[AMMO x B.Duck Round the World Afternoon Tea]

AMMO - A short form for Asia, Modern, Museum and Original, AMMO is an award-winning, contemporary tapas bar and restaurant located in the stunning heritage site of a former 19th century explosives compound.

As well as explosives, the name AMMO makes me think of ammunition and soldiers in camouflage.

If it wasn't for the [AMMO x B.Duck Round the World Afternoon Tea], I wouldn't have visited this lovely spot hidden at the back of Admiralty.

I knew I was going to like the tea set because it had donuts, scones and burgers.

The adorable B.Duck has floated to AMMO this summer!

From now to 31st Aug, travel around the world with B.Duck at AMMO with sweet & savoury treats that represent the different countries.

Sweet Treats:
Japan - Matcha Tiramisu
Singapore - Sugar Cane Donuts
France - B.Duck Macarons
Korea - Mini Strawberry Ice Cream
England - Scones with Jam and Clotted Cream

Savoury Treats:
United States - Mini USDA Beef Cheese Burgers
China - Spring Rolls with Sweet Chili Sauce
Mexico - Mini Beef Tacos

When you arrive, there are some cute B.Duck mugs on table for you to choose when having tea where you also get to choose from the tray of tea forte tea bags.

The tea set was just adorable especially the cute burgers and strawberry icecream so the whole thing was easily instaworthy.

As always, I always eat the savoury items first and evidently I liked the burgers as they were tasty.

In the Sweet selection, I liked the variety as it was all my favourite items such as scones and donuts.

The Sugar Cane donuts were yellow inside with golden jam so they were a little different from English donuts which are white inside.

All the items were not too sweet which was impressive,
It was just fun placing the burger and macaron side by side.

You get to take home the special edition angelic white AMMO x B.Duck floating duck! (first come first served basis while stocks last.)

After having the [AMMO x B.Duck Round the World Afternoon Tea], you can join the hunt and win a [Round the World B.Duck Money Bank] worth $268.

Only one prize issued each day so be the first to win or be quacked!!

The hunt is great way to explore the stunning heritage site of the former 19th century explosives compound.

 One of the ten ducks that you have to find!

J.Co Donuts & Coffee from Indonesia

I am so glad that this donut shop J.Co Donuts & Coffee from Indonesia has landed in HK.

There must be so many other good eateries in Southern Asia that haven't made it to boring Hong Kong yet.

Anyway, they have two types of donuts, the ring donuts and the filled donuts, all with creative names and they are reasonably priced at HKD15 each or HKD88 for a half a dozen.

There were two filled donuts I had to try because one had Kaya and the other was avocado.
The filled ones are lovely but the cream inside is that nasty synthetic cream.

Here were the donuts that I had:

++++++
Avocado Dicaprio:
I couldn't taste the avocado but this is a good one to try because it is not so sweet and there is a slight savoury taste to it.
++++++
Sugar ice:
It was difficult choosing this one and the glazed one because I wanted to try a basic donut.
This one was quite soft and gently dusted with icing sugar (powdered sugar).
++++++
Forest Glam:
I love cherries so I had to pick this one but I wish there were more cherries to give it a more blackforest cake appearance.
++++++
White Desert:
I was looking forward to this because it was covered in shredded coconut and filled with my favourite Kaya but the synthetic cream in the middle ruined it.
++++++
As with all sweet treats, I love to enjoy them with a cup of Earl Grey!

++++++
I think the sweetness of the donuts are just right because I was able to eat four donuts in one go whereas Krispy Kreme I can only manage half a donut.
It was hilarious when the staff dropped the last box of baby donuts on the floor!

I wonder if this donut joint will cause crazy queues like Krispy Kreme did and whether Michele Reis (leegayan) will come here for a donut or its fate will end up like Krispy Kreme did in HK.

[Das Gute] Mini custard mochi bread

I was captivated by these mini custard mochis which looked like baby donuts dusted in icing powder but when I got closer it was actually mochi.

They cost $4.5 each or $17 for 3 which is quite pricey considering they are just a small bite.
Anyway, I got one because I wasn’t sure if they were delicious or not.

The custard mochi was quite nice because the mochi is not as oily as donut but the texture is a bit like chewy donut and the filling was ok, but the custard had a sickly white chocolate/condensed milk taste.

A quick treat at Marks & Spencer Food Store

I was still hungry after dinner so went here for some tea and a raspberry jam doughnut.

The raspberry doughnut was soft and chewy coated in delicious sugar and filled with fruity raspberry jam which was finished off with a lovely Earl grey tea.

For regular customers, there is a loyalty card to get stamps but I wasn't given one until now even though I have been there quite a few times!

Chinese donut

Tai Cheong Bakery Express (Wan Chai)
Thanks to a friend for getting me this.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chinese donut:

This time I had a whole one and my comments are slightly different to the last time I tried it.
It did not have that nasty frying oil smell and the taste was very egg and moist.

I was surprised to see that it was very airy inside not like the western donuts.

The donut exterior was like a huge choux bun, but the inside was incredible soft and extremely moist!

At first I thought the dampness of the dough was the frying oil, but it was not.

The donut looks big but when you bite into it, it is actually like a sponge and compresses. The donut exterior was chewier than the western type.

Overall I still prefer the western donut, but the inside of the Chinese donut is nice in the sense that it is moist and similar to fresh airy bread.

It is really similar to a sugar coated soggy American popover.

Sweet donuts filled with sweet fillings

Sweet donuts filled with sweet fillings Mar 27, 2013
甜心冬甩 (Mong Kok)

I have always wanted to try these donuts because they looked similar to Princess donuts (which is now out of business) and the pon da rings sold at Das gute.

It is located in the Argyle Centre which is slightly inconvenient for me.

Argyle centre is constantly packed with teens and girls which makes it difficult to get around in the hustle and bustle.

Anyway finally found their stall in the midst of the crowd.

The donuts were neatly stacked behind the glass cabinet and there were so many cute donuts.

The prices of these donuts were quite cheap too ranging from $8.5-$12.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Hazelnut filled donut:

I was expecting the texture of these donuts to be similar to Pon Da Rings which would be slightly chewy and mochi like but they were similar to cake.
Since all of these donuts were really uniform in size and shape, I believe they were made in donut makers similar to the ones that make waffles and eggettes.

The hazelnut one was sliced through the middle with delicious hazelnut cream filling.
The donut tasted really nice but it just tasted like a chocolate cake filled with hazelnut cream filling in a shape of a donut.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Apart from this flavour, there were also other fun flavours filled with: custard, ferrero rocher, sesame green tea custard and more please check their website.
{Unfortunately due to violations every time I publish a website address, my review gets reported, so you will have to google it!}
Some were glazed with icing and they had some pon de ring shaped donuts as well which were filled or had icing on top.

Guten Tag - Gute German food for sharing

I would just like to Thank the Cafe Deco Group for inviting me to try Berliner.
As well as Berliner, they have other great eateries which are listed on their website and each restaurant has a menu online with the latest promotions.

I have always wanted to try this place for the Berliner donuts and the pork knuckles.

While I was trying the food I found some similarities between German and English food, and some of it tasted as good as the school meals I had.
Usually people hate school meals in the UK, but the food at our school was quite good and I always had seconds.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chefs Salad (assorted vegetables, lettuce and herb dressing):
To start off we had salad as an appetizer.
The salad was really colourful and had a bit of everything, from lettuce, asparagus, egg, julienne carrots, cheese, rocket lettuce to radishes.
It was nice starting of with the salad because it was refreshing and the sauces were not heavy, so the salad tasted nice and light.
They also had other salads which I want to try next time such as the salad with buttermilk sauce because it reminds me of the lovely green salads in Switzerland.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roasted Pork Knuckle:
Next we had the pork knuckles which is deliberately slightly smaller than the usual pork knuckles.
The pork knuckles here have been steamed first to tenderize the meat and then roasted to get the skin crispy.
When I tried it, the pork was nice and tender with a lovely salted flavour and the skin was lovely and crisp.
The meat was so tender that it felt like I was eating duck meat (leg part).
As well as the pork knuckle, there was sauerkraut and mashed potatoes.
The sauerkraut was pickled cabbage which helps to balance out the heaviness of the pork knuckles, and the sauerkraut was delicious and not too sour.
The mashed potato was delicious and potatoey just like the ones I had at school.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Traditional Flammkuchen:Tarte Flambee with onions and bacon
Basically this was similar to pizza which they call Tarte Flambee in French meaning cake baked in flames, and Flammkuchen in German meaning Flame cake.
It was simple and delicious with bacon, onions and cheese. The diced onions and bacon tasted nice together.
Next time I am going to try the Fiery Flammkuchen which has camembert, chili and beef for extra flavour.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sausage platter:
(Regensburger, Nurnberger, Cheese Krainer, Thuringer served with sauerkraut and roasted potatoes)
This is a signature dish at Berliner and it was good to sample all the sausages.
My favourite was the Cheese Krainer.
They also had Currywurst as well which are sausages in tomato curry sauce.
Currywurst is the first thing you are taught in German classes for food vocabulary as well as the bockwurst!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Jägerschnitzel - Hunter Style with Mushroom sauce and spätzle:
I really liked it because it was pork escaloupe.
An escaloupe is a breaded cutlet made with boneless pork thinned with a hammer coated in bread crumbs and fried.
The size of this was quite big and reminds me of the A4 sized pork cutlet at some Japanese place in HK.
It was served with cream mushroom sauce and came with spätzle. Although I liked the green peppercorn sauce as well but that option only came with chips.
The pork was lovely and tender and I liked it because it was really thin, the mushroom sauce was not sickly at all and tasted similar to the mushroom sauce in the UK.
Lastly the Spatzle was the best, it was pieces of small irregular shaped dough and tasted exactly like pasta.
It might be bland for some but I found it delicious as there were hints of green peppercorn in the taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Berliner Dessert Combo:
Berliner donut
Again these donuts were delicious and similar to the British jam filled donuts.
It seems that they were cut from frozen because there is a clean cut and the jam does not ooze out.
german cheesecake (middle on the photo)
The colour of this cheesecake was slightly brighter than the usual ones, and the taste was amazing, because it was much softer than the American cheesecake and it was silky as well.
There were tones of lemon in the taste and the cheesecake had raisins in it as well tasting exactly the same as the cheesecake sold at UK's Marks and Spencers.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Vanilla pancakes with warm cherry sauce The pancakes had the lightest taste out of the three desserts but the sauce that came with it was strong enough because it was delicious tart cherries.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
apple strudel This was basically apple wrapped in puff pastry served with vanilla icecream.
The vanilla icecream was delicious and the vanilla taste was strong with vanilla seeds in it.
The apple strudel was deliciously hot so it tasted nice with the icecream, while the pastry was nice and crispy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
For drinks, I was so lucky to try two lol
Apfel Strudel Drink:
(apple puree, ginger beer, cream and cinnamon)
This drink is a MUST for apple pie lovers and I loved the way the apple puree gave it more dimension and sharpness.
After drinking half of it and mixing it together, it tasted like apple pie with cream and together with the fizzyness, it tasted like heaven.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Erdinger Alkoholfrei:
It was really good that they offer NON-ALCOHOLIC beer on the menu.
Since this was alcohol free, I did not hesitate to try it, when it was poured out, it had the same characteristics as beer with the fine foam on top.
It was fun drinking this because it was bitter which went well with the desserts and the best part was I was able to drink more than one sip to get a real taste of beer.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Anyway, I cant wait to come back and try their other items with friends.
