Vegetarian tofu patties

Fairwood (Tseung Kwan O)

I rarely eat here because the options are just too local for my liking.

On this occasion, I dined here because they had vegetarian tofu patties.

Tofu fritters and fried gluten in red fermented beancurd sauce:

The tofu patties were luke warm and the first patty I tried was really sour! I wasnt sure if it had gone off or it was meant to taste like that.

The rest of the tofu was ok and it had pieces of Chinese celery in it, but the sauce was really disappointing because it did not have red fermented beancurd taste.

rice:

The rice was extremely hot and you could see hot steam coming from it!
I just wished that the rice wasnt so hot and the tofu was hotter!

Low sugar green tea came with the meal but the Jasmine taste was really artificial and the sweetness was still quite sweet so I left it.

Boring roast duck and bbq roast pork @ Fairwood

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Roast duck and bbq roast pork:
Not quite sure why I bothered getting this but the BBQ pork was really sweet and there was too much oily soya sauce on the rice.
The duck was how it should have been.
The colour of the BBQ pork was a bit strange because it was the same colour as the duck!

Delicious runny scrambled eggs @ Fairwood

I love the scrambled eggs here and the thick toast so I general have it if I can wake up in the mornings!!!!!!!
As you can see the egg is scrambled but it is still runny which is delicious. Along with the egg there is a piece of toast which toasted just right because of the thickness, crispy on the outside and sligthly soft in the middle.
There was also spam which is my favourite too which is better than being given thinly sliced ham.
To me thinly sliced ham is for sandwiches and toasts. In Hong Kong it is so weird they re-fry it and serve it for breakfast!

As well as that there was vermicelli as well.
The vermicelli was nice because of the preserved vegetables, however it was a bit weird having vermicelli and Western style breakfast together.

Slow cooked steak selection @ Fairwood

After trying the slow cooked beef with pasta, I was looking forward to the slow cooked steak for more meat because the lunch version only had a few slices of beef.

Sadly the steak was quantity and not quality, whereas the lunch was quality and not quantity!

Although there was more meat in the steak, it had lots of tendons so there was alot of wastage when I ate it.
The vegetables tasted slightly dehydrated.
The plate was annoying because it was not a flat plate, it was concaved in the centre making it hard to eat!

Delicious SOUS-VIDE beef with egg and truffle

I am not a regular Fairwood customer but went especially for the Slow-cooked beef with egg and truffle. The Slow-cooked beef with egg and truffle is only available for lunch, which is annoying.
In the evening they have slow-cooked steak which is not appealing to me as you have to cut the steak.

Slow-cooked is the Layman’s term for SOUS-VIDE a method used in many top-notch places.
The word SOUS-VIDE seems too hard to comprehend for Fairwood’s target market because they usually are students, housewives and office workers.

But anyway, the slow cooked beef was really good and they should have an upper end of Fairwood like how there is an upper end of Arome bakery called Arome bakery room, which sells cakes at a higher price.
The dish was priced at $40 and does not include a drink so I had to add $9 for the pineapple punch with nata de coco.
I just think it sucks because Fairwood is self-service where you pay, collect the food and find a seat especially when you come in for their deluxe selection which cost more.
With fine foods like that I wish they had an upper scale restaurant for it.

Slow-cooked beef with egg and truffle
As expected the beef was lovely and soft and extremely juicy, however it lacked the taste of beef if you are a beef lover.
The pasta was slightly too salty and oily with tonnes of garlic, but despite that, the pasta was really nice. It was nice that it came with broccoli.
The egg seemed to have some egg white missing, the portion of truffle was reasonably generous. Overall I liked everything and ate it all!
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Pineapple punch with nata de coco I was really surprised it was a nice drink, it was not syrupy or too sweet.

Apart from the food, the air con was so strong that it blew the tissues from the table to the floor!!
So you can imagine how cold it was! ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
題外話/補充資料:
Sous-vide is a method of cooking food sealed in airtight plastic bags in a water bath for a long time - 72 hours in some cases—at an accurately determined temperature much lower than normally used for cooking, typically around 60 °C (140 °F). The intention is to cook the item evenly, and to not overcook the outside while still keeping the inside at the same 'doneness', keeping the food juicier.
