Seaweed noodles

I love this place because they serve modern noodles in bright purple bowls which makes the noodles experience fun.The choices of noodles are good and I came specifically for the seaweed noodles which were sold out last time.

You get to choose three items to go with the noodles and I chose okra, Hiroshima oysters and pork knuckles.

The oysters were plump with a strong taste, while the okra was a healthy treat.

The seaweed noodles are a bit like glass vermicelli but lacking the elasticity and sweetness which is good because it absorbs the delicious pork broth that gives it flavour.

ஜ Seaweed ╬ Chocolate ⇨ Seaweed Chocolate ஜ

I have always wanted to go Che Che New York but the confectionary is well hidden!
From the front of the shop and the entrance it appears to be a boutique selling handbags, so unless the bags catch your eyes it is easily missed.

I was attracted by the wrapper for this chocolate bar and it turns out to be seaweed so that was why I got it.
After reading some of the reviews they have other interesting flavours such as chocolate with chili and chocolate with jerky!!
All with nicely designed wrappers with nice illustrations.

Seaweed Chocolate:
Before I broke a piece of chocolate I thought it was just seaweed essence in the chocolate or bits of seaweed embedded in it but when i broke it I was astonished to find layers of it in the middle!

The texture of this chocolate was interesting because it was like eating chocolate wafers.
The chocolate on the outside is gradually melted and swallowed leaving the crispy seaweed.

The taste was quite nice because it was dark chocolate so it was not very sweet with a sudden contrast of saltiness from the seaweed.
The seaweed taste was not that prominent but you could feel it was there because of its crispiness and melt in your mouth texture just like a wafer.

Wrapper and labelling:
Interesting to see that it contains tuna and shrimp!!

Cute puffin!

Five spice beef tendon and rice @ Kai Kee Noodle

On my last visit I had the famous noodles mixed with soy sauce and the fried cuttlefish balls with seaweed, this time ordered the beef tendons in five spice powder with rice and the fried cuttlefish and seaweed balls again.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Beef tendons in five spice powder
Chose this because I did not want to eat beef and this dish was just pure tendons.
The portion looked quite small when it arrived but since it tasted nice I would prefer quality than quantity, although you have to becareful with the tendons as they have occaisional pieces of animal hair.
The tendons were so soft and gelatinous.
I was expecting thick sauce, but the sauce they used was the marinade sauce commonly found in Chaozhao lo shui dishes.
It tastes a bit like soy sauce with aniseed.

Fried cuttlefish and seaweed balls
The snacks reminded me of the meal I had at Sun Choo Koon in Tai Kok Tsui because of the cuttlefish and seaweed.
It was just like that cuttlefish patty with seaweed on top and the strong fish and seaweed soup they had.
The cuttlefish balls were really nice because the frying oil was clean, I loved the crispy coating.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
To try next time:
Curry wontons.
I wonder if they fried wonton with curry sauce or wontons with curried fillings.

Congee and the singing C-Opera waitor @ 潮城燒臘粥店

I was really surprised this place had an English menu.
Although it did'nt make sense but at least they put effort into it.
Ordered the congee, rice rolls with dried shrimps, rice roll with fried dough sticks and a soup.

When the the waitor bought over the soup, he sung out the name of the soup.
It just sounded exactly like Chinese Opera, but as there were some people from ChiuChow on that table they said it was ChiuChow style opera, anyway whatever it was, it all sounds the same to me.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
seaweed soup
The seaweed was clean and there was no sand, however it was so hot, it needed cooling down.
There was lots of Chinese coriander and celery in it too.
It was nice however it was too salty
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
congee
Tasted rancid and I did not like it
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
rice rolls with dried shrimps
Too soft and not cut properly.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
rice roll with fried dough sticks
Tasted good with the soy sauce and bean sauce.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Overall the rice rolls depended on the sauces heavily but the sauces tasted watered down and tasteless.
The air conditioning was really annoying because it made the rice rolls cold as soon as it was served.

Fried mushrooms @ Cube Square

This branch used to be located in Hung Hom but it was too far and not near any MTR stations.
http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=74025

I was glad they opened in Wan Chai and was planning to get some snacks from there especially the fried mushrooms. However I prefer the choice at Hung Hom because they had fried soft shell crabs and the pieces of chicken had fried basil leaves as well.

I was also attracted to the Hung Hom branch because they had eight seasoning powders: chili, seaweed, lemon, cheese, wasabi, plum and more.

However after I ordered the mushrooms I found out that they did not have the lemon seasoning or the cheese sad Also the staff who was frying the mushroom was severly sick, he was constantly sneezing and coughing!
I was so afraid my mushrooms would turn into poisonous mushrooms!!!

Anyway, the mushrooms were Ok, juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside, I only had a few incase they were infected! Hope that staff gets well soon LOL!!

On my next visit, I hope that they will have the full condiment range and the soft shell crabs.

They had fried chicken drumsticks as well but it was hard to notice because it was right on the top!
