North point's hidden dragon @ 四海遊龍鍋貼水餃專門店

This restaurant has been listed in my target list to try, however I have walked past it so many times I have never noticed it.

Firstly its menu is very confusing and from the outside it is hard to see what food they do.

Then recently I faintly noticed it, because they had a poster of snowflake ice, however it still did not draw my attention to look into it further, as the dessert was just an extension to their sets, and the picture still didn’t show me what food they did, so a bit risky to go in and have food because of their dessert. Usually I would do, if the dessert looks very good, but there are many snowflake ice specialists around.

Finally today, as the restaurant I wanted to have dinner was closed, and the weather was hot and sticky, and I was too lazy to walk, I decided to try this place.

The surroundings in the restaurant was very noisy, we sat close to the entrance, so it wasnt much cooler than the outside, also we could smell cigarettes and traffic fumes, perhaps a door would have been helpful???????

When I looked at the menu, I finally realised it was one of the restaurants I wanted to try, so it wasn’t that bad afterall. I wanted to try this place because I have tried 八方雲集鍋貼水餃專門店 at prince edward, and this is just another version of it, however the choice of dumplings are fewer but the ordering list is just as confusing as that one. So I give them credit for copying the ordering sheet with exact complicatedness like that one!

Anyway ordered noodles with soup dumplings, and the Jade pan fried dumplings with noodles (instant noodles from their picture).

The instant noodles was the first to arrive, indeed they were the instant noodles, but flatter in shape and springy in texture, next to arrive was the soup dumplings, good quality meat inside the dumpling, and then the pan fried dumplings came, very crispy, and folded into long retangular dumplings just like 八方雲集 instead of normal cresent shaped ones.

To compliment the dumplings there were four essential sauces on the table, ground garlic puree, chili sauce ( I really liked this concoction, it had whole black beans in it), vinegar and soy sauce.

A successful fusion of tofu pudding and thai drink elements @ 紅果樹

Usually I am against fusion, especially when dishes that do not taste good together are combined for the sake of creating more variety.

This dessert had all the elements I liked: Jaan door (Pandan flour bits), black sugar syrup, tofu pudding, and coconut milk.
It tastes much better than the drink itself, the coconut is not so strong, but balanced out by the tofu, jaan door bits, all these elements are subtle and light, yet brought to life by the black sugar syrup.

I liked the metal spoon, usually these Chinese spoons are ceramic and thick which makes eating difficult, at least with this one you can spoon more and it feels more ergonomic.

The restaurant is relatively small, the decor is quite modern and the English name appealed to me.
It is located conveniently near the MTR station.

Weird but nice! Creamy garlic and black bean sauce

Saw this weird dish so decided to get it.

It was a baked dish.
Usually the Chinese baked dishes are tomato sauce or cheese based with seafood or pork chops.

However this one was garlic and black bean, and usually in Chinese cooking it is in the form of a clear gravy, but the sauce for this dish was creamy!!!! Not like the traditionary clear brown gravy with garlic and black beans.

I assumed it was going to be served in a ceramic dish with the rice beneath the fish, but the rice was served separately and it was plain boiled rice too which is better than fried rice.

The fish was on a bed of vegetables including Aubergine, carrots and potatoes.
The potatoes tasted and looked like English roast potatoes.
Although the baked dish tried to be slightly different to the usual Chinese baked dish, there was still a piece of processed cheese on top.
Without the cheese, it still would have tasted nice.

The sauce was quite nice, it was a bit like gravy with the black bean flavouring, however I would have preferred a stronger black bean taste.
The colour and consistency reminded me of Chinese black pepper steak gravy but without the pepperiness.

At the bottom of the dish there was about a teaspoon of oil.
Lastly the low sugar green tea was too sweet.
Low sugar but super sweet!
