I like the way there is a piece of lemon in the bottle for the Lemon and Barley drink.
Not many places will actually put a piece of lemon for takeaways or bottled drinks.

Malaysian Ipoh delights @ Wan Chai
Quite interesting, before Ipoh opened, there were two restaurants before it, the First was a Singaporean restaurant Pasar, then it was some Vietnamese restaurant and now it is Malaysian.
Although it opened recently, there are many regulars at this restaruant, and their customer service is extremely brilliant.
There was an elderly dining there, and the waitress was very attenative and helped her separate the chicken from the bone into smaller pieces and removing the chicken skin.
Anyway ordered some noodles, buk kut teh, chicken with rice and a lemon and barley drink.
ⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓖⓘⓡⓛⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓖⓘⓡⓛ
Buk Kut Teh:
The broth was not peppery but I found it quite salty
ⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓖⓘⓡⓛⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓖⓘⓡⓛ
Chicken with rice:
The rice was really nice and not oily.
The chicken was moist and tender.
ⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓖⓘⓡⓛⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓖⓘⓡⓛ
Hak-ga style noodles
I found the noodles quite chewy and not soft at all, but overall it tasted quite nice. Although the noodles had a strong taste, the soup that came with it tasted saltier than the noodles.
The sauce was really refreshing and it tastes like the chili sauce in some thai restaurants.
ⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓖⓘⓡⓛⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓢⓤⓟⓔⓡⓖⓘⓡⓛ
Lemon and Barley drink:
The sweetness of this drink was just right and it was slightly viscous.
The lemon and barley itselft could both be tasted.

Mee Siam @ Katong
Ordered the Traditional Mee Siam, the Beef Rendang and cold Barley water.
Beef Rendang:
Beef lumps in coconut milk, hmm I didnt really like it, I found it very smelly, a gone off milky smell. The rice was rather overboiled too.
Mee Siam:
OOOOh I really love this dish!! Thin rice vermicelli was used, and it was mixed in some sort of spices, anyway the soup base with really refreshing, and zingy, slighty sour and strong in spicy scent. The prawn, tasted very fresh too, and had orange stuff in its head.
Barley water:
first time drinking cold barley water, not bad! i asked for less sugar, so it seemed ok.

Beef rendang @ Katong
After trying numerous Singapore cuisines in HK, this is the best so far.
I used to get Laksa from here nearly thrice a week, but once the Laksa was super spicy, so I got deterred from it.
I decided to give it another go, and the Laksa was back to normal, not that spicy.
Ordered Laksa with beef Rendang, the Laksa tasted as good as usual, and the beef rendang was authentic according to my SG friend.
The drinks were perfect too, the barley water was not too sweet, and had a hint of pandan, the texture of the barley water was slightly thick.
The lime soda was literally lime + soda, a can soda with wedges of lime which tasted quite refreshing.
Finally the dessert was mango coconut sago, and as a Anti-Asian dessert person, I really liked it, it was pieces of mango on top of Coconut paste and sago, which is much more natural than mango pudding. The coconut paste was real coconut instead of the processed coconut cream which is a bit fake, and the syrup on top made the whole thing sweet naturally rather than pre-mixed.

The best noodles in Happy Valley @ Happy Noodles
Before this restaurant opened, they used to be located next to Freshness burger, a tiny joint that only sits about 6 people.
It was my favourite noodle place, but as it was small, I didnt go there often.
Now that they have expanded, it is much more accessible and the seating is much more comfortable with air conditioning.
Basically, they offer the basic noodles in noodle bars, but the soup base is brilliant, especially the Laksa base and the Tom Yum Kung.
The Tomyumkung has been especially formulated that you cant taste that annoying Lemon grass, and it has a piece of lemon served with it.
The tomyum soup tastes very similar to MAMA instant noodles, with a sour taste.
The Laksa is also good too, the soup base isnt too hot, and it has a strong prawn base.
The toppings I chose were really good, especially the pork liver, it was cooked just right, and full of flavour.
As well as the food, the drinks were good, the lemon tea dosnt have that bitter taste to it, and the job's tears with lemon is very natrual that dosnt leave a weird taste after drinking it. It was very soothing, and not too sweet.
The interesting thing is, that job's tears with lemon is a Chinese version of the English barley and lemon drink.
The menu is very user friendly and it has ENGLISH, yay~!!
Apart from the soup noodles, I have also tried the chow mein, and it is also the best, it dosnt need additional sauces such as soy sauce, the chow mein is packed with ingredients from ham, spring onion, chinese red sausage, although it varies from visit to visit.
Even though it is slightly expensive, the food is delicious and clean.

So ho way to the land of magic happiness @ SoHoWay
Found out that this place has interesting drinks such as coffee with wasabi, chili or lava salt, so went there to try out their drinks.
This cafe is situated on Lyndhurst Street, near the real Soho.
I was expecting it to be Western style but it was Taiwanese/Hong Kong style.
They had a tea set featuring the local Chinese milk tea and cakes made from Chinese milk tea.
I ordered a peach coffee and Jasmine milk tea with jobs tears.
I would have ordered the coffees with wasabi/chili/lava salt, but it was not mixed in with the coffee, the powder was just on the rims of the glass like margarita.
The product shot for the Jasmine tea was interesting because it had two layers, the Jasmine tea at the bottom with Jobs tears and on top it was foamy milk.
I am not a person for Jasmine milk tea, because it tastes weird, but here the milk and tea has cleverly been separated.
The addition of jobs tears was really innovative and healthy instead of Taiwanese bubble tea pearls.
Peach Coffee:
If I had read about the sodas earlier, I would have ordered a soda instead of coffee.
The coffee had peach syrup added instead of ordinary sugar/syrup, however it was too sweet even though I had requested it to be less sweet.
Jasmine milk tea:
It looked exactly like the product shot, which was good, and the milk had been made foamy so that it does not weigh down the delicate Jasmine Tea.
If you’ve had Jasmine milk teas from those bubble tea places you will know what I mean.
The sweetness was just right, but when I ordered it I made a request for it to be less sweet.
Th jobs tears were just right, not soft and mushy like other places where it seems to have been boiled for years.
The colour of the jobs tears were slightly stained rather than pure white.
The most outstanding drink would have been their sodas if I had read articles on it.
Their sodas are made with Nitrous oxide instead of the usual carbonated water.
Nitrous oxide is known as sweet air or laughing gas that gives people euphoric effects (a feeling of happiness, confidence, or well-being sometimes exaggerated in pathological states as mania).
I think if it was stated on the menu, more people would have ordered it.
But according to one of the previous reviews, the nitrous oxide seems to work because someone got happy from drinking it.
Apart from Nitrous oxide, Heston Blumenthal has been known to use sulphur hexafluoride, which temporarily deepens the voice, wouldn’t that be fun? and helium gas which is commonly known to temporarily make the voice squeaky.
It would be fun if they had drinks with those gases someday!

Oolong tea with grass jelly:
This was visually interesting and stunning, the grass jelly floated on top of the tea instead of sinking below!
I never thought the density of grass jelly could be lighter than tea.

Strawberry soda:
This tasted nice, however it was slightly disappointing because it was dead flat!
Isnt soda meant to be fizzy?
It was dead FLAT! So I told them it was flat, they re-did it again, and it was still flat!
I asked them if it was meant to be like that and they said it gets flat easily.
It is amazing how it can lose its fizzyiness within seconds of leaving the kitchen to the customer that is only a few steps away?
Anyway, I researched other drinks that contained nitrous oxide on the net, but the comments on it were fizzy just like other carbonated drinks.
I ordered this drink because Nitrous oxide is said to make people in an intense state of transcendent happiness combined with an overwhelming sense of contentment.
From one of the reviews, they said they were happy after drinking it without realising it contained Nitrous oxide.
I think this is one of their drinks to highlight, but I cant understand why they don't promote this drink or have information that this drink contains Nitrous oxide rather than ordinary soda on the menu.
They can't expect everyone that comes to Sohoway to have read that article in the newspaper.
If I hadnt read some article in the media about this place I wouldnt have found out about this drink.
After I drank it, I just felt soothed and calm, not as happy as one of the reviewers said.
It was probably because I was dissappointed with the flatness of the drink, so the drink just brought me back to normal levels!
I wondered if I had been in a normal state, would I have been hyped up.
