[Best Western Macau Hotel Sun Sun] Staying in the heart of Macau

While Hong Kong is one of the most expensive cities to live and travel, Macau is getting there as well.
Best Western Macau Hotel Sun Sun was referred to me by a friend and it really appealed to me because of the location.
It is only 10 - 15 minutes away from Ruins of St. Paul’s and A-Ma Temple and the supermarket Sunsco is just round the corner.
The best thing is, you are staying in the middle of a residential area so you see the real everyday life of Macanese people with local eateries nearby which are not touristy prices.
Saying that, there is a fantastic place for dimsum nearby which recently got recommended by Michelin and this other Michelin recommended noodle joint, so a double bonus for foodies.

The hotel offers a variety of rooms from standard to deluxe suites, and all rooms are non-smoking and equipped with amenities including air conditioning, flat-screen TV, electric kettle, freezer, a bathroom with shower and personal care amenities etc.
A relaxing bath:
Coffee maker:
Stylish fridge filled with refreshments

We dined at THE SQUARE PORTUGUESE RESTAURANT located in the hotel offering delicious Portuguese fare with American decor.

Delicious bites of bacahau:
Kale and potato soup:
Clams:
Chicken curry with spices imported from India:
Mouth watering African chicken which had a fiery chili and peanut sauce drenched on top:
Roast suckling pig
Desserts:
My favourite was the Serradura pudding because I love whipped cream!

They are currently adding more items to the menu to offer more variety as well as Portuguese dishes.

Outside the hotel, you will find that it is surrounded by colourful street art making it fun for selfies.

Tai Lei Loi Kei revisit

Tai Lei Loi Kei (Central)

Thanks to Mjqueen7e for treating at me Tai Lei Loi Kei.

I have tried this place before and got addicted to the Bacalhau mashed potato balls.

Mjqueen7e had a groupon cash voucher so we used that for payment.
I have never bought from groupon because I do not believe in it.

The packaging had slightly improved and was more attractive.

Bacalhau mashed potato balls:
The Bacalhau's tasted as good as my first visit.
The fish inside was silky with mashed potato and tasted like delicious Western fish cakes.
However there was grounded bones which was not that good.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pork chop in Pineapple bun:
The paper bag for the bun was quite thick and tough which makes it durable for rainy days!
To be honest, I thought the combination of the sweet pineapple bun and pork chop was weird so I ate them separately.
The pineapple bun was hot with a lovely crumbly top and the pork chop was nice and tender.

Curry and Laksa from Macau in Shaukeiwan

Restaurant: 澳門咖喱叻沙 (Shau Kei Wan)

This shop used to be Winton world and now it has transformed into a joint serving curries, laksas, and Taiwanese roti.

There were quite a few items I wanted to try: Tom Yum noodles and Laksa noodles but in the end I tried the Taiwanese roti with beef curry.

The joint is quite small and seats about six people.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Beef Curry:

The beef curry was thick and the colour was greenish brown.
It was extremely spicy mixed with lots of spices.
It was quite nice but it was slightly too salty.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Taiwanese roti:

The Taiwanese roti was really nice because it was not too oily and it was crispy and flakey just perfect for dipping it into the salty curry.

Macau's Tai Lei Loi Kei in Hong Kong

In Central, you can now order pork chop buns with this new branch of Tai Kei Loi Kei from Macau.
I remember seeing this in Macau but I did not try it.
The prices seem cheaper in Hong Kong compared to the one in Macau.
However the branch in Macau had a really nice smell of pork chops coming out from the shop.

On my first visit, they did not have all the items available so I tried it another day in one go.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Supreme pork chop bun:
All their pork chops have a bone attached because they claim the meat is more tender and juicy.
The pork chop tasted ok but the baguette bun could have been fresher.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Portugese style Spicy fish baguette:
Same as the pork chop bun, the baguette could have been fresher because the texture was not that springy.
The spicy fish was a mix of fish and onions in curry powder which I found too spicy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bacalhau mashed potato balls:
It was weird that they came with thai sweet chili sauce, I would have preferred ketchup or lemon.
I did not use the sauce anyway.
The mashed potato balls were really nice and the fish taste was really strong and the potato was nice and fluffy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Drinks:
The usual pork chop bun comes with soft drinks or tea, but they had other interesting drinks from Santa Vittoria too.
