Delicious Modern Chinese delights

Dined here ages ago for dinner.
The name Tong Tong Town reminds me of Social palace so did the dishes but then these days modern Chinese food all revolves around the same things like being colourful, instaworthy etc.

For the mains, had the fish maw stirred noodles which were quite nice but the noodles had a touch of alkaline in them.
The bamboo pith in pumpkin sauce was a bit grassy because of the pea shoots and overall quite sweet.
The vegetable dish was colourful and healthy with slimy fresh purple mountain yam and black fungus.
For dessert, finished with the cherry mousse cake which tasted weird as there was some ginger in it.
Also had the piggy which is just the usual Chinese pastry.

Ruby Chocolate suspicions confirmed

At the beginning of the year, had the best pink chocolate drink from here.Decided to revisit for some more pink hot chocolate.
It was a different person there that day so asked if it was ruby chocolate that was used and it was.
Ruby chocolate is the fourth chocolate following white, milk and dark introduced in 2017 by Barry Callebaut.
The hot ruby chocolate drink is made by melting the ruby chocolate pellets and mixing with milk.
It was my lucky day as I got to try the melted Ruby callets which were sugary sweet with a note of raspberry.
The actual ruby hot chocolate drink is sweet and dreamy almost like drinking raspberry hot chocolate so I definitely recommend it.

Peruvian cravings satisfied

I love Peruvian food but I cannot get enough of it in Hong Kong as there are not many around.
Peruvian food revolves around unique ingredients like purple corn, chocla, ceviches and colourful sweet potatoes.
At ICHU, the decor takes you to the Aztec times ruled by the Inca Empire.

Beginning my Peruvian dinner journey I started with the CHICHA MORADA which is a concoction of Purple Corn, Pineapple Skin, Apple, Spices.
It was rich in ruby colour and refreshing in taste.
For appetizers, began with the  PALTA QUEMADA (Charred Avocado, Aji Limo, Tomato) which was black in appearance.
The avocado was coated with black dusting filled with tomato puree in the middle.
Next were the ceviches, these are popular appetizers with a Japanese influence.
There are so many different options with a choice of snapper, yellow tail and even tenderloin.
PEZ LIMON (Yellow Tail, Yuzu Vinaigrette, Corn)
CLASICO (Snapper, Choclo, Red Onion, Sweet Potato)
TARTAR DE LOMO CON MAIZ (Tender Loin, Corn, Carob Molasses, Chives)

As well as ceviche, the beef short rib COSTILLAS DE RES was so soft and the meat literally melted in your mouth.
It was covered in this delicious strong seco sauce which seemed to be laced with cumin.

Dessert was also good, the QUESO DE CARBRA cheesecake really surprised me as it was made with goat cheese and it was not heavy at all as the texture was soft and silky, not dense at all.
There was a fragrant creamy taste to it topped with raspberry and Quinoa.

Also had the TRES LECHE which was cake soaked in three different milks hence the name Tres Leches.
However there was a Peruvian twist to it with carrot sorbet which makes it memorable and I loved the meringue crackers on top.

Overall, all the dishes were perfect from beginning to end and will definitely be back for another gathering.

Durian icecream blind tasting : Musang King

Attended a blind testing for Durian icecream.

There were eight different brands that we tried and we wrote down our comments on the sheet as shown.

After all eight were tested, our sheets were collected and the results were revealed.

For this particular icecream, my comments were:
Natural durian taste with a medium aftertaste.
The texture was smooth but slightly icy.
The colour of this icecream was creamy light yellow.

I will definitely go and try their desserts because they have just opened a branch at Causeway bay so you don't have to travel all the way to Yuen Long!!
Hurrah!

Openricer's from Asia UNITE!

OpenRice held the first-ever super reviewer campaign ─ “Be My Guest” in September 2013 across 8 countries and regions of China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.

The 18 winners from the different countries were awarded a 3D2N trip to Hong Kong.

A special luncheon at YUE was held by OpenRice Hong Kong headquarters for those 18 winners which 4 local Elite and Professional ranking OpenRicers attended.

As a BBC, I was really lucky to represent Hong Kong and attend this fun luncheon and meet Openricers from Asia.

I finally got to try the award winning three layered steamed egg!!!
It was delicate layers of spinach egg whites, plain egg whites and carrot egg whites topped with seared Star Garoupa Fillet and Truffle Sauce.

It was stunning and delicious!
After the luncheon, we were all transported to the wine and dine 2013 event.
