One of the surviving bakeries at Choi Hung

A few years ago, Choi Hung (Pink Shek Estate) was really different but obviously the area is getting revamped to make the value go up.

It is sad for people with relatives who have dementia because they definitely will not be able recognize the place the or the shops.

There are a few still standing but I wonder how long they will last because their second or third generations will probably not want to take carry on the family business.

Anyway, I just went to this shop for fun to look at the old Chinese cakes and decor but ended up getting some chicken biscuits.

They are quite different to the ones at Kee Heung because they are regular in shape and joined together like eggettes so when you eat them you have to separate them.
They were chewy but tastier than Kee Heung because they were not too sweet or salty with a light red beancurd taste.

It was interesting that they had egg tarts with cheese and cream and I wonder if anyone buys them but the owner said Chris Pattern loves them!

Having a midnight burger at Choi Hung's new McD McDonalds

I was pretty hungry after a photoshoot and luckily there was a McDonald's nearby so decided to treat myself to a burger at midnight.

Ordered the filet o fish which is always consistently good provided that they use fresh buns, fresh frying oil etc.

The fish burger was delicious because the filet coating was crispy and the fish was silky with delicious tartar sauce to complement it.

A delight for Choi Hung expats

Subway
If you have been to Choi Hung, there is ABSOLUTELY no Western food about!!

I was so glad to see this open!!!

Interestingly I began to see expats around the area which is a rare sight because I don't often see expats in Choi Hung except locals.

The new Subway is located in the MTR station where QQ Rice used to be near Hang Sang's ATM machines.

Veggie delight:

The sub was a bit annoying because the bread was really sticky as the person who made it obviously had sticky gloves on.
I chose the mustard sauce and the rest in the sub were tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, green peppers, and gherkins.
The sub was delicious as always with the juicy tomatoes and acidic American mustard sauce.

Quality has dropped at 金發車仔麵

金發車仔麵
On my previous visit, the noodles were great so came back again.
The previous review was postive, but this one is negative because the taste is not consistent.

Instant noodles with ox tripe and Chinese radish:

This time the broth was bland and watery and the aniseed was too strong.
The ox tripes were not as soft as before and it was not braised long enough because it was not as tasty as my previous visit.

Fish shaomai:
As I was still hungry I ordered some extra fish shaomai.
I really admired the way, they got a skewer from the steamer and walked over to my table with it dripping on to the floor so I had to either hold when she came over or have it plonked in my bowl of noodles.
Luckily I had finished with the noodles so it was ok to slap it on top of the noodles.
Unfortunately, the fish shaomai were cold and tasted weird.

Cheap and delicious noodles from 金發車仔麵

金發車仔麵 (Choi Hung)

This noodle joint is great but the location is only beneficial to the people who live or work there.

The noodles are CHEAP, it only costs $18 for a bowl of noodles and two items of your choice.
I was tempted to try their pumpkin sago too.

On my first visit, I had instant noodles with fried chicken cutlet and braised beef.

In the summer you are probably going to get food poisoning because they do not heat up the pre-fried chicken cutlet which is just put in that bowl with the hot soup poured over it, same with the other items.

On the second visit, I had instant noodles in sauce without the soup!
But saying that, she puts a whole ladle of sauce in the bowl, so the noodles tastes so much better than the soup one.
This time I chose ox tripe because it is one of the items that are in a heated pot.

The noodles on the second visit were great because the noodles tasted really good in that thick braised beef sauce.
The lady was also quite nice to ask if I wanted to use the sesame oil and broth powder that came with it. {ie Nissin Instant noodles!!!}
To be on the safe side, the braised beef and beef tendons are safe to pick because they are heated but the rest rely on the hot soup to warm it up!
I wonder if I will get food poisoning in the summer!~
