Nissin ramen popup store at LOF10 Bar Dining

As a fan of Nissin noodles, I had to check out the Nissin ramen popup at LOF10 in Causeway Bay where they have decorated the place like a ramen joint with ramen bowls and Nissin figures.

On the menu special, there are four sets to choose from ranging from $88-$108, all including a noodle, dessert and drink.

For me, it is super difficult to decide which one to get but in the end I narrowed it down to the two.
It was either the soup or the one with luncheon meat so I settled for the soup one because of the okra.
The ramen turned out really good because the softness was just right and the broth was good with a poached egg which makes the broth even richer.

For dessert, there was the bubble eggette topped with syrup and rose petals.

Finished with a satisfying latte.

Kiki noodles by celebrity star ShuQi

As well as a restaurant foodie, I am addicted to cup noodles and instant noodles.
Came across these noodles by Taiwanese celebrity star ShuQi which are noodles tossed in sauce.
There are two flavours: Sichuan noodles or Scallion noodles.

Tried both and they were fantastic because you get quality noodles that are served in restaurants and not unhealthy typical instant noodles.

They are too easy to cook, boil until the desired softness and toss the noodles with the sauce provided and they are ready to eat.

Personally I preferred the scallion but the Sichuan one is quite spicy yet fragrant.
It is good how the chili seasoning is in a separate sachet.

These noodles are available at:

Mix and match noodles

Found out about Noodies a few weeks ago because I saw pictures of these pretty purple bowls.
I didn’t know it was owned by a friend until a recent post by Elena Kong (江美儀) which made me visit the place asap!

At Noodies, there are three choices of broth: Laksa, Tom Yum Kung and Pork broth.
The BEST and unique thing here is that you can choose two different types of noodles for an extra $3 more like the way they eat noodles in Singapore but in Singapore they only pair rice vermicelli and egg noodles.
I chose the Laksa broth with a mix of Korean noodles and Shanghai noodles.

It is good that they put the different noodles on different sides.

The Shanghai noodles were thicker in diameter than expected because I thought they were the thin ones and the Korean noodles, which were Korean instant noodles, were yummy because the big curls hang more soup to it.

It was great that I could choose Korean noodles because I am allergic to Korean spices and here they use whatever broth you choose.
I regretted not just getting Korean noodles because they were really nice but then I like this flexibility because you can experiment two different noodles in one go and see which tastes better.
The Laksa broth was quite spicy in my opinion but it was nice.
On another visit, I tried the Tom Yum Kung broth with Shanghai noodles and the broth was quite strong with pungent lemongrass flavouring but the lime was not prominent enough.

Hope to see Buk Kut Teh and Prawn broth soon!

Second visit at 川味皇

This time I requested for the non spicy broth and it was quite nice because the broth just tastes sour.
I also paid extra for the stewed beef but it wasn't that good because it was the odds and ends that were fat and stringy.
Without the spiciness, it lacks that flare so next time I will have the spicy basic noodle.

Food at your convenience

Stopped by because they had my favourite tossed instant noodles in Sichuan spices which is rare because not places will serve it with instant noodles.
To be precise, it was Indomie noodles which are coarse and not that springy.
The noodles were as good as I expected but they also put the Indomie seasoning which made it too sweet. There was alot of grounded meat and preserved vegetables in it as well.

Cheap and delicious noodles from 金發車仔麵

金發車仔麵 (Choi Hung)

This noodle joint is great but the location is only beneficial to the people who live or work there.

The noodles are CHEAP, it only costs $18 for a bowl of noodles and two items of your choice.
I was tempted to try their pumpkin sago too.

On my first visit, I had instant noodles with fried chicken cutlet and braised beef.

In the summer you are probably going to get food poisoning because they do not heat up the pre-fried chicken cutlet which is just put in that bowl with the hot soup poured over it, same with the other items.

On the second visit, I had instant noodles in sauce without the soup!
But saying that, she puts a whole ladle of sauce in the bowl, so the noodles tastes so much better than the soup one.
This time I chose ox tripe because it is one of the items that are in a heated pot.

The noodles on the second visit were great because the noodles tasted really good in that thick braised beef sauce.
The lady was also quite nice to ask if I wanted to use the sesame oil and broth powder that came with it. {ie Nissin Instant noodles!!!}
To be on the safe side, the braised beef and beef tendons are safe to pick because they are heated but the rest rely on the hot soup to warm it up!
I wonder if I will get food poisoning in the summer!~

Noodles @ 新拱照車仔麵

新拱照車仔麵 (Wan Chai)

Came here for some quick instant noodles.

The only bonus of ordering the noodle set was the bottled coke.

Instant noodles with luncheon meat, pork blood jelly:

The noodles were too soft and tasteless, and the blood curds were quite salty.

Another retro eatery

Fook Chun Bo Restaurant (Wan Chai)

At lunch, this place is invisible because there are crowds of people outside and it looks so old and tatty I did not really want to go in.

I finally gave this place a visit on a quiet afternoon.

Inside, everything was old as expected.
The staff were interesting, they had pride and arrogance.

Stir fried instant noodles with baby squids:

When the noodles came, I was impressed because I could not smell that nasty oily which you normally get.
The noodles were perfect and not too soft.
Each strand was fully flavoured with soy sauce with a stir fried taste that was not rancid and there was a good balance of julienne carrots in it.
The baby octopuses were just quick frozen ones so they were slightly tasteless but the overall saltiness of the instant noodles were just right.

Tasting @ Ahu

AHU (Tin Hau)

Previously tried this place and the food was great so when I was invited to the tasting I did not hesitate to go.

At the tasting, we tried all the noodles and some new items:

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sliced pork in spicy sauce (new item):

The pork was evenly sliced with an even fat distribution and the spicy sauce was really nice without being too spicy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried pigs trotters:

The trotters were soft and tasted better than my first visit.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried dumplings:

They were crispy on the outside with delicious minced pork filling that goes well with the pot of spicy vegetables.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Spicy chicken:

The chicken was just as good as the spicy pork slices because it was a similar sauce with peanuts and sesame sprinkled on top.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deep fried squid:

The squid had a lovely crispy coating with some fragrant spices on the outside, a great appetizer to start off with.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Stir fried vegetables:

The vegetables reminded me of Tomyumkung because it had a hint of lemongrass and it was slightly spicy.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Salted egg & Preserved Egg with coriander soup noodles

This was my favourite because it had preserved eggs, salted eggs, vegetables and chunky tofu.
A really healthy and light option.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Assorted meat, mushrooms and vegetables with fresh tomato soup noodles

For tomato lovers, the broth is really nice and appetizing balanced with meat, vegetables and chunks of fresh tomatoes.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sichuan style pickle cabbage beef and chili with soup noodles

The broth was really spicy, good for people who love spicy foods.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
A Hu dumpling, chicken with laksa soup noodles

This was as good as my first visit because the broth was not that spicy and it had a nice prawn taste. The tofu puffs tasted really good after it soaked the broth.
The chicken was nice and tender too.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Deluxe marinated, seasonal vegetables and soup noodles

I liked this one too because the broth had hints of red beancurd.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

In conclusion I would recommend the laksa broth and the Salted egg & Preserved Egg coriander soup.
