[The Place] Summer in Hawaii

In Hong Kong, buffets are just buffets with oysters and lobsters because this is a basic requirement that Hong Kongers want to have.
At The Place, Cordis, they are doing a Hawaiian themed buffet for summer which is really worth trying because there are only one or two places in HK for Hawaiian food.

From appetizers to desserts, you will find something exciting.

Lomi lomi salmon, tako poke, seared ahi nori roll:

Lau lau roasted pork:

Desserts:
Rainbow shave ice:

Macadamia souffle:

Almond rice pudding:

Pina colada cake:

Pineapple mousse cake:
They also have craft beers from Hawaii at a special price of HK$50 per bottle.
My sweet tooth totally kicked in because of all those exotic desserts.
The macadamia souffle was divine because the creamy nuts really give it texture and flavour while the shave ice was the best thing to have on a hot day.
Shave ice is not to be confused with Shaved ice because that is how they call it in Hawaii.

++++++++
Dinner buffet: 6:30-9:45pm
Sun-Thurs & PH: Adults HK$608, Kids/seniors HK$428
Fri, Sat, PH eves: Adults HK$648, Kids/seniors HK$468

The Place:

Pokirittos at Pokéworld

At Pokéworld, they serve Pokirittos, salad or rice.

As I have already tried the bowls at ALOHA, I decided to try the Pokiritto.

The bowls would be more filling if your hungry.

Anyway, I chose tuna and tofu as proteins and the veggie section was really good because you can choose lots of veggies and I love veggies.

I would love to order a vegetarian Pokiritto next time but tofu is not as costly as fish so it would work out more expensive.

My Pokiritto was really delicious because the ingredients were fresh and the crisp veggies made a difference complimented by the soft silky tofu.

ALOHA has serious competition now, the only thing POKEWORLD doesn't have is the Spam Musubi!
You can also get POKE in Quarry Bay but I prefer POKEWORLD and ALOHA!

Aloha Second Hawaiian joint in HK

The first time I tried Hawaiian POKE was at Pololi in Central, I wasn't quite sure if it would become popular with the locals but HK'ers love sushi and sashimi bowls.

POKE is typically raw tuna (ahi) cubes marinated with sea salt, a small amount of soy sauce, inamona (roasted crushed candlenut), sesame oil, limu seaweed, and chopped chili pepper.

It is encouraging to see a similar shop in Quarry Bay because Quarry Bay has more people than eateries so every restaurant is packed at lunch.

At Aloha, they have more options such as Quinoa and brown rice.
From the choices, they use mostly yoghurts and coconut dressings so they all taste similar and creamy.
The wasabi one also tasted creamy and the wasabi was not strong enough.

I got the tofu because the fish wasn't that interesting and they all tasted really similar.

Tofu avocado:

The tofu had a creamy taste and the lime was not strong enough.
There were big chunks of tofu which were chewy, spongy and rubbery but didn't have much taste and it got sickly after I had a lot of tofu.

A taste of Hawaii

This is one of the great things about Hong Kong, you can try almost every cuisine in Hong Kong if it exists!

It was my first time having Hawaiian food because I have never been to Hawaii or the US before.

At Pololi, they specialize in Hawaiian POKE.
POKE is typically raw tuna (ahi) cubes marinated with sea salt, a small amount of soy sauce, inamona (roasted crushed candlenut), sesame oil, limu seaweed, and chopped chili pepper.

However at Pololi, there are six different POKE flavours ranging from wasabi mayonnaise, Hong Kong to Traditional style.

Luckily, they will let you taste each one before you order so you can decide your favourites.

As I was hungry, I got the Hawaiian sashimi bowl for $90 which is served on rice or salad or a mix of both.

The decor of this place was colourful and bright.

I spotted some Spam musubis which I shall have to try next time.

Hawaiian sashimi bowl:

For the sashimi bowl, you get to choose two flavours and I ended choosing the Hong Kong style and the ginger shoyu.
Tuna has always been my favourite sashimi because it is tasty and I love its soft texture which is great with rice.
This sashimi bowl was simple and delicious because the tuna was well marinated especially the ginger and shoyu flavour while the Hong Kong style flavour was slightly tastier because it had five spice and other marinades.
While I was dining there I spoke to this Hawaiian expat and he said the food was pretty native but lacked some seaweed in the POKE mixture.
