[DALLOYAU Hong Kong] New summer ice cream selection

Summer is here and I was invited to try DALLOYAU's new summer ice cream selection.

There are three new colourful flavours: Rose, Raspberry and tropical Peach & Mango.

Tried all three and personally I like the raspberry because it is sweet and fresh tasting like Yoplait's raspberry yoghurt.

The rose was really fragrant so it all depends if you like rose while the peach and mango I found quite sweet.

Other sweet treats such as Macarons, strawberry mousse cake and the raspberry opera.

Mix and match drinks with style by MANGO EXPRESS

Mango Express (Tseung Kwan O)
This shop is called Mango Express which is a new line of drinks by Hui Lau Shan.

But for some reason, OpenRice has listed this as Hui Lau Shan and not Mango Express.

Quoted from Hui Lan Shan's Facebook page:

It opened on the 3rd of August, offering D.I.Y drinks with up to 80 combinations!!

To order your D.I.Y drink, follow the steps:
Step 1: Choose your drink based on a choice of five juices: Mango, coconut, watermelon, blueberry or pineapple.
Step 2: Choose an ingredient from: sago, basil seed, mango or pineapple.
Step 3: Choose a jelly base: aloe jelly, mango pudding, mango jelly, or honey jelly.

If you can't decide or wait, there are drinks already mixed in the fridge for grab and go convenience.

Bright and colourful straws for the drinks.

My DIY Drink:
Pineapple x Sago x Aloe Jelly
Great concept and drink but it was WAY too sweet and syrupy!
It really wrecked their claims on healthy drinks.
The aloe jelly was really nice though because it had a strong pandan taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
As well as drinks, they also sell their usual snacks such as curried fishballs, shaomai's and one snack I found interesting was the Durian chocolate!

Chilled egg tarts @ 蛋撻王 King Bakery

King Bakery have introduced their selection of cold tarts claiming to be Hong Kong’s first, I agree they are the first for other flavours, but for the original egg tart there is already one in Yau ma tei that does it

http://www.openrice.com/restaurant/sr2.htm?shopid=13843

There are various of flavours: Set A: (2 flavours) chocolate, ribena, Set B: (2 flavours) black sugar, Hokkaido milk, Assortment A (3 flavours): mango, tofu, black sesame, Assortment B (3 flavours): original, mango and grapefruit (yeung ji gum lo), coconut.

The tart itself, is basically like a wheat biscuit, similar to digestive biscuit, also it is rather sweet and more prominent than the tart fillings.

I chose the black sugar and Hokkaido milk selection; the rest seemed rather common, the Hokkaido milk was very creamy, and since the tart base was very sweet, I couldn’t taste the milk filling. As for the black sugar one, I liked it because the dark brown filling was see-through like jelly. It would have tasted great if the base wasn’t that sweet.

I wanted to try the chocolate and ribena one too, the chocolate one would probably tasted ok, but I wasn’t sure of the Ribena, depends on the ratio of ribena concentration, and if they had used real ribena or a substitute.

Green mango slush drink @ Joda's cup

After trying the freshly brewed Jasmine tea, I came back for the green mango and black sugar tea.

The green mango was excellent, just at the right sweetness and it had bits of mango in it.
As for the black sugar tea, its basically hong kong style tea with black sugar syrup, which was not that evident in taste.

I would recommend the slushes for fast coolers to the hot weather, and the Jasmine tea for refreshers.

POLKA DOT rainbows in six flavours @ A-1 Bakery

Saw the colourful advert for these POLKA DOT cakes, my first thought was colourful donuts, however on a closer look they were donut shaped cakes with a hole in the middle.
I cannot quite correlate why they were advertised as Polka dots because the definition of polka dots is: a pattern consisting of an array of filled circles, generally equally sized and spaced relatively closely in relation to their diameters.
Nevertheless I was excited to try them because there were six fun flavours:
1)Earl grey and apple [refreshing earl grey with moist apple slices]
2)Swiss choco rum-raisin [rich chocolate flavour with rum-raisins]
3)Pistachio dark cherry [An aromatic pairing of pistachio and cherries]
4)Choco-chip very berry [Lightly sweetened with strawberry, raspberry and chocolate goodness]
5)Mango madness [An exotic flavour with mango puree and dried mangos]
6)Matcha azuki bean [flavored with Japanese dark matcha paste with sweet azuki beans]

I got all of them except for mango and matcha because I hate azuki beans and mango.
When I opened them, I was slightly disappointed because they were steamed cakes and not baked.
It ruined the taste slightly because the texture of these steamed cakes were too mushy and soggy. If they had been baked, they would have been more fragrant.

Although they could have tasted better, I was really pleased that A1 Bakery were adventurous with the flavours they came up with especially with the use of earl grey, rum raisins, and darks cherries for an Asian bakery.
Earl grey and apple:
The cake was very soggy and sticky and with the moist apple slices it was even more soggy.
The apple was pieces of sliced quarters, and in the cake were bits of earl grey.
The earl grey and apple flavour was too sweet.

Swiss choco rum-raisin:
This was quite nice especially with the rum-raisins.
Again it was too moist.

Choco-chip very berry:
Although the strawberry flavouring was a bit fake, the chocolate chips were slightly melted in the cake, which tasted nice together with the cake.
The cake itself was light pink.

Pistachio dark cherry:
This was my favorite out of the four. When I was picking them I assumed this was matcha because of the green colour.
There was generous dark cherry halves in the cake, and the pistachio flavouring was quite prominent in the cake.
