Uji Matcha series at Arome Bakery

Arome Bakery has launched a new Uji Matcha series and the cake looks like a woven green basket!

Anyway I tried the bun which could have tasted better because it tasted like raw dough and it was rather sweet.
The bean paste in between the bun had a starchy texture and was quite nice.

Arome bakery melon tart

After trying the melon dessert cup, I got the melon tart the next day.
It was visually prettier and tasted better.

The tart was the usual crumbly short crust base with a layer of chocolate, cream, a small piece of cake topped with glazed pieces of melon on top.

I liked it because it tasted natrual with cream and melon.

Coffee slice from Arome bakery

Was given this cake by someone and it was quite a weird cake because it was layers of flakey pastry and coffee flavoured cake in between.

It was a strange contrast of moist cake and dry flakey layers with a strong coffee taste and localized salty and sweet buttercream!

Blueberry tart @ Arome bakery

Although the blueberry tart was a bit too sweet, it was actually delicious.

I loved the crust because was not too buttery and the tart was filled with a layer of cake, a thin layer of chocolate and cream topped with glazed blueberries.

Arome bakery’s ice dumplings

Arome bakery’s ice dumplings

Traditional dumplings are made with glutinous rice and wrapped in plant leaves but now there are some modern ones called Ice dumplings because they have a clear translucent exterior and they are eaten cold.

There are quite a few flavours at ABR but there were only three I wanted to try which were purple sweet potato, apple and brown sugar.

They only had the purple one so I got that for $28.

The packaging was cute, you just peel off the lid and eat.

The dumpling exterior was very chewy and the purple potato puree was too sweet and tasted artificial so I think I will probably just buy the apple to try next.

Okinawan purple potato and genmaicha roll cake

The Swiss roll slices looked good so decided to get one.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Okinawa purple potato and genmaicha roll cake:

The roll was quite nice because there was more Genmaicha filling than purple potato puree, but the filling got a bit too creamy and heavy towards the end.
It would be great if there was more sponge cake layers like Western Swiss rolls and less of the filling.

Arome Bakery Room's Lemon meringue dessert cup

Saw these vibrant yellow desserts and when I realized it was my favorite lemon meringue I decided to get one.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Lemon meringue dessert cup:

The dessert was surprisingly quite nice, it had a layer of cake, lemon mousse, a piece of peach in the middle and lemon curd jelly on top with a chewy soft egg white meringue.
It was quite refreshing to find a piece of canned peach in the middle and I loved the balance of the sweet meringue with the tart lemon mousse.

Arome bakery room's Purple sweet potato tart

Arome Bakery (Kwun Tong)
Arome bakery has launched the new Okinawa purple potato series.
Previously I tried the Okinawa purple potato roll which was a chocolate swiss rolls covered with sweet potato puree filled with cream.
(please see link below for that review)

This time I had some time to kill before a tasting so got the Okinawa purple potato tart.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Okinawa purple potato tart:

The tart costs $20 which is $4 more than the roll.

It is held in a paper tray which is convenient and luckily ABR can provide you with plastic forks if you want to eat it right away.

Inside the tart, there was chocolate cake and cream just like the roll.
Again, it was delicious and there was more sweet potato puree compared to the roll so if you like the sweet potato this would be a better choice but if you don't like the tart base then you should get the roll and its cheaper.
The chocolate cake and sweet potato tasted really good together because it was not too sweet and the sweet potato was velvety and had a natrual taste.

The tart base is basically their usual tart base that they use for tarts which was buttery just like shortbread.
In conclusion, I prefer the roll because I don't like the tart base and it has a better ratio of chocolate roll and sweet potato.

Okinawa purple potato swiss roll

Arome Bakery
The new Okinawa purple potato series looked really nice.

The cake and tart looked captivating but a whole cake was too much for me so I got the roll.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Okinawa purple potato roll:

On the top of the roll, it was covered with purple sweet potato puree and two pistachio nuts.
I was impressed that they put a sturdy card at the bottom of the bag so that when you carry it the cake does not stick to the bag.

It was a chocolate roll filled with cream and more purple sweet potato puree.
I loved this cake because the chocolate rolls was moist and chocolately without being too sweet complemented by the purple sweet potato puree which surprisingly tasted good together.
The sweet potato puree was velvety and not too starchy which was made lighter with the foamy whipped cream in the middle.
As a whole, it was a good balance of chocolate cake, cream and potato puree.

Japanese cheesecakes made with award winning cheeses

Arome bakery has launched a new cheesecake series made with cheese from Japan.
What makes the cheeses so special is that they come from Hanabatake Farm, and each of the cheeses are award winners from the 「ALL JAPAN Natural Cheese Contest」.

The two cheeses used in the cheesecakes are:
raclette cheese
- Awarded as the No 1 cheese in Japan in the 「ALL JAPAN Natural Cheese Contest」.
camembert cheese
- Awarded as the Premium cheese in Japan in the 「ALL JAPAN Natural Cheese Contest」.

There are three cheesecakes in the range:
raclette cheesecake, souffle cheesecake, and sponge cheesecake.

There is bound to be a cheesecake for everyone because when the bloggers voted for their favourites, each cheesecake had a fair distribution of people who liked it.
My favourite would be the Raclette cheesecake because it tastes like Western cheesecakes and the second favourite would be the sponge cheesecake which has a cakey texture.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Raclette cheesecake 濃烤芝士蛋糕:
(made with raclette cheese)

This was my favourite because it had a savoury layer of grilled raclette cheese on top and it was dense and mildly crumbly just how it should be.
There was a hint of lemon in it too which tasted like UK's Marks and Spencers lemon cheesecake.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Souffle cheesecake 日式梳乎厘芝士蛋糕:
(made with camembert cheese)

Hong Kongers are going to like this because in general they prefer Japanese food and the texture of this is light, soft and very crumbly because it did not hold together well.
It was my least favourite because the taste was rather buttery and I prefer a more hearty Western style cheesecake like the raclette cheesecake above.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sponge cheesecake 海綿芝士蛋糕:
(made with camembert cheese)

For beginners to cheesecakes, they can try this because the taste of cheese is extremely light and the texture is just like a mildy dense moist cake.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
As well as the cheesecakes, there is also the hojicha caramel cheesecake 焙じ茶焦糖 which is going to be launched soon made with award winning Fresh caramel, awarded the Grand golden award by Monde Selection for three consecutive years since 2011.
Although I have not tried this yet, but I think it should taste nice because caramel can't go wrong.

Hokkaido green tea latte @ Arome Bakery

Arome Bakery Room 東海堂 (Admiralty)
After trying most of their drinks, Hokkaido green tea latte was the last one in the series to try.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Hokkaido green tea latte:

The taste of this was bit too bitter for my liking and it was too grassy compared to other green teas.

Back for more drinks and cakes @ arome Bake & Drink

arome Bake & Drink 東海堂 (Kowloon Bay)
Previously had a tasting at this branch and when we left, we were given some coupons to get two complimentary drinks and a cake from their newly launched series at this branch only.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chocolate pudding drink:

On this visit, the chocolate tasted quite powdery but the pudding on the bottom was delicious and eggy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Apple drink with jelly:

Tried this drink because Ivy said that it tasted like Heinz baby apple juice drink.
The acidity was low so it wasnt very sour, and it tasted like sweetened cooked apple puree.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
New drink - kanten jelly and green jasmine tea:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Jasmine tea and croissant set for $15:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Melon cake:

The sweetness was just right and the jelly was not too sweet and I appreciated how the standard of this cake has remained the same as the tasting a few months ago.
The pieces of melon were mushy and soft which worked with the type of jelly they used.
In the middle, there was delicious cake and cream to balance it out.
