Fiji custard from BreadTalk

BreadTalk (Tseung Kwan O)

A new branch of BreadTalk has opened in Hang Hau.

This branch is quite small compared to the other branches.

Anyway I got the Fiji Custard.

Fiji custard:

I am quite puzzled why this is called Fiji custard because there is no custard in it nor can I find anything related to Fiji.
It was basically filled with cream and tasted like an oily cronut.
I did not like the crust because it was too crunchy.

Creative mooncakes and boring cakes

BreadTalk (Tseung Kwan O)

Went to BreadTalk for some sweet items.

Green tea cheesecake:


This was the Japanese style mooncake, it was flavoured with Green Tea.
The texture was disappointing because it was meant to be soft, but it was dense and dry.

Strawberry pot:


The strawberry sauce was really sweet and the cream in the middle tasted really artificial.

Extremely spicy sardine bun @ Breadtalk

BreadTalk (Wong Tai Sin)

I was intending to get some bread to go with some pate spread but could'nt find the type I was looking for.
Saw these buns which were baked on dried leaves so decided to try it.

Sayang Sardine:
The menu description for it was sardines and black pepper.


The fillings in the middle were really spicy and too spicy for my liking.
I was not expecting black pepper to be that spicy so I think there was chili in it as well.
Luckily I got this at a promotional price because I did not like it.

Apple cake:

The apple cake was really dense and it was too sweet.
There was lots of cinnamon in it and the apples on top were thinly sliced.

Berry rhapsody:


The berry rhapsody cake was quite nice, it was berry mousse in between layers of chocolate sponge.
The sweetness was just right.

Giant sized mexican bun @ BreadTalk

I like BreadTalk because every now and then they will have some interesting cakes and buns.

This time I saw this HUGE mexican bun, the diameter was bigger than a piece of normal sized square toast in the picture.



It was pandan and raisin flavoured so I got it.

Pandan raisin:
The surface of that bun was quite greasy and had a strong buttery smell.
It was green inside and the sweetness was mostly from the raisins and the crispy topping on top.
I thought it was fun to put bun against this big baby doll.

To be honest I can't stand baby dolls but this was an oversized one and its head is the size of a watermelon,
the doll beneath its hand is also an oversized doll too.
Its hand is slightly bigger than my clenched fist and its wrist is bigger than mine too.

Mysterious Black pearl @ BreadTalk

The name of this bread looked interesting because it was called the BLACK PEARL.

There was no indication on whether it was sweet or savoury but by the labelling I am guessing it was sweet because it was charcoal bread filled with black glutinous rice and mochi.

It was black and round.

BLACK PEARL:
The filling in the charcoal bread was not that even because on the first bite it was mainly glutinous rice.


Towards the middle, there was less glutinous rice and more mochi.


The taste of this was quite nice because the bread itself was not too sweet and it was filled with chewy mochi and glutinous rice which gave it more depth.
The taste of the glutinous rice was quite strong which gives the bread most of its flavour along with its sweetness.

Get your tastebuds ready for Avocado lush cake

Avocado is classified as a savory fruit and used mostly for salads and guacamole.

The only time I have had it sweet was the Indonesian Apokat drink which is avocado and syrup.

When I saw this cake, I initially thought it was Green tea or pistachio because of the green colour, however when I saw the label Avocado lush, I was quite surprised and I wonder how the locals will react to it.

I wasn't quite sure how this was going to taste because Avocado itself it quite heavy and rich alone.
For fun, I have tried eating avocado with plain sugar and it was quite nice.

Breadtalk is from Singapore, so their creations are likely to be influenced by countries near it such as Malaysia and Indonesia.

Avocado lush: When I tried it, the cake was not as heavy as I imagined it to be because there was no real avocado in it.
I believe they used avocado syrup or essense.
The taste of the avocado was not that strong and the cake whole tasted quite complicated because it was slightly bitter as well as sweet, and there were crispy pieces as well as chewy pieces in between the mousse.
I think I prefer the cake without those extra crispy pieces because they have made it too complicated.
Although the taste is not describable, I would not mind buying this again because it tasted quite nice.

Orange tea spa
This cake was quite refreshing and the orange taste was strong.
The raspberry and orange were really nice together and I liked the orange jelly with the chocolate cake.

Claypot chicken
Label description: 1 cup + 1 cup + 1 cup = three cup chicken.
This was a savoury bun and I was attracted to it because of the filling and it was black!
The bun was surrounded with crispy strands.
The filling was really nice with a strong basil taste.
It was definitely good eating something different.
