Great cottage pie at Lamma

Jing Jing Bar (Lamma Island)

While I was stuck on Lamma Island looking for food I chose this place because there was Cottage Pie and it was reassuring because lots of expats were dining there.

The other items on the menu were the usual pub grub.

There was the tuna patty burger but it was sold out that day and the oven baked breakfast looked appealing because not many places serve that.

The prices were reasonable too and slightly cheaper than dining in Central, Sai Kung and Wan Chai for the same kind of food.

I was surprised it was not listed on OpenRice and it took quite a few times to get it listed to their database!

On my first visit, I tried the Cottage pie and on the second visit I tried the All day breakfast.

Cottage pie:

When it came, it just looked really authentic, I loved the browned top on the cottage pie.
The mashed potato was really silky with a hint of cheese and the mince below it was gorgeous infused with light herbs.
There were diced carrots and fresh vibrant green peas on top.
Anyway I really loved it because it tasted and reminded me of the cottages pies at school.

All day breakfast:
I don't know why I chose scrambled eggs but they were scrambled nicely. The piece of patty in the middle that looks like a burger is actually their homemade hash brown.
It was the highlight of the breakfast because the potato pieces in it were nice and there were pieces of crunchy vegetables in it.
The bacon was crisp and not too salty.

Lamma Marshmallows: when will I see u again?

佳佳麵包店 (Lamma Island)

Went to Lamma and finally found this shop, it is on the main street and easily missed.

I was there to get some Lamma Marshmallows so I got a few bags, one for myself and one for friends.

The lady said they could keep for a week in the refrigerator so I put them in the refrigerator.

On the day that I was going to give the marshmallows, I tried my bag to see if they still taste OK, and they were OK, so the owner did not lie.

However the sad news is that she maybe retiring in September because the owner wants the property back, hence she needs to find a new spot or retire.

After uploading the photos on the PC, I noticed they had mini coconut tarts on the left.
If I saw it when I was there, I would have tried it too.

Lamma Marshmallows:
The marshmallows were really nice, heavily coated with dessicated coconut and there was lots of peanut and crispy rice in the middle.
The sweetness was just right and the standard has kept since the last time I tried it.

Fresh hand cut fries @ Lamma Grill

As well as Tai O, Lamma Island also offers fresh Handcut fries at the Lamma Grill.

I already had lunch so stopped by just for fries.

When I went to order the fries, you could see a tray of freshly cut fries ready to be fried.

The fries were piping hot when they arrived and I put my favourite salt and vinegar on the fries.

The fries were delicious, with crisp skin, delicious starchy potato inside with a hint of sweetness.
They tasted perfect with salt and vinegar.

While the fries were divine, the biting insects were hell, I was bitten at least eight times before I finished the fries hence the low rating for the environment.

Job's tears thirst quencher

林記涼茶店 (Lamma Island)

I was really thirsty so bought a drink from here and drank it imediately after I paid for it so there are no photos.

Job's tears drink:On the drinks list, it claims to be low in sugar and I really appreciate that.
When I drank it, the sweetness was just right.
Usually Job's tears drinks are really viscous, but this one was not which made it a good thirst quencher.
I will definitely buy drinks from here again, so there will be photos next time!

Vegetarian @ Lamma's South Island Bookworm

This was eaten ages ago, but not posted, anyway originally planned to order three items, but the waitress said it was a bit too much for 2 ppl, but after finishing both the dishes I felt like nothing was eaten, so had an extra pea soup.

The tofu burger was nicer than expected, it was a soft moist patty, and the fries that came with it were actual potatoes with skin cut into wedges and fried.

The falafel was a bit hard but nice, the presentation was slightly different to the product picture.

Overall the environment was OK, but there was a funny smell in the restaurant and some flies, which they later got out some pesticide, food arrived rather slow.
It reminds me of Veggies SF and Life Cafe which I plan to try.
