Black forest is always my favourite cake because of cherries and chocolate.
At Maxim's, they have launched a luxury version of the black forest cake called 【La ForĂȘt-Noire】.
There are two sizes, the big one which weighs 1lb ($218) and a smaller one ($128).
*** Please note that the cherries on top may be replaced with other berries due to seasonal availability.***
To match the black forest cake, they have a specially designed box for it.
The cake is covered in thin chocolate pieces and garnished with a layer of cream and fresh cherries on top.
The cake contains French chocolate with a layer of Bavarois cream in the middle, and cherries soaked in wine.
There were layers of delicious chocolate cake in between.
It was such a delicious cake with all these layers with juicy alcoholic cherries, cream and Bavarois cream which tasted a bit like custard.
If the cake is too much for your sweet tooth, there is also a dessert version.

The best blackforest cake in Hong Kong
Vanilla (Mid-Levels)
Found out about this bakery because I was at a restaurant nearby.
It would be hard discovering this bakery on openrice because there were not many recent reviews even though this place has been here for YEARS!!
They had a good selection of British pies, quiches and cakes.
The one that caught my eye was the blackforest cake.

Blackforest cake:
After removing the plastic sheet that was around the cake, I knew I made the right choice choosing it!
As well as the cherry on top, you could see whole cherries in the middle.
There were at least NINE WHOLE cherries in this cake! (Money well worth spent already and this cake was only $34)
The price of this cake was extremely reasonable too compared to other crappy local cakes which only give you chopped cherries and cheap cream.
As well as that the chocolate shavings on top were amazing because they were NANO thin and melts in your mouth. They were as soft as snowflakes.
The cake as a whole was delicious, the chocolate sponge was light and the cream was deliciously fresh whipped cream guaranteed with a juicy cherry in each bite because there were so many cherries in this cake!
I'll be back!
Best of the British.

black forest cake @ McCafe
I got my lovely black forest cake, which always tastes consistently good with appropriate amounts of cherry in the cream. The grated chocolate is not too much or less.
To finish it off, I got the Mocchochino with a frothy foaming top.

Black forest roll @ Sakurashima Bakery
Felt like something sweet, so just got a cheap $5 chocolate roll from this place, they also had the black forest cake at $6 which was very cheap, but considering I didn’t like the white chocolate shavings on top and they didn’t even have a box to put theses cakes unless you bought a dozen, I got the chocolate roll which was the same as the black forest cake.
The location is very annoying too, located near the butchers and fishmongers, it is a bit hard to carry delicate bakery amongst slow walking housewives and people with kids.
Anyway, the roll was big and cheap, the sponge was ok, not that chocolatey.
The cream inside was the usual fake stuff, embedded with diced blackcurrant jelly.
It tasted ok, but then there was this crunch and I realised it was pieces of egg shell.
So I suppose, I can confirm 100% it contained egg.

Blueberry egg shell cake @ Pak Kut See
I saw this blueberry cake after I bought the chocolate forest roll from Sakurashima Bakery.
As mentioned previously the chocolate roll contained eggshell pieces, I didn’t take any pictures because I ate it whilst walking.
The blueberry cake looked more like cranberry, pink in colour.
The cake tasted ok, but as with all Chinese cakes, it was spoilt by the signature Chinese salted cream.
I would have preferred plain cream or simply slightly sweetened cream.
The texture of the cake was a bit flat, not light or springy at all.
Overall I liked the cake, but felt put off after finding eggshell.
Anyway I can't believe over two consecutive days, I found eggshells in my cake and from two totally different bakeries!!
***************************
What are the chances of finding eggshell in a cake from shop 1, and then the next day finding eggshell in a cake from shop 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ordered the savoury set for two which consists of:
Tuna and fresh mache pave
Lobster sandwich flavoured with tarragon
Premium ham with mustard seed sandwich
Norwegian smoked salmon and caviar sandwich
Lemon & raisin scones with Devonshire clotted cream and strawberry jam
coffee and tea for $238
All the sandwiches were presented exisquitely and they all tasted great.
The only thing that spolt it was the jam, it had rose in it as well which made me dizzy.
