My picks at Wine and Dine 2018

Wine and Dine is bigger and better this year that it now has different sections.
Hotel Delicious, Feedme Lane, Coffee Fiesta etc.

I was impressed with the creativity and variety this year.

First stop was salted egg chicken drumsticks with a Singaporean twist coated with oats from City Garden Hotel Hong Kong 城市花園酒店.

Second stop Appendix Coffee & Bar, the N2 Earl Grey really hit the spot as I was hot and bothered.
Lightly sweetened Earl Grey with a silky foam cap and last but not least was the Taiwanese messy bun inspired coffee.

In the bakery section, my fave bakery Say Hey Bakery 四喜麵包西餅was there with a unique beetroot quiche, La Mer Restaurant & Loungehad this interesting salted egg duck tart and Fast Gourmet had exclusive alcoholic lava croissants like pina colada.

For filling dishes Westwood Carvery had prime rib sandwiches and uni pasta.

The Drunken Pot 酒鍋 was also here, no hotpots there but they had cute skewers.
I had the spicy trio which had all my favourites: ducks blood, fish maw and stinky tofu.

Last but not least, I love Indian food so had the Kathi veggie roll from Gaylord.

Make sure you don't miss the drones display.

Black truffle and mushroom quiche

Previously Pacific Coffee only had two quiches but now they have quite a few flavours.

Tried the Black truffle and mushroom quiche.

The truffle taste was evidently truffle essence and the mushrooms were disappointing because they put Asian Shitaake mushrooms and enoki mushrooms.

Improved salmon quiche at 2/3 Dolci

There were not many food options at Quarry bay, so decided to get food from Dolci.

Previously tried the salmon quiche at the Central branch so got it again.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Salmon quiche:

The size of the quiche was bigger than the previous ones.

In the middle, there was a slice of salmon.
The quiche had a nice eggy taste with a cheesy top layer.

Al fresco place to have French food

I was early for a tasting at Gin Sai when I spotted this shop across the road.
They have a branch in Sheung Wan, but this branch is better because it has a wide range of baguettes, quiches and soup.

It was after 6pm so all their food was at reduced price and I got a baguette with brie and lettuce for $26 which was a bargain.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Brie and lettuce baguette:

The baguette was really good because there were so many slices of Brie which was creamy and soft but unfortunately the baguette was too hard and chewy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Ham and cheese quiche:

Nice wooden knife and fork!

The quiche looked weird, it was as thin as a pizza and the cheese on topped was brown.
I felt like I was eating pizza because of the grilled cheese on top and how thin it was.

Delicious afternoon quiche tea set

O delice! is a relatively new French joint in town serving crepes and waffles.

They are always busy which means their food is good.

I managed to get there during Tea Time so I tried their Bacon and Mushroom quiche which is new.

They had crepes as an option for tea too.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Bacon and mushroom quiche:

I was super glad I chose the quiche because it was REALLY cheesy, I liked the browned cheese surface on top which was really nice and there was more cheese in the quiche filling as well.
The quiche pastry was also cheesy.
Normally I don't like bacon quiches but the bacon pieces were lean and meaty which was delicious with the eggy cheese filling in the quiche.
The salad on the side was also good because of the refreshing balsamic dressing that was not sweet like other places.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Earl Grey:

The tea they served was Twinning's Earl Grey tea.

Quiche of the month: mushroom and broccoli

I was checking out the new joint opposite which was why I was on this street.

La Rotisserie happened to have the mushroom and broccoli quiche which I haven't tried before so decided to get it.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mushroom and broccoli quiche:

The quiche had lots of mushrooms and broccoli but the taste was a bit bland and it lacked a cheesy taste.

New secret hideout in central

A while ago I stumbled upon this new branch of Dolci 2/3 when I went to Holly Brown.

It was going to open that day but as I was busy I came back another day.

A few days later, I had a tasting in central, so the new branch was a perfect place to have a drink beforehand.

Although Dolci is famous for gelatos and cakes, they had pies and quiches.

quiches and pies
There are sandwiches if you need something more filling.

Baguettes
For the gelatos, they had 14 choices to choose from!!!

14 flavours!!!!!
A lovely tea selection.

Artisan teas

Salmon quiche $30:

The salmon quiche was really good because the thickness of the pastry was just right.
I loved the hints of cheese and chunky pieces of salmon embedded in the quiche.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Pistachio florentine:

Made with 66% French chocolate, pistachios and crunchy caramel.
This was divine, you could see there was so much pistachio in it and some crunchy caramel that held it together coated in chocolate.
It was like eating a lovely pistachio brittle and each element did not over power each other.
The texture and taste of the caramel was really nice because it was crunchy with a roasted taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Earl grey tea:

To finish off I had my favourite Earl grey tea which had loose leaves in the teabag that give it that rich earthy aromatic taste.

UN grand marché dans Une petite boutique

Flavour (Sheung Wan)
G/F, 18 Possession Street, Sheung Wan

I have always wanted to come here but couldn't find it.
Fate brought me here again after spate of French meals recently.

Anyway went in and discovered it was a mini French grocery shop selling cheeses, baguettes and you can even order food and dine there.

The chewing gum that you can buy in France can be bought here!!

Huge selection of quiches, cheeses, hams, drinks and desserts~

Quiches galore!!

For food, the meals not including drinks or soups were about $55-65 which is an amazingly deal compared to other French dos.

While I sat there, there were so many French expats coming and going for French groceries.
The hot seller were the baguettes and cheeses which is their staple food!

NOW YOU SEE IT

NOW YOU DON'T!! Gone within 10 minutes!~

The owner is really NICE and GOOD LOOKING just as the review says~~

Here was what I had!!

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fish in creamy white sauce:

The fish was succulent and flakey covered in creamy sauce.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Spinach and feta quiche:

The quiche selection was annoying because there were too many to choose from and the size of each quiche was HUGE!! About the size of a brick!!
It was loaded with spinach and flavoured by the cheesy crumbly feta.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fries:

The fries were a bit disappointing because they were not French. The ones I had in France are much thinner and freshly cut to be fried.
These were just the usual chips!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Moule frites:

The mussels were meant to be paired with fries but I had them with a baguette.
It was a huge portion and the sauce was generous too.
Although the mussels tasted like they were frozen ones, the way it was cooked made it taste like it was half fresh and the sauce was really nice because there was white wine, finely diced onions and herbs.
After finishing the mussels, the sauce was just amazing with the baguette.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
chicken leg in red wine sauce:

The chicken in red wine sauce was also good, it was well marinated that the chicken skin and chicken beneath it was full of flavour.
The sauce was lovely and rich, perfect with the rice they served.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Nougat glace:

The nougat icecream tasted like frozen whipped cream with nuts in it.
It was really affordable too compared to other French restaurants.
