English and Scottish culinary battle at Yorkshire pudding

On 18 Sept, the Scottish referendum will take place in which they will fight for independence away from United Kingdom.

In the run up to this, Yorkshire pudding will hold a culinary battle featuring the best of English and Scottish food from 1 - 30 Sept .

There are two menus to choose from:

As a Brit, I am definitely tempted to choose the English menu, BUT you don't often see Scottish food being served at the Yorkshire pudding so I chose the Scottish food menu.

Some people chose the English food menu, hence the photos.

English Menu:
Prawn cocktail

Oysters

Fish and chips

Roast beef and Yorkshire pudding

Eton mess

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Scottish menu:
smoked salmon carpaccio and scotch quail egg

Scallops and black pudding

Dundee fruit cake

Chocolate shortbread

Sheepshaggers gold!

As a summary, the fish and chips were seriously good because the chips were crispy with a silky starchy middle drenched with lots of malt vinegar.
For the Scottish menu, I loved the salmon and the cute quail scotch eggs, followed by the always delicious black pudding.
I finished off with the Dundee fruit cake which tasted like a lighter version of Christmas pudding without the orange peel.

Mini Yorkshire puddings at Yorkshire pudding

Categories :British | Western Restaurant

Although this place is heavily decorated in a British theme serving my favourite Yorkshire puddings, it failed to make it on my priority list.
This restaurant reminded me of Limehouse in WanChai.

I only tried it because I was at a tasting nearby.

I ordered the mini Yorkshire puddings.

Mini Yorkshire puddings:

When it came I was surprised there were four of them.
They were very crispy and reminded me of BLT's popovers.

The taste was slightly disappointing because they did not taste as good as the Yorkshire puddings at Delaneys and the gravy did not taste meaty enough.

The yorkshire puddings were too eggy and not as yeasty and chewy as the ones at Delaneys.
There was not enough gravy to finish off the Yorkshire puddings.

Sunday roast everyday @ Delaneys

This is my regular stop for sunday lunch any day, roast meat/poultry sliced for you at the carvery.

The roast includes a soup/salad, and a drink. The salad is self service, at the salad bar, ranging from unpickled beetroot to potato salad.

As for the roast, it has to be collected yourself, but you can pick and have what ever vegetable you want.
The roast I had that day was turkey, and requested for a yorkshire pudding too, and lots of gravy.
