[The Spaghetti House] New Ocean Bounty menu

The Spaghetti House at Wanchai is a good place for dinner during the weekdays because all the people working in that area have deserted the place.
There was a new summery Ocean Bounty menu launched for summer.
They even had sea cucumber on the menu paired with salad but I was immediately attracted to the squid ink ravioli filled with spinach and scallops that are made freshly everyday.

It was a very hot day so had the macchiato with haagan dazs vanilla icecream topped with a square cube of frozen red bean puree recommended by the manager.
Definitely a photogenic drink with a strong matcha bitterness complimented by the red beans at the bottom.

The other drink Strawberry wonderland was just simply stunning with the sexy red strawberry floating on ice.

Started with the creamy asparagus soup with scallops which is a good pairing of asparagus and scallops because both are delicate in flavour.

The garlic bread was perfectly toasted and buttered, it was crispy with a slight soft centre saturated with garlic butter.

The mussels came in a rich tomato sauce which made every mussel tasty while the sauce was great for dipping the garlic bread.

Now to the star of the show, the squid ink ravioli filled with spinach and scallops were big while the ravioli pasta was soft and hung the lobster sauce well.

Blended strawberry & apple juice @ Mr Fruit

Mr Fruit (San Po Kong)

During the winter, this Juice bar serves hot Chinese soup.

The logo and decor is quite attractive with white fonts and sliced fruits that represent the DOTS.

Ordered the Freshly blended Strawberry and apple juice.

They tried to recommend the Asian Pear and strawberry but I do not like Asian pears so I stuck to my choice.

Apple and strawberry juice:

The colour of this blended juice was quite nice, it was redder than my expectation.
They CLAIM that it is unsweetened but you can actually taste syrup in it.
Despite the fact they claim it is unsweetened, they still put a tiny amount so that it does not taste so sour in the bid that the customers will come back.
Overall the taste was quite nice but I did not like the artificial sweetness.

Next time I will probably try the blueberry and apple or another combination.

Strawberry cake at McCafe

McCafe headquarters at North Point
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Strawberry cake:

Out of all the cakes I have seen at McCafe, this must have been the simplest cake with just cream, sponge cake, strawberry jam and garnished with half a strawberry on top.

The taste of this one was quite nice, it was soft sponge with cream and a hint of strawberry from the jam filling in the middle.

This cake is nice and simple for the afternoon with a cup of tea.

Trainer or Trainee?:
When I ordered, the guy in the black shirt was being trained and I gave him a difficult task while he was on training because I wanted the outermost cake because the strawberry was more ripe.
He was instructed to take the whole plate of cakes out because he was not sure how to get it.
It was then that I noticed his badge said "Trainer" when it should have been "Trainee".

Food studio and McDonalds employment centre:
After eating the cake, I was on my way out when I noticed that their Food studio and McD's recruitment centre are located here.

Strawberries and cream day dream frappuccino

Soy Strawberries and cream frappuccino

Strawberries and cream are always good together especially during the Wimbledon season.
The drink was lovely and creamy and the strawberry syrup that they used was quite nice and did not taste fake.

Before drinking it I would advise to stir the drink with the straw so that when you drink it the taste of strawberry and cream will be consistent.
Although it is made with soy milk i could not taste it, but it definately tastes better than the strawberry soy cheesecake served at Starbucks before.

Heavy dessert afternoon @ BerryGood

I had a photo shoot in Kwai Hing, so I thought I’d try Best Berry after trying Berrygood last time.
Before going, I had an expectation the yoghurt would be similar to BerryGood.

When I got there, the choice of toppings was less than Berry good, but there were more cake and some lunch sets.
In busy Kwai Hing, this café on the isolated corner of the mall is a good place to chat or sit for a while.
However the tables are not big enough, a lot of people were combining tables to make the table space bigger for all the desserts and cakes.

We ordered 3 sets:
Set 1: cheesecake and coffee.
Set 2: Original yoghurt cake, Yoghurt with blueberry sauce, and Yoghurt shake (berry flavour)
Set 3: Strawberry yoghurt cake, Yoghurt with a choice of three toppings, and coffee.

The cheesecake is just an ordinary cheesecake, but the original yoghurt cake was good, a big piece square cake, a thin layer of yoghurt cream on top of the cake, if there was more yoghurt cream in proportion to cake it would taste better, as the cake was too sweet.
As for the strawberry yoghurt cake, it tasted ok, enough yoghurt in proportion to the cake, but the size was smaller compared to the original one. The yoghurt is slightly too sweet.

The drinks were a bit sweet, and I think the set was a bit too heavy, too sickly.
Overall I think I prefer Berry Good, a much lighter option.

Strawberry fool @ Pret A Manger

Everytime I get food from here, I have my favourites, the strawberry fool, a thick and light yoghurt with chunks of strawberry and rhubarb in it. Then the sandwiches are also good, but this time I had a wrap.

I had the California crayfish wrap, filled wasabi mayonnaise, lemon juice, rocket lettices and crayfish, and in between the wrap, there was a piece of laver too, so it made it a bit like sushi.

Lastly I had chili con carne soup, not very spicy, but tasted how it should be.

Strawberry frappe and Strawberry iced tea @ McCafe

Tried both the strawberry frappe and the iced tea, both mixed with strawberry puree/syrup, it contained bits of strawberry seeds.

Strawberry frappe just tasted syrupy and very sweet, very cold due to the crushed iced.

I thought the strawberry tea was much nicer, frothy foam made from the cocktail shaker.
The sweetness of the strawberry complemented the delicate tea.

Japanese rolled pancakes @ Mazazu crepes

Thanks to Felicityli, found out about this little pancake joint, so tried the chocolate banana one and blueberry cheesecake one.

It is slightly different to the western pancakes that are eaten on a plate, these are rolled up like the Japanese sushi hand rolls.

The cream inside the pancakes were a bit thick and sticky like, so the chocolate banana one turned out to be sickly, whereas the blueberry one was much fruitier and light.

It was slightly messy to eat, as the top was topped with lots of cream, sauce and filling, but tastes OK, especially the blueberry one.

The only drawback is that the stools are very high, so if you’re wearing a mini skirt, it is a bit troublesome.

Strawberry coffee @ Caffe Pascucci

Anyway ordered an expresso with coffee cream, and expresso with yoghurt and strawberry.
Basically the fruity coffee was like thick yoghurt ice-cream with tartness.
I really liked it as only 10% was coffee.

Refreshing fruity ice @ Hui Lau Shan

There are two types, one served with red beans and the other served with sugar jelly.
I ordered the sugar jelly one, because most of the elements I liked such as strawberry, peach, sugar jelly, pearls.

It was presented on a bed of fruity ice, with sugar jelly, strawberry slices, peach slices, dragon eye, pearls and another scoop of fruity ice on top.
Overall, it was pleasant, not too sweet.
The pearls let the dessert down as it was hard and chewy.
I was impressed with the strawberries because they were red and ripe.

The texture of the fruity ice was slighty like sorbet, but since it contained hokkaido milk, it was not so moist, but brittle and dry.
It didnt taste that milky but there was hints of dragon eye in it.
