Consistently delicious vegetarian rolls at sooo vegi

Came here for a quick fix before the Durian tasting event held by openrice.
Since my last visit, Sooo Vegi has had so many interviews with the media.

I had the rolls because it was hard eating hot food in the hot weather outside.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mexican roll:

The roll was wrapped with avocado, vegetarian meat sauce, kidney beans, purple onions, sour cream and tomato sauce.
It was consistently delicious as the first time I tried it because it was packed with flavours.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
American roll:

The roll had a vegetarian frank which tasted like the normal ones and there was coleslaw which was refreshing and gave it a nice crunch.

Sooooooooo Veganlicious

Sooo Vegi (North Point)

Walked past and saw this new shop serving vegetarian food, so stopped by for dinner.

For some reason it reminded me of Veggie Spinner at Tai Hang because they were both decorated with green.

When I looked at the menu, they had Turkish rolls just like Veggie Spinner which was why I got confused.

As well as rolls, they had pastas and Chinese dishes.

I opted for Chinese food and came back another day for the Western choices.
The Chinese choice was really good because they were popular dishes such as spicy tofu with minced meat and aubergines with salted fish but in vegetarian form.
I love these dishes but I rarely have them because real meat stinks!

The prices were really affordable, just the same as the prices at Chinese cha chaan tengs and the wraps were only $28 each.

Here was what I had over two visits:
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stewed Aubergines and salted fish with rice (VEGAN):

The aubergines were paired with healthy mixed grain rice.
I really enjoyed this dish because it was meat free and healthy, the dish is not as oily as the meat version and the aubergines were nice and soft with the taste as good as the meat version.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Soup:

This was soup with Lion's Mane Mushroom, walnuts and black eye beans.
I wish the taste was stronger because it lacked the taste of mushroom but the bean taste was strong enough.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fried three treasures:

This appetizer was really cool because I have never seen a vegetarian version.
There were aubergines, mushrooms and green peppers.
My favourites were the mushrooms and green peppers which tasted meaty with the vegetarian meat substitute.
It was a bit oily for my liking but if they had the sweet sauces, I could have been fooled to think I was eating the meat version.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mexican wrap:

The roll was wrapped with avocado, vegetarian meat sauce, kidney beans, purple onions, sour cream and tomato sauce.
The roll was not spicy which was good and it was so delicious because it had kidney beans in rich sauce and creamy avocado along with crunchy vegetables.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Buffalo wrap:

The roll was wrapped with vegetarian chicken, sweetcorn, purple cabbage, celery, mixed veg, buffalo spicy sauce and ranch dressing.
This roll was also delicious, it had a nice sour tone to it which makes you even more hungry but the sweetcorn in it gives it a burst of sweetness while the carrots gives it a crunch.
Both rolls were beautifully wrapped.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

Next time I am going to try the sausage wrap and other Chinese dishes which are guaranteed to be less oily than meat dishes.

Thanksgiving turkey burro

Little Burro (Causeway Bay)

During 24th-30th November 2013, Little Burro served a special Thanksgiving Burrito!
Previously they did a really good one for Halloween 2013 which was why I went back to try the Thanksgiving one.

The Thanksgiving Burrito is a burrito filled with Turkey meat slow-cooked with tequila and Mexican beer, dressed with a bourbon-spiked chilli cranberry jam!
The burrito is made to 600g just like their previous Halloween boo-rrito.

On this visit, I sat at their back yard which is nicely decorated with graffiti.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Thanksgiving Burrito:

Before I tried it, you could visually see lots of turkey in the middle.

After trying it, I was quite disappointed because the turkey was dry and tasteless and there was too much turkey.

I could not even taste the tequilla or cranberry.

It would have been great if they mixed all the ingredients before making the roll so then all the ingredients would have an even taste with the beans and salad evenly distributed.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Water:

Since my last visit, it is good to see that they have refilled the bottles of water and have cups available for people to use.

The best Hot Wraps from Pret A Manger

Pret A Manger
I wish I knew about these Hot Wraps before because they were friggin delicious.

There is a narrow heated cabinet with these hot wraps which is why I didn't really notice them before.

There are four flavours in Hong Kong:
Barbecue Pulled Pork Hot Wrap
Salmon Fish Cake Hot Wrap
Sweet Potato Falafel Hot Wrap
Pret's Meatball Hot Wrap

In UK they have:
BBQ Pulled Pork Hot Wrap
Swedish Meatball Hot Wrap

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sweet Potato Falafel Hot Wrap:
(Falafel, emmenthal, pepper, onion, chili tomato sauce)

These wraps are seriously hot when you take them from the tray.
After unwrapping it, the smell was gorgeous, it smelt of Tex Mex chili con carne.

The wrap was slightly crispy and chewy and the filling was deliciously hot with starchy beans and falafel.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Salmon Fish Cake Hot Wrap:
(salmon, potato mash, soya bean, emmenthal, red onions, honey mustard mayo)

This wrap was also impressive because there was delicious creamy mashed potatoes in the middle with stringy emmenthal cheese.

Along with that, there were chunks of flakey salmon.

Each bite was delicious because the tangy honey mustard sauce complemented the salmon and balanced the creamy mash perfectly.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Both of the wraps above are irrititingly delicious and addictive!

Scrumptious wraps with Zaatar

MANA! Fast Slow Food (Central)
After having some crappy Chinese noodles that were not really edible, I came here for some healthier food.

Simple menu for the flatbreads:

Delicious fillings for the flatbread

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Mana Classic:

I decided to try the classic because it has Zaatar in it and opted for extra hummous in the wrap too.

When the wrap came, it was lovely and warm, filled with hummous and Zaatar.

The wrap was delicious because the Zaatar spices were fragrant and the hummous was filling and nutritious.
Zaatar is made with dried Thyme, dried Sumac, Sesame Seeds and Sea Salt.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fries with garlicnaise sauce:

The fries tasted great on its own without sauce, it had a strong potato taste with a natrual sweet aftertaste and it had lovely crisp potato skin.

I chose garlicnaise because I wanted to try this sauce, but tomato would have been better because the dip did not match the fries that well.

Interesting finds:

Zaatar for sale!

Pink Himalayan salt!

Hong Kong's McDonalds: Rice Fun Wrap [Chicken]

McDonald's (Central)

PLEASE NOTE: This is not a tasting, I paid $25 with a Newspaper coupon.
I was not on the list for the tasting event!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
After trying the Beef Rice Fun Bowl, I was back to try the Rice Fun Wrap!!!

Review of Beef Rice Fun Bowl:http://supersupergirl.openrice.com/home/reviews.htm#review2293874
(The rice was nice but I would have preferred a better sauce eg curry or black pepper).

I had more faith with the wrap because I have tried the rice burger before and I loved it, so I expected it to be similar but wrapped in tortilla with chicken.

There was a choice of beef or chicken and I chose chicken because it was a crispy chicken patty and I figured I would not like the beef because the sauce for that is sweet.
McWraps are common in other countries and I really want to try the Indian Wrap because it has deep fried cheese in it called the McPaneer wrap with Paneer meaning cheese.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Rice Fun Wrap [Chicken]:The wrap comes packaged like this!

You eat the wrap by tearing the strip in the middle so that the wrap is still covered on the bottom half.
Again there is a possible option for future flavours or maybe vegetarian if people do not each chicken or beef.

For photo purposes I opened the top end to take a photo of the wrap.

I took a bite and there was a rice patty, lettuce and cucumber inside which was delicious, especially the flavoured rice patty.

In the middle there was some spicy mayonnaise sauce inside which was sweet and spicy.
The spicyness is similar to the spicyness of their chicken wings.

However when you eat it, the sauce sinks to the bottom due to gravity, so the tastes gets stronger and stronger!

Chicken wraps @ KFC

Tried both flavours of the wraps, the chicken strip one, and the sausage one.

Chicken wrap fillings: piece of chicken, egg, mayonnaise, tomato, soft tortilla wrap.
Tasted OK
Sausage wrap fillings: sausage, egg, mayonnaise, shredded chicken floss
I didn’t really like this one, as the chicken floss tasted like pork floss, very sweet, which is weird with the egg and the rest of the ingredients.

Strawberry fool @ Pret A Manger

Everytime I get food from here, I have my favourites, the strawberry fool, a thick and light yoghurt with chunks of strawberry and rhubarb in it. Then the sandwiches are also good, but this time I had a wrap.

I had the California crayfish wrap, filled wasabi mayonnaise, lemon juice, rocket lettices and crayfish, and in between the wrap, there was a piece of laver too, so it made it a bit like sushi.

Lastly I had chili con carne soup, not very spicy, but tasted how it should be.

Great work Amigo

I was attracted to the Taco truck ever since I saw photos of it, in general the comments on the food were good, so even more a bonus.

The Mexican food that I had before was Chili con carne and food from Agave, both were good and this place is conveniently located near the MTR so I decided to give it a visit.
Yo Bago is also in Quarry Bay, but you have to walk slightly further, so its still on my visit list.

Anyway, weather conditions that day were not that good, it was raining and slightly windy, which made it a bit difficult for finger food despite we were under a shelter already. But more preferable to eat there now than in the scorching summer. Although if it was hotter and there were people nearby playing the guitar it would probably feel like Mexico.

The décor was really good, like the taco trucks in the US, there was a Mexican hat and a colourful paper horse on the ceiling.

Ordered two tacos, grilled fish and the fried fish one, both with flour wraps, chicken sopes, and a burrito with beef.
All of them came with chili sauce except the Sope, which came with tomato sauce.
For drinks, ordered the horchata.

The tacos were really good, the wrap was thin and chewy, I preferred it slightly tougher so it wouldn’t break when I ate it. The grilled fish was moist compared to the fried fish, however I liked the fried fish more, it was nicely fried, and the oil was fresh, and there was some crunch to it like light tempura.

The chili sauce they provided was excellent, not the typical chili sauce you find in hong kong, but a watery one made, same as this excellent chili sauce I had at PFC in UK.
As well as chili, there was lemon, so the taste was tangy and hot.

The chicken sope was a bit different to what I was expecting, because the dough was meant to be soaked in lime, but I couldn’t taste any lime at all. It was slightly messy eating it too, but still good, this came with watery tomato sauce too.

Finally the burrito was nice and filling too, and was perfected by the sauces too.

The Horchata was astonishingly good, as well as the taste, it brought back the taste of some baby food I had before. The taste was slightly starchy, with hints of wheat, and then cinnamon.

It would be great if they had more seafood such as prawns, octopus tentacles, calamari's that would go nicely with their chili and lemon.
