Plant based protein choices by Gold & Green at Tacobell UK

For veganuary 2021, Tacobell now has a plant based option for their tacos.

Customers can opt for the Gold & Green’s Pulled Oats® for its new plant-based meat which is made from an innovative blend of oats and legumes while in the US, Tacobell uses beyond meat.
Using pulled oats definitely makes sense because I tried these overnight oats and they did have a meaty texture.

I was so excited in trying the UK version because I have already tried beyond meat elsewhere in Asia.
Due to the current situation, you cannot dine in and sadly I live far away so I only got a taco to try because it is hard for me to indulge and taste things properly to eat standing up as well as take photos.

With the taco, there is cheese, plant based protein and lettuce so if you want it completely vegan then it will be just lettuce and cheese.
So basically, for the tacos, you can choose the supreme or regular with a choice of soft taco or the crunchy taco.
The supreme has lettuce, tomatoes, cheddar cheese and sour cream while the regular Crunchy taco has just lettuce.

As I wanted to try the Plant based protein properly I ordered the regular with just lettuce.
You can also order other items like burritos with the plant based option.
When I collected my taco, finding a spot to eat was challenging as you are not allowed to dine in at the moment.
The guy who collected his the same time as me opted to stand outside a shop nearby and eat but as I wanted to take some pictures I went to a bench nearby.
Normally I would choose the soft taco but for photos, I decided to get the crunchy taco as it holds better.

I was quite surprised how nice the crunchy taco was because I have been put of corn made things from Doritos and bad corn tacos from other places.
Again, because it was a simple taco, it let me appreciate the different ingredients alone so the plant based protein was how I expected it to be with a meaty texture just like overnights oats texture without the soggyness.
Adding hot sauce to it made the whole thing so delicious that having one is definitely not enough because it combines the delicious crunchy taco with the protein and lettuce.
Overall, the crunchy tacobell with plant based protein is definitely worth trying.

If I get to go to America one day I would try their vegetarian version and see how it compares.

After writing this up, I was really chuffed to get interviewed by the Cheesy Gordita Bunch (Nick, Devin and Jordan) on episode 13 about how I felt about this meatless taco.

[Review] Wagamama Shirodashi Ramen

Wagamama is a British chain that has been around since 1992 founded by Alan Yau.
I used to go there a lot many years ago but less recently as there has been more choices.
It is good to see that Wagamama is still going strong.

The last time I had Wagamama was at the airport because the breakfast was exclusive there.

Recently went back to Wagamama because I have forgotten how it tastes after having countless ramens and noodles in Hong Kong.

The current menu is much more extensive compared to when it first began and they even cater for vegans.

Charcoal noodles are also on the menu.

For veganuary they are doing the vegan tuna.

On this visit, I had the Shirodashi Ramen which has slow cooked seasoned pork belly on top of noodles in a rich chicken broth with dashi and miso, topped with seasonal greens, menma, spring onions, wakame and half a tea-stained egg.

The ramen was a bit soft and breaks in half when picked up but overall it was good loaded with wakame but the broth was a bit too spicy for my liking but according to the menu it isn't supposed to be spicy.

[Review] Doner Spring Rolls at German Doner Kebab

After trying the Doner Durum Wrap I was hooked so decided to go back and try the Doner Spring Rolls which is a crispy spring roll filled with doner meat.
The price was 1.99 for 2.

Taking a bite, it was far more delicious that I had expected because of the juicy slice of Jalapeno which made the spring rolls moreish as it was bursting with tangy flavours that complemented the doner meat amazingly.
If only they could make these morsels a bit bigger as they are so addictive.

To summarize, I think German Doner Kebab is different and good as they use good quality doner meats.

[Review] Greggs Festive Mint Chocolate

As Greggs have launched some festive items, I was here for the mint chocolate drink.

Unfortunately I was a bit stuffed so just had the steak bake which is delicious tender beef in gravy inside a puff pastry.

The mint chocolate was rather sweet but then I expected it to be sweet because the hot chocolate base is sweet so adding mint syrup will make it sweeter.

Overall, the mint chocolate is worth trying as the hot chocolate they serve is not bad with a hint of mind.
On another visit, had the triple chocolate donut and the caramel custard donut.

[Review] Shades of Eastbourne

Eastbourne has changed so much over the past 30 years.
The town has seen so many changes with the loss of C&A, Littlewoods, BHS etc let alone restaurants.
There are not many places in the Arndale centre that serve English food except Shades which is understandably popular and busy during lunch times.

I love my traditionally home cooked old fashioned English food hence my regular visits to Shades.
As well as food, the tea is strong which compliments the food perfectly.

Here are the dishes I have had and the roast lamb was probably the best because it tastes like school dinners and the Marie rose prawns with baked potato.

The only drawback is the service, I wish they could be a bit more friendlier, not all of the staff but some.

[Review] KFC's Festive Burger

KFC has launched some festive items for Christmas.

Tried the new Festive Burger which is packed with a succulent Original Recipe fillet, a crispy hash brown, a delicious sage and onion stuffing mayo and topped with a tangy cranberry dressing and a layer of cheese.

Overall, the festive burger is worth trying because the cranberry sauce is really good and compliments the chicken.

The only complaint were the fries because there was no festive flavoured seasoning like the product shot but they were just ordinary fries.
