of crisps that came with it delighted me because I assumed they would be ordinary crisps but they were my favourite vinegar crisps and not Hong Kong style flavours.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Anyway I hope to try the Rainbow Connection one day.
