[Grill ขุนทอง] Lan Kwai Fong is on fire

Discovered this shop in the summer and it visually made you feel like the street was on fire standing close to it because they have a digital burning fire on the LCD panel.

Decided to try it now because the weather was cooler.
I would have had the dry aged steak because I love dry aged meats but it was sold out.

Anyway, settled for skewers and tried the chicken, pork, squid, sausage and asparagus.
The sauces were a bit confusing just like silverthoughts said because for chicken and pork they are paired with satay sauce so you can't choose.
Most of the skewers I had were paired with satay sauce which gave it a nice peanut taste and the beef was most impressive because it was lean and tender.

For drinks I had the lime soda which tasted natrual and not sweetened.

This place is going to popular with partygoers and expats because it looks clean and simple.
They also have rice as well.

Taking chances with Satay city

Satay City (Wan Chai)

The food at this place can be fifty/fifty!

Sometimes it is good, sometimes it can be bad.

On this visit it was bad!

There was only one improvement, the sauces did not spill out from the containers this time!

Fried Vietnamese sausage with white curry sauce:
The Vietnamese sausage looked more like a fish cake but the main problem was that the frying oil was rancid and the taste of the sausage was disgusting!

The white curry sauce tasted ok, there was a strong grounded ginger taste in it, but it was made with quite a lot of lard, therefore quite fattening.

Italian style grilled skewers @ Saizeriya

Tried the new skewers here which reminded me of the satays served with peanut sauce because the ones here were also served in peanut sauce.
The satays come in fours or eights.

Although it was Italian style I felt that it was quite Malaysian because of the satay sauce but only Italianised because of the onion sauce.
On the menu, you can see part of the name has been tippexed out, on closer inspection it looks like the word chicken has been tippexed out.

When I ordered, I asked what meat it was because it does not say on the menu and it turns out to be pork so I ordered four skewers only, had it been chicken I would have ordered eight.

Apart from me, I found other people asking whether it was chicken and getting disappointed when they found out it was pork.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Italian style grilled stick
The pork itself was relatively moist but some pieces came with fat which I thought were onion because it was white.

The two sauces that came with it were sour onions in oil and satay sauce.
The satay sauce tasted the better of the two.

The satay sticks looked like if they were reused because of the blackness of the skewers, I doubt they could get that black in one grilling without the meat being more grilled than the sticks!!

Malaysian Egg rolls @ Sisters Kitchen

After seeing the photos of the egg rolls on OpenRice, I found them quite appealing so I bought some to try. I have not tried these before nor do I know what they are.
I thought they were sweet pancakes at first with chocolate sauce drizzled over it according to the photos posted on OpenRice.

Anyway, got some egg rolls and the Buk Kut Teh soup.

They also had CHICK kut Teh soup which sounds cute because it is chicken instead of pork!
I wonder if they have it in Malaysia because there are lots of religions there that can not eat pork. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Popiah Egg rolls:
They looked quite different from the rolls sold two months ago, they did not have any sauce on it. (Left top corner of this picture)
I asked if there was meant to be any sauce so they gave me some vinegar which looks nothing like the sauce used before because the sauce on the picture is thick. Inside the rolls were mostly white carrots, a few shreds of cucumber and some crushed peanuts.
The roll was sweetish with some Satay sauce taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Buk Kut Teh soup:
The soup tasted really nice but there was too much oil on top.
The herb taste was really strong especially the wolfberries.
In the soup there were button mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, tofu puffs, beancurds and a piece of pork ribs.

Chinese fried treasures @ 大家姐 chez a grande soeur

Everytime I go past this snack bar, it is always full of people.

So I finally tried it and got hooked on their fried snacks.
They serve good quality fish siumai, not too soft and not too oversteamed.

Their fried treasures are even better, big tofu stuffed with fish patty, the fried fish balls are also good, quite big too.
The chicken satay is also good too, sweet peanut sauce.

Sparkling clean cutlery @ 筷子記 Chopsticks

This was one of my priorities to try out, noodles in sauce.

Went here on a sunday afternoon to avoid the crowd, and ordered instant noodles with satay sauce, and two other snacks to go with it: fried tofu skin and fish rolls with abalone filling. Also ordered two more snacks to go with it, spicy egg and beancurd fish roll.

The spicy egg turned out to be fried egg with curry powder, and the crunchy beancurd skin with fish meat was crispy and tasty.
The noodle was my favourite too, with lots of satay sauce, but next time I think thin noodles would taste better, as the instant noodles have a slight sweet taste to it.

When I was served by drink, I was amazed at the plastic glass cup, it was so clean it looked like brand new, the sides of the glass was shiny, and it was so clean, that droplets could form on the side of the glass shown on the picture.

Even their chopsticks were clean, there was no stickyness on the chopsticks like the other cafes, they were so clean, I took the other chopsticks out to examine, and all of them were just as clean as each other and shiny too!

On leaving the restaurant, I obtained their take-away menu, and even the menu was printed on good quality laminated card, unlike the other single sided menus.
