[Review] The Mac Factory in Putney

Mac and Cheese is a comfort food in the US while we also have mac and cheese in the English cuisine.
There is a debate whether it is English or American.

Anyway, The Mac Factory unites the Brits and the American foodies together as well as mac and cheese lovers.

I attempted to go to TMF at Camden however it was closed but in a way it was good because there is now a new branch at Putney where you get to dine in and prices are cheaper than Camden because of the location.

TMF Putney is on the corner of Putney Exchange mall, it is bright yellow and trendy for the area.
I think TMF would also do well if they had a shop in Brighton.

Mac and Cheese being made:

The menu offers slightly more than the Camden branch with hotdogs, pulled pork buns and their specialty Mac and Cheese.

All Mac and Cheese pots are topped with classic blend of mature cheddar, mozzarella and their signature thyme and Parmesan crumble.
There are six choices for Mac and Cheese, the basic Mac and Cheese pot or modernized Mac and Cheese topped with different toppings as shown on the menu.

Basic Mac and Cheese:

I went for the La Med Babe which has baby Mozzarella, Basil and semi dried tomato.

Overall, it was a nice pot of Mac and Cheese which was quite filling and the crispy bits balances the heaviness of the mac and cheese.
The toppings complement it nicely and glams up the mac and cheese which is obviously why they are a success as you can have Mac and Cheese Italian style, with truffle, with chorizo etc.

Let's see if they will have any Vegan Mac and Cheese for Veganuary which could be a challenge but other places do offer it.

Hofex 2019 Day 1

Organized by UBM, Hofex is bigger and better this year.

I only had time for the 1st and 3rd floor so I shall be returning to the 5th floor tomorrow.

There were so many booths showcasing healthy snacks and foods.

From Australia we have Human Bean Co with these delicious air puffed faba beans which are crispy.
There are so many flavours: salted, salt and vinegar, lime and black pepper and pizza.
Coming from UK, the salt and pepper were my favourite.

Jomeis Fine Foods has a wonderful selection of lattes.
My favourite picks are turmeric, beetroot and minty cocoa which taste good.

Moving on to the UK section, there were quite a lot of finds.

I loved the smoked cheese crackers from The Fine Cheese Co.

There were Stilton and Cheddar crackers as well which are popular in UK and also my favourite cheeses.
Artisan Cheeses that they have.

On the sweets side, I found these Vegan, sugar free & gluten free sweets by Jealous Sweets.

Now to the meat section, we have meatless products and meat.

I am so glad that UK has a meat free option by The Meatless Farm Co as well so there are other options apart from Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat!
I can't wait to cook something soon with the mince and meat free patties.

While I was there, I tried their Chili Con Carne which was so comforting so I hope to get the recipe for that and make it.

In the meat section, there were lots of familiar faces as they are all distributed by the Golden Pig in Hong Kong as well!

My favourite Snowdonia cheeses especially the Black Bomber.

3 wishes in 1 - Tea, Dessert and Vegetarian fare

As well as food, tea is another big thing for me, be it Chinese leaf tea or English tea.
At 2dp, they serve Brewteaful tea, desserts and vegetarian food which all happen to be my thing.

It is a modern Chinese tea house that uses Chinese teas in their icecreams, cakes, bakeries and of course their artisan teas while modern vegetarian food is served on the menu as well.

Vegetarian and Tea menu:

It was good to see blackberries as not many places source them in Hong Kong.
For drinks had the Lavender blackberry tie guan yin, white rose tea and lychee grapefruit white tea.

Anyway, started with some vegetarian bites which were as good as expected.
The tofu bites were tasty and the cheese, potato and leek bites were crispy filled with fluffy potato filling. It was interesting to see it paired with pickled cabbage which reminds me of this Chinese takeaway in UK.

Homemade tofu balls:
 Potato and cheese potato wontons:

For dessert, I managed to scoff more than I expected because they were not sweet at all which is healthy and infused with a fragrant tea taste. The cream horns are a must try because the pastry is soft with a slight chew coated in a sweet glaze filled with fragrant tea custard.

There are two flavours puer tea or tieguanyin.

The teapot cake, again in two flavours was also good because it was tea flavoured mousse with cake layers in the middle, I chose the tiegwanyin apple teapot cake because it was flavoured by refreshing apple puree in the middle.

Finished with the icecream, again there are two flavours. Personally I liked the puer chocolate because the tieguanyin was a bit bitter.

Definitely will be back soon for the vegetarian burgers and breakfasts!~ The HAND DRIPPED TEA is also very interesting.
