Fashionable Chinese roast

Good BBQ opened their first takeaway joint in Central in 2015 but sadly I never got to try the slow roasted pork because it was always sold out.

I don't work in Central so it is hard to find a place nearby to sit down and enjoy it.
Managed to try one of the side dishes that was not sold out some evening which was really good because I love OKRA!!

Anyway, recently found out from FB that they have a joint at Lab Concept with a dining area so went there asap.
Coming from Pacific Place, there are these stylish piggies on the floor that lead you to the joint.

Each piggy is different and stylish that I like almost every one of them.

To my surprise, they have fine French teas and lamb charsiu on the menu.

With traditional Chinese roast shops, you are normally put off visually because you see weird wood logs as chopping boards, grubby staff with greasy hands, meat dripping and other meats touching the glass window.
Here you don't see that but you see a TV of what is going on in the kitchen.
Ordered the lamb charsiu and slow roasted pork which comes in a stylish box that is more fashionable than the previous fashionable blue box they had!!
According to Good BBQ, they will change the design of the box every now and again.

As well as the box, the suckling pig is also made glamorous with a golden chain and sparkling gem eyes!

Even the little details like the sauces are labelled nicely.

I loved the lamb shoulder charsiu because it has the charsiu sweet flavouring yet it has a prominent lamb taste without the gaminess.
As well as pork, lamb gives you another option and people who don't eat pork won't miss out on Charsiu.

The slow cooked roast pork was tender and delicious.

New on the menu are buns, a popular snack in the UK.
I had this evilicious charsiu bun topped with a 63 degree egg.

As well as charsiu, they also have crispy pork belly, duck and other combos.

Finished off with a lovely fine French tea which was the perfect finish.

Simply plain fluffy rice for $10

陽明燒臘飯店 (Wan Chai)
Your probably thinking why I am reviewing a box of plain rice!

Well, the reason is that not many places are willing to sell you plain rice because they get pissed off that there is not much profit involved.

There are lots of new joints that have opened and sell chicken only (such as ET and Hau Hing's) hence the need for rice.
At 陽明's they allow you to buy rice only!

Plain rice:
There is probably other people who just get plain rice from here too because when I asked for plain rice, they gave it to me without any qualms and even asked if I wanted spring onion oil on top.
So if your on a diet, rice with spring onion would be a good option.
When I opened the box, it was not quite plain because there was sauce on it, the rice was fluffy and hot and there was a hint of aniseed in the sauce.

Hong Kong's McDonalds: Rice Fun Bowl [Beef]

McDonald's (North Point)

Despite the negative reviews I really wanted to try the Rice Fun Bowl by McDonalds.

There is a choice of chicken of beef.

The beef is bascially the same beef patty they put in the burgers and the chicken is the chicken they use in the grilled chicken burger topped with sweet teriyaki sauce.

I am quite puzzled why it is called a Fun Bowl because it is clearly a box.
So why don't they call it a Rice Fun Box

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Rice Fun Bowl [Beef]:
When I opened the box, the portion was quite small.
The broccoli was just broccoli in its most natural form because it was just blanched and the rice just had pieces of sweetcorn in it which was quite nice.
In terms of being healthy just the broccoli and sweetcorn rice is nice and healthy.

However I did not like the beef because the sauce was too sweet.

The rice was not soft enough and frankly there should be more rice because you do not get any other items in the set leaving you quite hungry!
Luckily I used the coupon from the Newspaper to get it at $25 because it is only worth $23 in my opinion.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Future choices??There seems to be an option for pork and others as well as chicken and beef!!
Will we see sausage patty aka pork in the future for the Rice fun bowl??
Will we see curry sauce??

Italian rice balls @ Pizzetteria

Ordered the Italian rice ball with the appearance resembling a scotch egg, the order was packed in an aluminium box, a box I had'nt seen for ages.
I was instantly reminded of the indian/chinese takeaways in UK.
However in HK they use the CFC boxes, which also gives the food a slight CFC odour, especially with soup.

Anyway this is my first time trying the Italian rice balls, the rice was mixed with cheese and sundried tomato.

The cheese was strong, not mozzarrella as it did not melt in a stringy mess when it was heated. I would have preferred more cheese, as the whole thing was slightly dry.
The rice was slightly hard too.
Perhaps there was meant to be a sauce to go with it?

Apart from that, I really enjoyed it, and next time I shall try the fried dough with anchovies in it.

Microwave meals @ 鴻福堂

$28 for a meal and drink is a good deal I suppose.

The food is ok and there is a reasonable amount of variety.

The only reason I liked the pre-packaged food is that it seems clean and there is a reasonable amount of vegetables in it.
The drink was the best, I got the burdock tea with sweetcorn, and it basically tastes like sweetcorn and pork broth with carrots.
