Chinese pina colada @ Hui Lau Shan

These days I am beginning to like huilaushan, I have been trying mango free products.
(Mango is a popular in hk, yes i know, but i hate the taste of mango)

This time I got the Golden pineapple with crystal jelly to go with my dumplings from the new four seas dragon.

The layers of the drink was quite pretty, clear jelly at the bottom ( crystal jelly), layered by clear yellow, then coconut milk on top with some pineapple pieces.

After mixing the layers, I found notes of vanilla, then sweetness of pineapple and the crystal jelly.
Overall it was a bit like Pina Colada.

Althought HLS claims to be healthy, yes I do agree fruit is healthy, but sometimes I think too much sugar is not healthy.
I agree sugar should be added, but for natrually sweet fruits such as mango and banana there is no need, infact this is why i like smoothies, as the banana is a good natural sweetener to balance out the sourness of the berries.,

But anyway, I requesteds for less sugar in my pineapple drink, it was fairly sweet, so I would hate to imagine the the sweetness of normal one!!

That orange looks real @ Loving Hut

Really cool, there a branch in Brighton!

Anyway, this was my third visit. On my first I wrote a long good review, the second I did not write, the third time the standard had evidently dropped.

The last time I had the fatty pork with pickled vegetables it was topped with so much sauce, this time there was no much and it was very dry, I had to ask for more sauce.
The inmitation pork had an off taste too.

As for the dessert, had the orange which was quite interesting, it was made up of orange and jelly and at the asme time it had the same texture of a real orange. The orange peel was real though.

I think this was made by cutting of the top of the real orange and scooping out the contents and putting the jelly liquid inside and when it turned into jelly, it was cut into wedges as if it were a real orange.

Mini Egg custard mooncakes! @ 半島 Boutique

Got the mini moon cakes from Peninsula boutique, eight cute moon cakes in a box, two layers of four.

The pastry was very buttery, and when the packet was opened, you could smell the butter from the pastry.
The pastry was about 4mm thick, and tasted like the Taiwanese pineapple roll pastry, but softer.

The egg custard in the middles was warm orange in colour, and the texture was dense like cheesecake.
It was not too sweet, with full creaminess of the custard.

Laksa and Prawn noodles @ 馬拉媽媽 Malaymama

Came here for afternoon tea, so ordered their Laksa and Noodles in Soy sauce, the portion of the noodles in soy sauce was quite small, which was good in a way because I was still hungry, so ordered the prawn noodles as well!!!

Noodles in Soy sauce with chicken and roast pork:
the noodles tasted like noodles at on lei i previously tried
http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/commentdetail.htm?commentid=1994966
and the shredded chicken was tender and juicy, and wasnt dry or tasteless or had an overnight odour like some places.
the roast pork was ok.
the soup that came with the noodles was natural, no msg added.

Laksa:not that spicy, the soup wasnt that strong, Katong still rates the FIRST!!!
anyway the vermicelli was good!! they are the thread like vermicelli, same at Katong.
also the soup didnt have MSG.

Prawn noodles:Tasted relatively good, as good at the prawn noodle shop in wanchai, but in a different way.
http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/commentdetail.htm?commentid=1943536
The prawn noodles here tasted good, because the vermicelli was thin, so could take in the flavour of the soup, however the prawn soup at wanchai tastes stronger, but the noodles there arent good.

Salmon vol-au-vent with BoneS!! @ Star of Canton

Got my usual weekly dimsum, actually I hadnt been here for two weeks, there were so many people queueing up, so I ate elsewhere.

This time there was new stuff, so ordered the chicken feet in abalone sauce, salmon vol-au-vents, chicken pot with won tons, and the usual prawn dumplings etc.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Chicken in abalone sauce:big bowl with chicken feet and lots and lots of peanuts, let alone a whole bowl of sauce.
So much sauce was left over after the chicken feet were gone, also the chicken feet were nice and soft.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

chicken pot with wontons:literally a bowl of chicken soup with wontons!!

Salmon vol-au-vents:
Lucky they were piping hot, or else I would have got spiked by the long rigid thick fish bone ( see picture ).
I really was not expecting a fish bones!!!
Tasted ok, except the pastry was not well baked, the base was still hard and not risen properly.

Bones!!
Fish bones

Instant Jasmine milk tea @ 英記茶莊 Ying Kee Tea House

Previously saw their Jasmine milk tea featured in magazines, however they were sold out when I went to buy them, today they were in stock so got a pack, it was on promotion as buy one get one free, so got 2 packs, each with 2 sachets.

Basically it is jasmine tea with milk, sugar is already mixed in, hence no sugar needs to be added.

It is not actually their house product, but distributed by them, but the sachet has their logo printed on it.

The taste just tastes like the taiwanese milk teas, but hot version.

Five star salesy waitor @ 五星餐廳 Five Stars Restaurant

Usually when I walk, chinese cafe restaurants NEVER catch my eye, and I will 99% whiz past them, only today because it was raining, and stuck behind a bunch of zombies, my curious eye wandered down to their daily lunch sets.

I saw the beef steak with peach and duck breast, so ordered that, and bittermelon with pork.

The waitor at the front was very chatty, infact you could say a chatterbox, he boasted the soup had no msg and boiled for over 10 hours.
Anyway within our wait, we were already subconsiously hearing stuff from him, and then he reckons he usually sees us walk across on the opposite street.

Finally got our food, I was just curious to see if is was 5 star quality like their name.
Well first of all, was only given two pairs of chopsticks and one meal spoon.

Anyway since the chinese spoons are useless to me, it didnt bother me, so I got used my own normal spoon, anyway the peach sauce was quite good, the onions were crunchy but sweet, fair amount of sliced button mushrooms, peaches, and pineapple.
Then eating the beef was a bit tricky. I think my use of chopsticks is rather handicapped, so I got out my knives and forks to finish it!! The duck breast was ok, slightly fat.
The only thing I didnt like was the diced carrots, they were rock hard!

The bittermelon was ok, nice and soft, and fully flavoured.

The soup contained no MSG as the waitor stated, and because it contained the dried octopus, it is able to get the saltiness from there.
