[Review] Taco Bell in Eastbourne

Taco Bell is as fast food chain from USA serving Mexican style fast food like Burritos and Quesadilla etc.
There is now a Taco Bell at the former post office location facing the old Curzon cinema.
It is interesting how Eastbourne is getting gentrified with new chains and shops.
Will we see Burger King return or see burger chains like Five Guys or Shake Shack opening?

Anyway, the first time I had Taco Bell was in Croydon which is quite busy at night times.

The Eastbourne branch is quite spacious, wheelchair friendly and the staff at the till was really nice, he even explained the receipt clearly and told me his name if I needed anything else which is rare these days.

Ordered the Double cheesy black beans burrito to compare to the one I had in Croydon.
The menu is divided into a few sections: tacos, burritos, meatless, shareables, cravers and desserts etc.

++++++++++
Double cheesy black beans burrito:
The black bean burrito made my day as the cheese was not too overwhelming while the black beans were firm and not too starchy complimented by the al dente rice.
Overall, the burrito tasted as good as the first one I had in Croydon.

+++++++++
There are hot sauces available at the condiments area as well as mayonnaise.

[Review] Taco Bell - Croydon

Taco Bell is as fast food chain from USA.
There was a branch in Croydon so tried it as I have always wanted to try it.

The menu is divided into a few sections: tacos, burritos, meatless, shareables, cravers and desserts etc.

I tried two meatless burritos, a side of rice and cinnamon twists.
Annoyingly, the two meatless burritos and cinnamon twists were not on the website nor on the self ordering kiosk which is why I didn't try it earlier as I just looked at the self ordering kiosks and looked no further to the counter.

Here is the a la carte menu which is more comprehensive.

Double cheesy black beans burrito:
The black bean burrito made my day as the cheese was not too overwhelming while the black beans were firm and not too starchy complimented by the rice.

+++++++++
7-Layer Burrito:
The vegetarian 7-layer burrito was a disappointment.
Having 7 ingredients: refried beans, seasoned rice, guacamole, lettuce, cheese, diced tomatoes and sour cream.
Firstly it was cold and secondly I couldn't taste all these ingredients especially the guacamole or refried beans.

+++++++++
Seasoned rice:
The seasoned rice was just the rice in the burritos which you can order as a side.

+++++++++
Cinnamon Twists:
The cinnamon twists were different and tasted like sweet snacks sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon.
Overall quite nice as they were not too sweet or oily.

+++++++++
There are hot sauces available at the condiments area as well as mayonnaise.

Will definitely return for the beef melt griller.

[Picoso] Mexican inspired dishes

Laichikok restaurants are booming and there are more and more choices.You can now dine at Picoso for Mexican inspired food.

Ordered the steak fajita and chili con carne.
The steak fajita was better than expected because the beef was good but the salsa was just tomato puree.

There was some good chili sauce on the table which made up for the puree.

The chili con carne was interesting as it wasn't minced meat. It looked like meatballs in the dish but it turned out to be brisket meat.

The Mexican rice and cilantro rice were quite firm in texture.

For drinks had the avocado milkshake which was very weak as there was more milk than avocado.

The fizzy grapefruit turned out to be yuzu.

Overall, another place for lunch compared to the zero options many years ago.

Cinco de Mayo 2018 at [Coyote Bar & Grill]

Coyote Bar & Grill is one of my hangouts for Mexican Food, I always go there for lunch with colleagues.
At night, it is a totally different scene where the place comes alive.
For Cinco de Mayo, they are serving a new Surf and Turf menu available throughout the month of May.
There are two surf options and two turf options or you can Surf and Turf for $398.

Tried the two Surf and Turf Combos.  The lobster and hanger steak were the best especially the juicy hanger steak which was marinated in Achiote and cajun while the lobster tails were dressed in zesty lime butter.

On the lighter side, there was barramundi and Parmesan and Pistachio crusted lamb. The fish went well with Pineapple Ancho Chile salsa and the lamb was paired with my favourite parsnip puree and cumin roasted fennel

On Saturday 5th May, the day of Cinco de Mayo, there will be a party at Coyote!!!
The party will begin at 8pm with free entry, a free Tequila Patròn shot upon arrival, free delectable canapés, as well as games and prizes.  The night will also get heated with an exciting flaming Jäger-bomb show, a limbo contest, as well as piñata smashing for a chance to win a wide selection of dining vouchers for guests to use upon their next visit.

Exotic dishes at Verde Mar

Since my last visit, there are new dishes again.

This time, it is chicken wings, who doesn't love chicken wings!
I loved the crispy coating with a complex taste because there are so many spices according to the chef.
At first I could taste cinnamon then I could taste the cajun so the sauce was not really needed.

But in the end I tried the sauce anyway and it became really addictive because it was very hot and made the food appetizing.
The Mexican Truffle Salad (Huitlacoche) is also my favourite because it has lots of mushrooms which make it taste earthy and it is totally vegetarian.
Huitlacoche is very interesting because it is related to corn as it is a fungus that infects corn and causes it to swell yet it is a delicacy that you can eat!!! Hence the name Mexican Truffle.

For meat lovers, there was the Carnitas Taco with Blue Corn Tortilla. I was really lucky that day because the Tortilla is made from blue corn which was brought to HK by one of the Chefs friend.
Other than the colour, it is very filling with shredded pork and the sauce from the chicken wings complement it nicely.

Finished with the Pumpkin cheesecake mousse which will really surprise you because there is a good ratio of fresh pumpkin in it.

But then all their desserts are good like the sweetcorn icecream which has real sweetcorn in it.
For drinks, had the cooling Watermelon Mojito, Pin Colada and I had my favourite Horchata which is rice based drink with cinnamon.

It is really good to see them grow from a small joint in Quarry Bay to this cool restaurant in Wanchai!
