Chinese teas from Wing Wah

It is interesting to see Traditional Chinese bakeries sell their own teas as well as pastries.

Apart from Wing Wah, Kee Wah has teas too.

Tried the Iron Buddha which came packaged in a nice silver round tin.

The dried tea leaves inside were impressive because they were whole leaves and not brittle tea dust, hence the strong fragrant taste of Iron Buddha.

Saint Honore Cake Shop's 2014 mooncakes

I was given this mooncake so decided to write about.

To be honest, I am not fond of the traditional ones but since I did not eat any this year, I decided to try it.

A nice firm pastry with sweet silky lotus paste contrasted by the salty egg yolk.

Quick dinner with hot tea at Bang Bang Modern Chinese Cuisine

I had to collect some mooncakes in TST so stopped by for dinner.

This restaurant is located at The ONE mall which is near the MTR exit but getting there was troublesome because of the escalators and the way the mall is designed.

The restaurant interior was really nice which attracted a lot of tourists.

Ordered the tofu in abalone sauce.

Tofu in abalone sauce:

I loved this bubbling hot dish because it was soft and smooth pieces of tofu in rich abalone sauce that was great with rice.
I also found lots of abalone and Chinese Yunnan ham in it.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
The Jasmine tea was really good and fragrant because it was constantly kept hot by the candle.

I was expecting a bit more at R&B

&B stands for Research and Bakery but foodwise, some of the dishes were creative but could have tasted better.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken nuggets:

Chicken nuggets seasoned with lemon, pepper and garlic.
They are different to the usual nuggets because they are pieces of chicken with the skin attached to it.
The chicken was surprisingly juicy with a light crispy coating with a fragrant cracked black pepper taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Caramelized cauliflower:

Cauliflower with Shallots, cane sugar and smoked paprika.
I found them too sweet but the lemon was good for toning the sweetness.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Tea Ball:
Apart from tea, the other drinks were also fun to order such as the chocolate where you are given a bar of chocolate with hot milk to mix together.

Although the tea was presented nicely, it did not steep well and the tea flavour did not diffuse through the ball which was made of thick paper.

By the time the tea did infuse properly the tea was cold!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Potato brick:

Slices of potato with truffle cheese, cream and basil.
As soon as it arrived, the cream on top slid off.
It was thinly sliced potatoes stacked in a neat brick shape similar to potato dauphinoise.
Apart from the artsy fartsy presentation, it just tasted like ordinary potato slices with cream and a hint of truffle.
The basil was wasted because you could not taste it and it was just there as a garnishing.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Fisherman's chips:

seafood, shoestring potatoes, lemon aioli.
It was rather creative that they fried the piece of lemon as well.
This dish actually tasted quite nice because the chips were freshly cut and thin while the seafood was crispy coated in delicate coating.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Buttermilk fried chicken benedict:

egg, biscuit, buffalo hollandaise
The chicken was similar to the fried chicken nuggets ordered before but the biscuit was a bit too sweet and dry for my liking.

Mock Chicken and potato curry

I was after the pasta with creamy sweetcorn and spinach sauce but it was sold out.
Everytime I go there it is always sold out, hopefully someone will review it because I am curious what it looks like.

I had the chicken curry instead.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Chicken and potato curry:

The curry was surprisingly good because it tasted like the normal curry with the usual curry spices, however I wished there was more sauce and I would like it a bit thicker.
The potatoes and carrots were tasty soaked in curry sauce and the vegetarian chicken texture was strikingly similar to real chicken.

The Banqueting House's mooncakes

The Banqueting House (Tsim Sha Tsui)
Recieved a mooncake coupon for The Banqueting House's custard mooncakes.

The mooncakes were in a paper box which was quite environmentally friendly.

【酥皮奶黃月餅】迷你八個裝
After they were reheated they smelt very buttery and the custard filling was sweet and savory.

As they do not have any preservatives they need to be refrigerated.

I would advise getting them before you go home because they need to be refrigerated.

Having a quick dessert inside Cafe Inside

This is the second branch of Cafe Inside, the first branch is located on Water Street in Sai Ying Pun.

It was like a greenhouse inside and there was an open area which is currently wasted.

This place used to be a dry cleaners called Redi something.

Anyway, I stopped by for desserts.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Milk pudding:

The milk pudding was quite nice and it was presented in a beautiful dessert cup.
It was topped with red beans which I did not expect.
Overall the milk pudding was smooth and creamy but slightly too sweet.
