2021 Royals' Deluxe Rice Dumpling Combo at Royal Plaza Hotel!

Evidently the omnipork rice dumpling (zongzi) from Royal Plaza Hotel was really successful last year as
they are doing it again this year.
The Royals' Deluxe rice dumpling combo is really good as you get a mix of vegan, sweet and savory so there is a dumpling for everyone.
I like the fact that they are smaller than the regular size hence this combo is good for small families and they are quicker to steam.

Royals' Deluxe rice dumpling combo:
Glutinous Rice Dumpling with Morel Mushrooms,Chestnut and Omnipork

Traditional and modern rice dumplings from Hang Heung

Hang Heung 恆香老婆餅 is an old school brand where wife cakes come to mind but now they have so many treats to offer like crispy rolls.
For dragon boat festival, they have a range of zongzhi to offer.

Each rice dumpling is individually sealed in its own bag and I love the way it has pictures with English description which makes it expat friendly.
Out of the three I got, the Nyonya rice dumpling is my favourite filled with pork belly, candied bittergourd, mushroom and my favourite fragrant pandan leaf 風味娘惹粽.
The other two are traditionally filled with red bean tangerine peel 陳皮紅豆沙梘水粽 and lotus paste 恆香白蓮蓉梘水粽.
Get now them as there is an early bird discount.

2021 Kee Wah Zongzi!! Dongpo Pork Zhongzi as well as a Vegetarian treasure

It is the time of year when shops are selling Zongzis to celebrate dragon boat festival.

Kee Wah Bakery 奇華餅家 have come up with a variety of creative dumplings especially the braised pork (dongpo pork) with chestnuts dumpling 栗子東坡肉粽 $66 which makes me think of autumn in this hottest time of the year.

The vegetarian Zongzi this year is the Treasury dumpling 八寶粽 (素) $62 which makes me think of treasury congee and tea.

Last but not least is the traditional Chinese and Ham with supreme scallop dumpling 雙黃金華火腿瑤柱裹蒸粽 $132 which is great for sharing.

2020 Nutritious Zongzi combo at Royal Plaza Hotel!

I am sure there are many omnipork zongis around but this is the first year Royal Plaza Hotel has omnipork in the nutritious combo which includes:
-Morel Mushroom, Chestnut and Omnipork
-Matsutake, Dried Longan and Coix seed
-Osmanthus Quinoa and Red bean
The omnipork one is amazing because the pairing of morel mushrooms and chestnut make it tasty as well as festive.

Tried the Matsutake with dried longan and coix seed last year along with the osmanthus quinoa and red bean which are both nourishingly light as well as fulfilling.
The Morel Mushroom with chestnut and ominpork was definitely the star of the show because the flavours of the morel mushrooms which are earthy with a strong umami taste complement the omnipork nicely.
Then we have the nutty chestnuts that are wholesome and festive to add a little sweetness to the taste!

2020 Kee Wah Zongzi!!

It is the time of year when shops are selling Zongzis to celebrate dragon boat festival.

Kee Wah have come up with a variety of creative dumplings especially the duck with fruit peel which reminds me of the duck leg soup with rice!
The vegetarian Zongzi this year has lotus seeds and gingko.

Zongzis are eaten hot so all you have do is boil them for a bit and they are ready to eat.
(To be honest, I put them in the microwave and they come out fine.

Here were the ones I tried.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Braised Duck Leg meat with Mandarin Peel:
Fruit peel and duck are always delicious but taste better in a zongzhi because it is more fulfilling than soup.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Lotus Seeds and gingko:
As well as nutritional lotus seeds and gingko, the quinoa adds fibre to it hence you don't get that guilty feeling when you're having a zongzi!

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Betty’s xo sauce rice dumpling with pork belly:

Glutinous rice, pork belly, xo sauce (garlic, shallot, chinese ham, dried shrimp, red pepper, dried scallop, dried shrimp).
This was my favourite because it was spicy which makes the sticky glutinous rice more appetizing.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Red bean paste with mandarin peel zongzi:
I love the pairing of red bean paste and mandarin peel because the bitterness of the peel balances the sweetness of the red bean paste.
