Chilled egg tarts @ 蛋撻王 King Bakery

King Bakery have introduced their selection of cold tarts claiming to be Hong Kong’s first, I agree they are the first for other flavours, but for the original egg tart there is already one in Yau ma tei that does it

http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=13843

There are various of flavours: Set A: (2 flavours) chocolate, ribena, Set B: (2 flavours) black sugar, Hokkaido milk, Assortment A (3 flavours): mango, tofu, black sesame, Assortment B (3 flavours): original, mango and grapefruit (yeung ji gum lo), coconut.

The tart itself, is basically like a wheat biscuit, similar to digestive biscuit, also it is rather sweet and more prominent than the tart fillings.

I chose the black sugar and Hokkaido milk selection; the rest seemed rather common, the Hokkaido milk was very creamy, and since the tart base was very sweet, I couldn’t taste the milk filling. As for the black sugar one, I liked it because the dark brown filling was see-through like jelly. It would have tasted great if the base wasn’t that sweet.

I wanted to try the chocolate and ribena one too, the chocolate one would probably tasted ok, but I wasn’t sure of the Ribena, depends on the ratio of ribena concentration, and if they had used real ribena or a substitute.

Instant Jasmine milk tea @ 英記茶莊 Ying Kee Tea House

Previously saw their Jasmine milk tea featured in magazines, however they were sold out when I went to buy them, today they were in stock so got a pack, it was on promotion as buy one get one free, so got 2 packs, each with 2 sachets.

Basically it is jasmine tea with milk, sugar is already mixed in, hence no sugar needs to be added.

It is not actually their house product, but distributed by them, but the sachet has their logo printed on it.

The taste just tastes like the taiwanese milk teas, but hot version.

Not berry good @ H-Tea-O Tea Garden

The chocolate berry latte I had just tasted like red tea with frothed milk, so I asked if it was meant to have a chocolate taste, so the waitor took it back and made another one. As well as chocolate, there was no berry taste either.

I was expecting them to just add chocolate berry syrup, since on the menu it said the latte was made with chocolate berry syrup.

I was given the another one, which they freshly made, and this one had chocolate taste in it, but not the chocolate I was expecting. It tasted like hot chocolate mixed with tea, strong in cocoa.

I know chocolate is made from cocoa, but I was expecting creamy chocolate. Also, it was creamier than expected.
The berry taste was very faint too, so I think I should have got a take-out instead as it didn’t taste that nice and there was 10% charged on top.

Amazing golden apple crumble milk pudding @ Daniel's

I was very surprised with this dessert, it tasted so good I would have expected it from a dessert joint rather than a Chinese cafe.
Came across the restaurant in Wan Chai, but went to the CWB branch.

I ordered the Sawdust with milk and egg white pudding, there were 5 flavours: original, pudding, mango, red beans and apple.
Basically the pudding is topped with the flavour of your choice.
For my dessert I had the apple.

The apple topping was very very sweet, its appearance was stewed diced apple pieces in thick golden apple sauce, exactly the same as the filling in McDonalds apple pie minus the cinnamon flavouring.
I tried the pudding initially without the apple, it was smooth and silky and even better than the milk pudding at Yee Shun. The sawdust was finely grounded biscuit crumbs, which were crunchier than the normal sawdust served in other places.
The milk pudding was not overly creamy and didn’t leave a sour taste like other dairy items.
The decorative cream at the top was good too, smooth and creamy.

Firstly it was like eating milk crumble, then it felt like apple crumble.

It would be good if they had more layers of the sawdust in between the milk pudding, and it would be milk crumble and then by adding another layer of apple, it would become apple milk crumble! Wouldn’t that be fun!

Overall there is wide variety offered there. However some dishes are plainly weird!
Soft pork bone with clams (bit strange pork served with shellfish)
Imitation abalone and fatty beef slices (bit weird beef and abalone).

The restaurant was very noisy, as with all Chinese places.
Also the staffs product knowledge could have been improved, I enquired about a noodle dish as I wanted to know which noodles were served, and they answered “ordinary” noodles which really explains it considering there are many types ie egg noodles, wonton noodles, etc.

Milk and egg white pudding @ Daniel's restaurant

Previously tried the milk and egg white pudding topped with apple and fine crumbs

http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=41880

This time I came here to try the milk and egg white pudding on its own, the standards have kept, even without the apple and fine crumbs it still tastes good.
The pudding tastes just right, not too sweet and no sour aftertaste in the mouth.

The colour of the pudding is pure white, and there are no impurities in it, as you may find in other places.
There is no ginger taste in it either, the texture is a bit like dense uncooked meringue that has no air in it.

Freshly blended coconut and milk

This shop has been around for quite along time and they have branches elsewhere.

I am not fond of milk or coconut so that is why I have not bothered to try this shop, but I tried it for fun, and requested it to be less sweet.

The drink was freshly blended with milk and coconut. The coconut residue that remained from the blender was filtered out and reused again until it could not be blended anymore.

The taste of the coconut milk was quite pleasant and the slight savoury and buttery taste of the coconut meat is present as if you were biting into a real coconut.
