Preserved eggs specialist shop in Central

李煥糖心皮蛋 (Sheung Wan)
Thanks to Connie for getting me these preserved eggs from Central.
I like preserved eggs and I wanted to get my fellow foodies some Preserved quail eggs but that shop is too far away!

I had my preserved eggs plain.
After removing the shell, this was what it looked like.

The egg white part was like coffee coloured jelly and it tasted quite interesting, it was similar to hard jelly with an alkaline taste.

Next I tried the egg yolk and the centre was slightly runny as claimed.

These preserved eggs were delicious, and they tasted great when I put them in congee that I bought from a congee shop.

A very eggy rice roll @ Happy Welcome Restaurant

I never knew that you could get egg rice rolls, but I recently read Ivy's review about this rice roll place in Wan Chai that serves rice rolls with egg in it.

When I walked past this place, I saw a picture of rice rolls with preserved egg and egg so I decided to try that.

Apart from preserved egg, there were so many other choices for rice rolls.
Next time I am going to try the famous one nearby, but they only open during the evening.

Preserved egg and egg rice roll:
I was slighty disappointed with this because the preserved egg was a bit hard and tasteless. The egg on the other hand was really nice and had strong egg taste.
After putting lots of soya sauce on it, the rice roll tasted really nice.
Since the rice rolls were tasteless, it would be great if they made preserved egg and salted egg rice roll!

Second visit to Hop Yick, there will be a third

Since my last visit I was craving for more food from Sham Shui Po, the rice rolls and the liver noodles.

This was my first stop.

Last time the sauces made the rice rolls a bit too soggy so this time I asked for it plain.

Rice rolls:
The rice rolls still tasted as delicious as the first visit and after eating the preserved egg, I used that plate as a sauce plate and dip the rice rolls there.
Their soy sauce is quite strong, so you only need a little bit.
For me I liked my rice rolls with soy sauce only, but on my next visit I will try the full thing with ALL the sauces.

Preserved eggs:
These preserved eggs were really mushy, the yolk part had this alkaline taste to it.

Oyster sauce made with REAL HIROSHIMA Oysters

I have always wanted to eat here because of their luxurious noodles with foie gras and truffle, however Tai Kok Tsui is really hard to locate!

Anyway finally found it but I went during the day so I couldnt order the noodles with foie gras but I ordered the signature preserved egg and noodles with oyster sauce and foie gras oil.

Preserved egg From the photos this preserved egg looks so cool! The preserved yolk is molten.
When it came it was exactly like the ones in the previous reviews.
The texture of the preserved egg is mushier than the usual preserved eggs that when you pick it up with chopsticks the preserved egg white breaks.
The taste of the preserved egg yolk was really strong and delicious.

Preserved ginger Initially I thought it was boring sweet pickled ginger but I was wrong.
I appreciated the way they did not use colouring to make it pink.
The taste was really sour and I loved it and I ate all of it, and it was really refreshing to finish off with that after eating a really strong tasting preserved egg.
The pickled ginger is preserved themselves.

Oyster sauce
When I ordered I thought the oyster sauce would be seperate from the foie gras oil.
I usually ask them not to give me the oyster sauce because I do not like the Lee Kum Kee type.
Anyway when it came the oyster sauce looked different so I gave it a try and I was amazed!
It had real oyster taste, the Hiroshima oyster type.
The only complaint was that it was too sweet, but it went nice with the noodles and the lettuce.
As for the foie gras oil I could vaguely taste it.

Lettuce The lettuce was nicely blanched and the soup was really nice and not water as I initally thought, so the lettuce had taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Noodles I loved these egg noodles and the lovely oyster sauce really enhanced it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Next time I will come back in the evening and try the truffle noodles. Tissues:
