Savoury soybean soup

This restaurant is quite good for quick Shanghainese snacks such as tofu, soymilk, rice with spare ribs etc.
However it is easily forgotten because it is located on a back street of some unpopular mall and the restaurant itself is quite grubby.

Anyway here was what I had:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Soymilk:

Lightly sweetened soymilk with a mild soybean taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Savoury soymilk:

This was item that I came for and it did not let me down.
There were generous amounts of tiny dried shrimps, preserved vegetables (jaa-choi), spring onions and fried dough sticks in the soymilk.
It reminded me of Western soup because it was thick and wholesome yet tasty because of all the tasty elements especially the preserved vegetables and fried dough sticks.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fried tofu:

The tofu blocks were fried just right with a golden colour.
Inside it was soft and silky which tasted great with the chili bean sauce condiment on the table.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sweet soymilk with dumplings:

I was disappointed with the dumplings because they used to taste really good.
The dumplings were too soft this time with holes and the fillings came out.

Soy Bean Pontikege @ Das Gute

Usually the Pontikeges I have seen come in flavours such as black sesame, green tea, cheese, cranberry or original.

This one was soy bean so thats why I got it.

The taste was quite interesting as well as the soy bean taste, it had slightly starchy pieces of soy bean in it.
It was slightly sweet as well because it was not savory.

Shrimp roe beancurd roll @ 陳意齋

Finally found this shop and bought their famous beancurd rolls with shrimp roe.

It was slightly different to how I imagined it to be.
I thought the beancurd roll would be soft, but it turned out to be quite chewy and hard.

While I was eating it, I didnt see much prawn roe until I got to the end.

When I was halfway through it, there was so much prawn roe rolled in the centre, shame I didnt take a picture.
The prawn roe basically tasted like the dried ones sprinkled on noodles and very fishy too.

Chinese macaroni in soup @ Wah Hong Restaurant

Very similar to the Tsui Wah restaurant, food and interior, but this place is nicer, it even has a private room walled by glass, so you can get some peace and quiet without being out of sight from the waiters.

Got the instant noodles, macaroni, and beancurd sheets in soup.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Macaroni:The macaroni was slightly too mushy and floury.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Beancurd sheets in soup:The beancurd sheets were nice and soft, however they tasted weird.
It was so strong of soy beans, it actually tasted like Vitasoy milk.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Instant noodles:
The noodles actually absorbed the broth so it has flavour which was surprising.

A straw that brought excitement & dissappointment @ Starbucks

drinking straw? liquid cake inside?
drinking straw? liquid cake inside?

I would not have noticed the soy strawberry cheesecake if it had not had a green straw stuck in it.

I was excited thinking the cake could be liquid filled or drinkable at the bottom, otherwise what is the purpose of the straw? decoration purposes only?

To my dissappointing the cake was just solid.
The top of the cake which looked like whipped cream was meringue!
So basically it was sponge covered with soy cheese.

As for the taste, it just tasted like a normal cheesecake, the taste of soy couldnt be tasted at all.
The cake was not sweet at all which was good, but the sweetness was compensated by the merigue topping.
