Chicken Rice at Biters

Biter's is another shop that does chicken rice so went in to try.
It is on the pricey side compared to other chicken joints but the decor is much nicer.
Anyway, the rice, chicken and sauce is the same as the other place I go to but the rice was too spicy for me.

Morley's x Heinz fried chicken sauce

Basically it was sweet with strong onion notes and fiery chilli.
On a side note fried chicken shops are everywhere especially in East London so competition is fierce.
Morley's is one of those well known ones or with good pr since they got to collab with Heinz last year at The Standard.

GDK's new waffle bread sides: Sweet or Savoury (German Doner Kitchen)

There are two new sides at GDK, the Cheesy Garlic Waffle and the Chocolate Waffle Bread £2.99.
Anyway, tried both.
The waffle bread is really nice, I loved the crisp light texture.
For the cheesy garlic one, it was quite nice but the garlic sauce got a bit sickly and the sweet one was nice but it was a bit boring.

Fish and chips at Maria's Fish Bar, Hoxton

Bloody delicious fish and chips.
I felt like having fish and chips so had two places in mind in that area.
The chips at Maria's looked more to my liking so went there.
It was a small shop in Hoxton which used to be Aron's or something like that.
Both fish and chips were made to order which was reassuring.
The chips did not disappoint, soft and silky inside and the fish batter was light and crisp like tempura.
What made it memorable was their home made chilli sauce which took me back to the home made chilli sauce found at fried chicken shops in Mile End that have sadly closed.
The chilli sauce was so good that I wasn't shy with it, it wasn't fiery but it was a bit like salsa.
There was a crunch which did not come from the onions but to my surprise it was CARROTS which you can not taste.
I hate carrots but I could not taste it here and the sauce was just comforting and it was good that it was not salty so it went with with fish and chips that have obviously been showered with salt and vinegar.
The salt that they use here are the sphere ones.
Anyway, will definitely return but for the tea because it was a bit milky and had some residue in it.

New Brazilian restaurant in South Croydon

A new Brazilian restaurant just popped up in South Croydon, looking vibrant and lively so I decided to go and check out the food.
It has the usual suspects like feijoada, steaks, croquettes etc.
Since I have already tried croquettes, feijoada at other places, I ordered the coração acebolado (stir fried chicken hearts) with some rice and feijao carioca (beans).
When, the food arrived, I thought I saw a huge bowl of butter beans which turns out to be the chickens hearts.
It's not that I didn't know they were chicken hearts but I did not expect that much in a starter!
The amount of chicken hearts in there could have been a whole battery of chickens.
Visually you could could see like 30 and there are more beneath so imagine how many chickens for this dish as obviously you only get one heart per chicken.
Anyway, although these were probably frozen hearts, they actually tasted quite nice, it was sort of metallic with a chew.
I liked the way it was not overly seasoned so you can appreciate how they taste.
The sides were good for complimenting and I like the way you are given the sauces etc like the mayo, ketchup avocado etc.
Overall, I was really impressed with this visit and will probably go back for the salt cod stew.
The waitress was really helpful especially on the food because most staff just read from the menu when you ask what the dish is.

Build your own cheese box by Grape & Fig

Build your own cheese box by Grape & Fig.
I love cheese especially with nuts, berries, chutneys and all that.
Enter Grape & Fig, a bar where you can build your own cheese box for £12.50.
The cheese and complementing range is impressive so what's not to like especially when you get to choose most of it.
First, you choose three cheeses, then the condiments/relish.
There are cheese samples which help you decide.
I was going to choose the honey because I saw a honeycomb chunk featured on their instagram but it didn't seem to be there so I got the mustard.
The fresh cherry wasn't seen either so it is probably seasonal.
All their condiments are from Tiptree.
Basically you progress from the left to right of the cabinet with antipasti, nuts, dried fruit etc.
The dried golden sultanas looked stunning compared to the ones I've seen, so I had to have them.
Figs are sliced to order, hence looking fresh and perfect.
Last but not least, they garnish the box with edible flowers.
As you can imagine, each bite was heaven, a bit of this and a bit of that.
