Off to [Chop Chop] for Chinese Roast

Whenever you go to have Chinese roast, you will always hear the chop chop noise [Chopping] in the background!!
The chop chop noise is meat being chopped up on the chopping board so I guess this is why they are called Chop Chop!!
Chop chop also means hurry up or to be quick in English.

The joint is located on the corner with two entrances and meats are displayed nicely at the counter.

There is an English Menu which make it expat friendly.

Chop Chop's signature dish is the Roast Pork Belly Rice where it first debuted in Stephen Chows God of cookery film aka Sorrowful Rice (#黯然銷魂飯).
It comes with egg and soup as a set.
The rice is a little different as they use premium rice which is harvested once a year at Wuchang city along with some wild rice.
As for the eggs, these come from young hens which produce smaller but nutritious eggs.

It was definitely a fulfilling meal as the meat was lightly charred on the edges but perfectly tender and moist.
Also tried the Chop Chop Char Siew which was leaner compared to the belly.

It really depends on which cut you like, for me I preferred the leaner cut as it was meatier and the charred edges were crispy with a slight stickiness.

To go with drinks, the the Crispy pork belly was just the treat.

The chef definitely had perfect chopping skills as you can see the pork is uniformly square with clean cuts and sharp 90 degree edges !!!!!
The meat and fat was evenly defined so each piece was moreish with a nice crispy texture. The roast was so good that I got some takeaway.

I like the way they use paper boxes like GoodBBQ as you won't get any CFC odour in the food.
It is always good to see Chinese roast going to the next level by becoming modern and presentable.

Trigger ready? Dog ready? Let's go Hot Dog hunting

Trigger Dog Family (North Point)

There are not many good places for hot dogs and some of the good ones have closed down such as Toppings which was just a few roads from this place.
Other good Hot Dog places that I like include Tsuen Wan's Hot Dog family, Sai Kung's juicy J's and now this one.

I saw it listed on OpenRice and was imediately attracted to it because the nameTrigger Dog Family sounded American.

After checking their FB, I knew I was going to like it because their Hot Dog names and design was really nice and not Chinesey.

The owner is a designer which is why the design is flawless and how a hot dog shop should look with the matching decor and posters.

Basically they have five hot dogs which represent the Trigger family, each with a story behind it illustrated on their menu.

Their hot dogs are inexpensive because Hot Dogs are a common thing in the US just like sandwiches in the UK, so their basic hot dog only costs $20 a la carte.

The hot dog itself is quite big so it is extremely filling and they have potato wedges too if you order the set which are baked and not fried making it oiless.
All the ingredients are fresh and do not contain preservatives.
The buns were how they should be and not local sweet tasting buns!!!

Menu:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Trigger's dog:

Frankfurter sausage with their signature sauce.
This is the most basic hot dog on the menu and it was really nice.
The frankfurter and soft hot dog bun were great together and the sauce complimented it nicely.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Essie's Dog:

Cumberland sausage and honey mustard.
This was a very meaty hot dog because of the cumberland sausage and it was very juicy dressed with sweet honey mustard.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Papa's Dog:

Debrecziner sausage with caramelized onion sauce.
The taste of this was slightly similar to Essie because it was sweet as well, but the taste of this dog was stronger because you can really taste the caramelized sweetness in the onions and the sausage had a smoky tone to it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Wendy's Dog:

Cheese knacker krainer sausage and tailor made bolognaise sauce.
I liked the meaty sauce on top and the sausage was filled with cheese in the middle.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Boston's dog:

Nueremberger sausage and black pepper sauce.
This was the one I was looking forward to and it tasted just as good as I expected it to taste because Nueremberger sausages are juicy and packed with flavour.
The pepper sauce was amazing too because there was an interesting aftertaste, there was a slighty minty feeling to it similar to sichuan spices.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Brownies:

The brownies were just as good as the hot dogs, they were freshly baked so they were still warm.
It would be great if it came with whipped cream.
They were soft and moist and tasted like those molten soft chocolate cakes with a rich chocolate content that was not cloyingly sweet.
It was so nice that I scoffed two pieces!
To avoid disappointment, call to check its availability because it is often sold out.

In conclusion my favourites were Trigger, Wendy and Boston.
For frankfurter lovers, you can go for Wendy or Papa.
For sweetness lovers, you can go for Essie and Papa.
For people who like British sausages, you can go for Essie or Boston.

Appauling food and customer service at the Golden pond

I have always wanted to try this place because they specialise in seafood and lobster with E-Fu noodles.
I was intending to try their E-fu noodles with lobster and the crabs.

Anyway when I got there the service was not particularly welcoming and when I asked about how their noodles were cooked they were really rude and just regurgitated the menu.
I did not know the difference between 燴伊麵 and 湯伊麵.
The answer I got was "燴就係燴羅, 湯就係湯伊麵羅," so as I did not know if the 燴伊麵 had sauce, so I asked if it had sauce and she answered in a sarcastic way, "of course it has sauce".
In English I was roughly trying to ask the two different methods they used to cook the noodles and the answer I got back was roughly "stir-fried means stir-fried and boiled means boiled" so if you don't know what boiled means they do not really help by repeating the the word boiled, it would be more helpful if they explained the process.

Apart from their atitude, I loved it the way the menu had atitude too, it states clearly there are no free drinks or soups included after lunch time!
In the end I just ordered two noodles and skipped the crab because I might as well spend the money elsewhere.

Lobster with E-Fu noodles 燴伊麵 [wui style]:
When it came the E-Fu noodles were covered with clear gravy topped with slices of lobster.
I was expecting the lobster to come in its shell! Perhaps only the baked version comes in its shell.
There was not much lobster meat, luckily the noodles were not rancid, but the gravy was quite salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Scallops in black bean garlic sauce with E-fu noodles
This was really nice because the steamed garlic sauce went on the noodles but the scallops were extremely tiny and I was expecting them to be bigger according to previous reviews.
The ovaries/roe part was almost invisible, after they were removed you could see how tiny the scallops were.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
For both noodles, the amount of vegtables were amazingly stingy if you look at the previous reviews.
I chose this place because the picture showed lots of vegetables which led me to think you could get a balanced meal here.
