Valentino brownies

Valentino Chocolatier Hong Kong (Wan Chai)
Thanks to Agnes for getting me these brownies.

There are two in a pack.

Valentino is a chocolatier in Hong Kong that sells European goods such as olive oils, hams as well as chocolates.
The last time I went to Valentino's was at their Sai Kung branch.

Valentino Brownies:
The brownie was dense and rich with some nuts.
It was not too sweet.
If it was warmed up and accompanied with custard or whipped cream, it would have been perfect.

Chocolate thunder @ Outback Steakhouse

Came here to spend the afternoon, not many people here, so ordered the Chocolate thunder.

Looking deadly sickly on the picture, it tasted nothing like that.
The warm moist cake was mixed in with nuts, giving it a lovely nutty texture, and with the chocolate sauce, ice-cream, and cream, it tasted heavenly, not sickly at all.

The best chocolate brownie in town.

Laksa @ 巴沙新加坡小品 Pasar Singaporean Flavour

A pricey menu, but quality is close enough to Katong.

Information wise, I prefer Katong’s menu as its more informative and lists out all the ingredients, so for Pasar, if you’re an experienced eater or know your Singaporean food, then you would roughly know what ingredients are in it, eg seafood Laksa, the basics are big prawns, fish cakes etc.

Anyway for the Laksa supreme, for $68 everything is the same as Katong, except the mung noodles are thinner in diameter, and the soup base is not so spicy and strong. So for those who want to try a good Laksa, which is not so spicy can come here. There is less chilli oil in the soup base too.

Laksa @ 蝦麵店 Prawn Noodle Shop

Basically after trying the prawn noodles, my next item to try here is the Laksa, not spicy at all, the soup is very strong in coconut flavour, but not as rich as the other places.

Noodle wise, I think only the "Mung" noodles can bring out the taste of the Prawn noodles and the laksa, because the ho fun and vermicelli itself over powers the soup here, since it isnt very strong.

ROCCA bakery part 2: Johnston Road

Discovered Rocca in the middle of a market. On the way leaving the market, I saw some cakes being brought over to Rocca, so there must be another cake shop nearby, it turned out to be another Rocca branch.

Basically the range is the same as the other branch, except the shop is slightly smaller, they had mini ring donuts topped with colourful icing, but they were sold out the next day.
As well as sweet items, they also do local bakery too at an affordable price.

I just got the chocolate cup, mini muffins and a piece of chocolate fudge.

The chocolate cup was basically blackforest in a cup, layers of chocolate mousse, jelly, crunchy chocolate, and a cherry on top with a piece of edible gold flake.
The cherry on top was heavily soaked in alcohol, liquor like.

The mini muffins were cute too, there were three flavours, chocolate chip, blueberry and wheat.
There are normal size versions too, but the mini ones cost 3.5 each.
The wheat one has a strong taste of cinnamon.

As for the chocolate fudge, it costs $9 and for the one with nuts it costs $10, I chose the plain one to try, the woman at Rocca kept saying the texture was like praline, that melts in your mouth.
It was slightly like that, and the best thing was that it was not too sweet, however its texture reminded me of the vegetarian cakes that do not contain egg.
The chocolate fudges were individually wrapped in opaque crisp packet, so it was like unwrapping a gift.

The shop is decorated quite nice, as good as C Bakery opposite, but the bakery products are not as expensive. Along the Johnston Road area, there is quite a wide range for bakery lately with C bakery and Pomme, and now the addition of Rocca and Ginger Bakery.

KFC's midnight feast

Had not had a midnight feast in ages, so decided to get the KFC snack combo and the chocolate brownies.

I expected the delivery to take a long time which was part of the plan of having a late night feast!

Anyway, the fried snacks arrived with two sauces: a white one and tomato ketchup, the white one was the sauce used in the chciken burgers.
The snack combo was part of KFC's Christmas snack combo and only available on the delivery menu.

A midnight feast is a British kids thing having a food feast late at night eaten in secret, well not a secret anymore as I have already disclosed it on Openrice!
So go on have fun and be rebellious!

Crispy shrimp and Cheesy roll
Crispy shrimp:
This was basically fried shrimp coated in cutlet, as well as cutlet on the outside, there was an extra layer of grounded prawn in between the prawn and the cutlet.
Cheesy roll:
I was expecting it to be plain cheese inside, but indeed the description was correct, it was surimi meat roll filled with cheese.
Although the crispy shrimp and cheese roll were not crispy by the time it was delivered, it still tasted nice.
Both were nice dipped with ketchup, but I would have preferred lemon with the shrimps.

Chocolate brownies
Basically it was chocolate brownies deep fried, it was too dry for my liking.

A different perspective of American cookies

Every time when I walk past Mrs Fields, there is a sweet smell lingering in the air.
It’s one of those shops that have been around for ages so there is no urgency in trying it and there are many branches around.

I never stopped by because they specialise in cookies and I didn’t know that American and British Cookies were different.

I have never liked cookies, because British cookies are just like hard biscuits.
But the American ones are so much different, not only are they bigger in size, they are soft and chewy!!!

Mrs Fields specialises in cookies, brownies and muffins.

As well as the cookies the muffins were also different, the British ones are disc shaped and the Americans are like cup cakes.
Muffins are nice, but I have always found them messy to eat, the top of the muffin would be hard, and the muffin beneath would just crumble.

In the end I decided to try the brownies which were so nice that I ended up trying their other products and I was addicted.

For the muffins, some flavours are only available on the even days of the week ie Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and the other flavours available on the odd days ie Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Brownies:
Amazingly rich and silky with intense cocoa taste.
There are three flavours: chocolate chip, chocolate fudge and double chocolate
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Butter muffin:
The flour mixture had a strong taste but did not over power the buttery taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Apple and cinammon muffin:
This is one of my favourite muffins because there is so much cinammon and sugar on top which is crunchy.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cherry muffin $14
Same as the apricot, it is is also available on even days.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Macadamia cookie:
There was generous pieces of macadamia nuts in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cream cheese ring cake
The cake was really rich with pieces of cream cheese in it.
It was more of chocolate cake than cheese.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Premium cup cake
This was quite dense and the size was smaller than the muffin.
