[Review] Comforting school puddings at the Cake and Custard Factory

After getting some comforting school style puddings from The Caramel Tart Company, I discovered that they had a dessert shop on Commercial Road near Whitechapel so I just had to go there.

It is a lovely place to spend an afternoon or go there after school if you are a still a student.

There is a lovely glass cabinet which displays all the desserts and menu.

Strangely I didn't try the caramel tart at the other branch which was called Caramel tart because I was overwhelmed with all those sponge desserts so I tried the caramel tart here with custard.

The caramel tart base was thin and crumbly complimented deliciously by the custard but it would be good if they had the school type shallow bowls to give it that complete school feeling.

Will definitely recommend this to anyone as it is a lovely place to hangout.

[Review] Comforting school puddings at The Caramel Tart Company

I was on the 149 bus to London Bridge when I spotted this Caramel Tart shop on my left so took a picture of it.

At first, I thought it was just caramel tarts so I was thinking whether to check it out or not but then the foodie in me kicked in so I got off the next bus stop and literally walked back one stop to go to The Caramel Tart Company.

When I got there, it was definitely rewarding because it was not just caramel tarts but school pudding which got me excited!!

The amazing thing was that it had almost everything under the sun like crumble, cheesecakes, sponge puddings, tarts and vegan options with optional custard and cream.

On the first visit, I just got the Jam sponge with coconut and custard because I felt that it really represented my school puddings but to be honest it was really hard as the others choices were equally representative desserts like the Jam Tart, apple crumble, Chocolate sponge etc.

As well as the traditional choices, there were soda cakes which are made with fizzy drinks like Iron Bru and other flavours.

The jam sponge and custard definitely bought back school memories of the dinner ladies and the sponge was delicious as expected as it was fluffy and soft.

On the next visit, I decided to try something creative, so I had the mint chocolate aero sponge which was surprisingly good as it was chocolately with a minty kick.

Also had the cherry almond sponge which was visually nice with a lovely almond flavour to it.

Sadly, due to the Covid, I'm going to be stuck at home for a while so I stocked up on a lot of desserts from The Caramel Tart Company but in a way, the desserts will keep me happy for a few days.

Peach and pear crumble, cherry crumble and apple crumble:
The crumbles were amazing with cream and the crumble had a nice texture after it was reheated in the oven.
Cherry crumble:

Trio (Carrot Cake, Marble Cake, Red Velvet), Brownlicious, Upside down Pineapple sponge with treacle and Vegan Jam cake with coconut and Jam tart.

Trio (Carrot Cake, Marble Cake, Red Velvet):
The carrot cake was the best I've had in a while as it was moist with a lovely hint of cinnamon.
The red velvet was just as good.

Brownlicious:

Upside down Pineapple sponge with treacle:

Vegan Jam cake with coconut:

Jam tart:

All of them were amazing especially the brownlicious which was soft and chocolately and the pineapple one was sweet with maple syrup which goes well with custard.

I'm sure everyone knows about this company but if they don't I would definitely recommend it as they are on uber eats, just eat and deliveroo.
