Almond this and Almond that! @ Ho Choi Seafood Restaurant

Came with some expats and locals.

The locals did the ordering and ordered a set dinner and a extra lemon chicken.

Nothing really stood out but one of the dishes was visually stunning, it was the fried prawn balls, beside it was a dragonfruit.
I assumed it was fresh fruit but there was dipping sauce inside the dragonfruit for the prawn balls.

The prawn balls were covered in thin slices of almond, but after deep frying the almond was saturated in so much oil.

The Lemon chicken which the expats and I were looking forward to was dissappointing!
We were expecting comfort food, but it was coated in Almonds as well!!!
Never have I had almond coated chicken in the UK before !!

I thought this place was weird serving almond chicken, but after reading other restaurant reviews in Hong Kong, they serve it as well.

But frankly it tastes horrible!

Who is the real manufacturer or is it a JV?

Walked past and saw these packaged puddings exactly the same as the ones at Prince Edwards.
At that moment, I did not realise the name of the shop was different, I just recognised the packaging and the flavours.
The range they sold was exactly the same as the range at Prince Edwards.
As I did not try all the flavours last time at Prince Edwards, I bought the other flavours here.

After I checked Openrice I realised that this shop was called Hop Hing and the one at Prince Edwards is called Dai Kee, but
the range is exactly the same.
However they cost more here and are slightly bigger per slice.
They cost $15 for 3, but at Dai Kee, they cost $4 per slice and you can just buy one if you want.

MIDDLE in the photo
Pumpkin and Custard:
This was quite nice and not too sweet with pieces of pumpkin.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
LEFT in the photo
Almond:
This was my favourite one because it had the lightest taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
RIGHT in the photo
Taro and Sago: This one tasted nice, but its texture made itself the odd one out from the other two I tried.
It was firmer than the other two, and there was more ingredients in it such as taro pieces and sago.
It was the sweetest and had the strongest flavour of the three.

First visit to Hokkaido dairy farm milk restaurant

I have always wanted to try this place but when I went to the Wan Chai branch last year it was closed.
The branch in Wan Chai used to be open during the day, but now they have extended their opening hours.

Anyway I decided to try this branch first.

You order and pay at the counter and they will bring over the food.

There are a bar tables or tables to choose from.
Being my first time here, I found the menu confusing, so in the end ordered the set with scrambled eggs, ham, toast and spaghetti in soup with roast pork.
Although this restaurant is Japanese, I felt it was so Chinese because of the style of the sets with the typical pasta, eggs and toast.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Scrambled egg
The egg was soft and fluffy and not too buttery.
I was really impressed with the egg.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fried egg
They were not as tasty as the scrambled eggs, but they were interesting.
I kept dropping the yolk from the spoon by accident on to the plate because the egg was so slippery, but the yolk membrane was so strong that it did not break!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Ham
The ham tasted fake and the texture was like plastic.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Spaghetti in soup with roast pork:
The soup was really nice and creamy and the roast pork was very Chinese.
The roast pork was quite lean yet soft.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Toast
I liked the toast as well, it was crispy and soft in the middle. The toast had real salted butter spread on it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Sesame oil
It is thick golden brown sesame oil in the bottle. When the lid was opened, the smell of sesame oil was strong.
After applying it to the food, it really enhanced it and there was a lovely sesame oil taste, althought there was a slight bitterness to it.

Hokkaido Dairy experience at Wan Chai

Last time I came, this branch was closed and now they have extended the opening hours so I decided to give it a try.
After dining at the Admiralty branch there were other items I wanted to try.

The ordering style at this branch is different to the Admiralty branch.
You find a seat first and order at the table.
However the setting of this restaurant was not as comfortable as the Admiralty branch.
This time ordered the scrambled eggs with mushroom and the scrambled eggs with tomato set.
The set comes with coffee or tea but you can order drinks that are the same price as the coffee or tea, which they do not tell you.
I only found out because I do not drink HK style tea or coffee so there is no point ordering the set.
In the end I ordered the Almond tea with the set.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Scrambled eggs with tomato
The scrambled egg was nice and the tomato was just tomato puree, however there were pieces of eggshell in the egg.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Scrambled eggs with mushroom
The amount of mushroom was stingy compared to the Admiralty branch.
The mushroom and sauce was extremely nice.
Again found eggshells.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Macaroni
The amount of soup was stingy compared to the Admiralty branch
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Eggshells
Not often served with food, but there were a few pieces in the egg.
It had a very gritty texture, which contrasted the lovely smoothness of the scrambled egg!
If your lucky you might come across some!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Almond tea
I was surprised it was really nice, the sweetness was just right.
There was slight curdling on the surface of the almond tea.
