[Review] 2 Course lunches at Belgos for £9.95

Belgos opened it's first restaurant in 1992 on Chalk Farm Road specializing in Belgian mussels and beer.
Now there are more branches including Covent Garden.

About two decades ago, they had the 'beat the clock' offer (where you pay the price of the time shown on your food order) and an express lunch set menu offered.

Now they are doing a two course lunch for £9.95 which is probably the right move with 7 dials market nearby.
Got there around 12 for lunch but the lunch menu was not available to us until we inquired about it.
As there were three of us, we ordered one of each appetizer choice.
Moules Vol au vent:
Mushroom Vol au vent:
Chicken wings:
For the mains, ordered the two different mussels and a salad.
Personally I would also recommend the rotisserie chicken because it is a signature dish as well as mussels.

Moules Garlic and herb:
Moules Mariniere:
Barley Salad:
Mongozo coconut beer:
Belu Sparkling Water:
Decor at Belgo Centraal:

Overall, we were all impressed with the lunch and the mussels were fresh and delicious.

Dined here ages ago for dinner.
The name Tong Tong Town reminds me of Social palace so did the dishes but then these days modern Chinese food all revolves around the same things like being colourful, instaworthy etc.

For the mains, had the fish maw stirred noodles which were quite nice but the noodles had a touch of alkaline in them.
The bamboo pith in pumpkin sauce was a bit grassy because of the pea shoots and overall quite sweet.
The vegetable dish was colourful and healthy with slimy fresh purple mountain yam and black fungus.
For dessert, finished with the cherry mousse cake which tasted weird as there was some ginger in it.
Also had the piggy which is just the usual Chinese pastry.

Ruby Chocolate suspicions confirmed

At the beginning of the year, had the best pink chocolate drink from here.Decided to revisit for some more pink hot chocolate.
It was a different person there that day so asked if it was ruby chocolate that was used and it was.
Ruby chocolate is the fourth chocolate following white, milk and dark introduced in 2017 by Barry Callebaut.
The hot ruby chocolate drink is made by melting the ruby chocolate pellets and mixing with milk.
It was my lucky day as I got to try the melted Ruby callets which were sugary sweet with a note of raspberry.
The actual ruby hot chocolate drink is sweet and dreamy almost like drinking raspberry hot chocolate so I definitely recommend it.

[Review] Sainsbury Cafe in Newhaven Harbour

My friends wanted lunch so decided to go to Sainsbury's Cafe instead of McDs or KFC.
I was really excited while I was queuing as they have Christmas roast turkey dinner, hot turkey baguette as well as the usual items.

To my disappointment, none of that was available except for Ham, egg and chips, lasagna, tikka and macaroni cheese which was written on a piece of paper.

Since we were all there, I ordered the mac n cheese which they said would take half an hour so we ended up only having tea.

Overall very disappointed because they only had 4 staff that day.
I don't know when I will even get another chance to go to Sainsbury's Cafe because not every branch has the Christmas dinner and I don't drive!!

[Review] Perola Do Atlantico Snack Bar in Eastbourne

Perola Do Atlantico Snack Bar is located on Cavendish Place where the street used to thrive in the 1970s.
Decided to try it after going to Cavendish bakery.

I hadn't a clue what they served so just went anyway.
Upon entering I realized it was Portuguese and specifically from a town Madeira which makes sense as a few of my Eastbourne school friends are from Madeira.

The menu is in Portuguese so I had difficulty trying to suss out what to eat so just had tea and a Portuguese tart.

In the cabinet were other delicious treats such as coxinha de frango etc.

I never thought I would be having a Portuguese tart but the one here was so damn good compared to the oily crap in Hong Kong which are probably Hongkongized.
The one here served cold had a lovely thick custard filling with a sweetness that went well with the tea.

Definitely coming back for soup.
