EBI burger is back with pineapple : McDonalds 2015

Whenever the ebi burger (prawn burger) is launched, it becomes a popular choice.
Now they have launched the ebi burger with pineapple, which basically has a slice of pineapple in the middle with the same mayonnaise sauce that they use for the chicken sandwich.

The pineapple in the burger was a bit too juicy and stole the show with its sweet flavours.
It was also difficult eating the burger because when you bite into it, you are biting against the pineapple fibres so you have to tear the pineapple.

Texas at Tin Hau

I was really excited with this new burger joint in Tin Hau because there are hardly any proper Western restaurants in that area.

It is now a popular place for expats and XBCs.
The menu is quite good and there are some interesting milkshakes and burgers.

Mexican Prawn burger:

The prawn burger and the vegetarian burger are the only two on the menu which are served in a poppy bun.
Unfortunately the bun was hard and stale, but I believe it may have been there for a while due to the lack of people ordering prawn burgers (the most expensive item) and not many people will go for the vegetarian burgers.

The prawn patty could have had more prawns because the patty texture was a bit rubbery compared to other prawn burgers.
Other than that, I loved the guacamole salsa and horseradish mayonnaise which gave it a nice medley of flavours.

I believe the food will improve because they are constantly listening to peoples suggestions.
But I will return for the vegetarian burger and the curry.

EBI burger is back 2013

McDonald's (Wan Chai)

My favourite EBI burger is back!~
There are now two options, one with egg and one without.

Went to the McDs on Johnsons Road for the first time and the queuing area was so small that the queue overflows to the stairs entrance coming down to McDonalds!

The queuing area is so small that I don't know why they bother having a McCafe right next to the food counter adding to the congestion.

Anyway tried both versions of the EBI burger and as usual the Shake Shake powder comes free if you order the extra large meal.

If you choose hot tea for the extra large meal then you are actually losing out because the cup is actually the same size as the cup in the regular meal!

Ebi burger with egg:

This burger comes in a box and the one without egg is just wrapped in paper.
The egg in this burger was a bit too much and made the prawn patty tasteless.
I know McDs won't have this but if was omelette or scrambled egg with prawn instead of egg and prawn patty, it would taste much nicer.

Ebi burger:

At first glance, there is not much sauce in the middle.

The frying oil was a bit old, so the delicate prawn patty was ruined by the rancid oil, luckily the sauce was strong and tart enough to save it.
The prawn patty was really nice, it was soft and jelly like inside.

Japanese curry shake shake powder:

Basically it tastes the same as the curry powder launched a while ago but it has a hint of sweetness because it is Japanese style curry.

After eating the fries, you will find that your fingers and fingernails are stained yellow!!
Food colouring...................Nice!

Prawn burger:
Came back for the prawn burger.

The prawn patty was coated in breadcrumbs, layered with lettuce and drizzled with ketchup.
The bun was delicious with crispy sesame seeds on top.

Overall the prawn burger was nice but the prawn patty did not have much taste.

McDs Ebi burger with sesame/thousand island sauce 2012

My favourite Ebi Burger is back and so is my favourite seasoning for the fries.

This year they have the Ebi burger with Thousand island sauce or Sesame sauce.
As a preference I prefer the thousand island sauce because it is similar to prawn cocktail sauce.

For the fries they have Seaweed seasoning or Wasabi powder seasoning.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Ebi burger with sesame sauce:
The bun for the sesame sauce is slightly different because it has black and white sesame seeds on the top.
I tried this one first because the taste is not as strong as thousand island sauce.
I was surprised it was really nice because the taste of the sesame sauce is similar to sesame oil and not the grounded sesame sauce even though it was creamy, however there could have been more sauce.
The sauce was slightly sweet but matched the prawn patty and the colour of the sauce was beige.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Ebi burger with thousand island:
In contrast to the sesame sauce, the thousand island sauce was much more refreshing but for both burgers the amount of sauce was so stingy!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Seaweed powder:
As usual the seaweed powder tastes really nice however they could reduce the salt in the seasoning because McDonald's fries already have salt sprinkled on them before they are scooped into the fries box.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Wasabi powder:
This was really nice but the seasoning needs to be shaken well or some fries will have strong wasabi taste and some fries would just be sweet.
But when it is shaken properly the wasabi and the sweetness really enhances the fries.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Breadcrumb coating:
The last time McDonalds had this burger it was not breadcrumb coating, but with the breadcrumb coating it seems to overpower the taste of the prawn patty.
