Goodbye to KFC on Langney Road, Eastbourne

I love KFC and the one I usually go to is the Langney Road branch when I am in town.

Without this, the nearest one would be the drive through which is annoying if you don't drive.

The chicken legs here are moist if you happen to be there at the right time when they have been freshly fried.
The chicken has this lovely stickiness between the skin and the coating which is absolutely delicious and even more divine with extra gravy.
Anyway, sad to see it go and this is probably the beginning as lots more will probably close soon.

[Review] Nandos in Eastbourne

Nandos has been in UK since 1992.
Although they serve Portuguese food, this big chain originates from South Africa.
They started off in West London as a takeaway and began to pop up as a restaurant everywhere in 2013.
You can now find Nandos in most modern gentrified malls, even at old fashioned Eastbourne which got a makeover.

Decided to try the Eastbourne branch so I could compare it to London.
Went there on a weekend evening around 7 before the dinner rush.
Ordered and waited for the food to arrive.

The wait was forever compared to London.
We could see lot of meals were ready at the counter but no one had time or were too busy to bring them over to the diners.
Apart from the wait, food was good with the usual choice of sauces at the bar.

The menu offers more healthy choices than before like vegetables and vegan milk.
For children they also offer Chilly Billy lollies as a dessert treat on the kids menu.

[Little Birdy] Aussie chicks alert!!

My friend told me about this place so I had to go and check it out because I love chicken.

It is slightly different to Roast chicken and potatoes but they had my favourite chips with chicken salt!
They use free range chicken that are hormone free according to their website.

Since this place specializes in chicken, I had to have chicken with chips but they have the Birdy pack which also includes a salad and chips so I got the pack.
For salads, there were so many choices!
The chicken was roasted perfectly and fuss free while the chips were so good with that chicken salt sprinkled on it.

I purposely paired it with the detox salad which is cabbage and carrots.

My friend had the DG's chicken and waffle with additional small Romaine salad.
Small romaine salad:

Finished with the Iced Tea and Lemonade with Cayenne Pepper.

The lemonade was spicier than I imagined.

Plastic straws are not used here which is quite good.
It is good to see another Aussie joint in Hong Kong!

Comforting food at de België

Previously tried Belgica in K Town so I knew the mussels were going to be good here because it is part of the same group.
de België is on the corner of Elgin Street looking small on the outside but spacious once you venture in.

That night, we had a bit of everything because they have other dishes as well as my beloved mussels.

Started with the Tomato aux crevettes and the pulpo a la gallega.
The Tomato aux crevettes were tender translucent shrimps in a delicious dressing encased in a tomato.

The pulpo a la gallega was tasty slices of octopus tentacle on top of new potato slices sprinkled with chili and paprika on a bed of creamy aioli.

It was a great start followed by the mussels.
Again, it was hard to choose because you could choose from mussels cooked in wine, beer etc.
I went for the beer as I was after strong flavours.
It was a huge pot of mussels served with their homemade fries that are fried twice to get that lovely texture.
The mussels were sweet infused with beer and they were free from grit and beard.
While I was eating them I thought I was lucky that the mussels were beard free but later the Chef told me they had removed the beard before cooking you can just enjoy them.

After the mussels, I had the herb roasted chicken.
The chicken was really comforting because it tasted how a roast chicken should taste, ie fully flavoured by the herbs as they were rubbed evenly and it was roasted just right.
The vegetables that came with it were fantastic because they were cooked thoroughly and flavoured in honey, something difficult in HK because the potatoes are normally too hard as the Chefs just grill them to save time.

Had a sweet ending which is hard in Hong Kong because it is really hard to get proper Western desserts.
The Waffle was done just right because it was not too sweet as the sweetness of the cream complemented it nicely and the Chantilly cream was fluffy and airy.
If you drink, I seriously recommend the coconut beer which I tried at the Belgica [other branch]!

McDonalds Hong Kong: Va-Va Vatapa chicken burger

Fell victim to what I thought was a new burger but then discovered I had already had it before in 2014.

I felt that the burger tasted like chicken satay and the crispy coating was exactly the same as the coating that you find in Singaporean style cereal prawns.

The bun was much better and the strong tasting romaine lettuce had more flavour along with the cucumber that it complemented the chicken patty nicely.

It is basically an improved version of the The Samba burger served in June 2014 because they have replaced lettuce with tasty Romaine lettuce.

[Cafe De Coral] Chicken bone feast

I was attracted by the CDC product shot of this golden yellow chicken oil rice with Hainan style chicken but reality didn't turn out that way.

It was weird that it was sprinkled with sesame because there isn't supposed to be sesame on it and I wonder if they put it there deliberately to cover up the bruised chicken!

The rice was the worst because it was white and smelly, not yellow as shown on the product shot.

The remains of the chicken!
