Darkness to go at Pepino Italian Restaurant

It was an honor to attend a dinner held by Orbis and Novotel where participants are blindfolded and led to their tables to enjoy a wonderful meal.

The event makes us appreciate the gift of sight and experience the troubles and inconvenience that blind people run into such as pouring drinks, going to buffets and so on.
We can support blind people by donating to Orbis and even a small donation helps.

There are not many photos as we were obviously blindfold but we were allowed to take off the blindfold for the dessert which was a strawberry cake that was light and sweet with a fresh strawberry on top and a thick layer of strawberry mousse.

London House PUB GRUB by Gordon Ramsay

This is Gordon Ramsay’s second restaurant in HK, with the first being Bread Street Kitchen in Central.
Although I love British food, I still haven’t tried the first yet.
London House is down to earth, facing the Harbour situated in East TST facing the harbour.
It is very lively with DJ’s and bands playing on the weekends and bank holidays and serving popular pub grub such as Fish chips, Bangers and mash, Shepherds pie and grilled items.

Tried the crispy whitebait which was very crispy but perhaps a little overdone for the coating but the fish inside was silky.
Anyway, I need to come again to experience the full English Pub grub experience by eating more mains.

A Korean twist to fast food at Kobab & Koshi

For those who love burgers and Korean food, this is the place to go because they have burgers and quesadillas with a Korean twist with Kimchi.
They also have Korean noodles, salad and fried chicken.

Very hot chicken wings!!

For non beef eaters, they have fish and chicken burgers.
The fish was my favourite because it was like a fish cake but I would have liked more fish in the patty.

As for beef, there are many options depending on whether you like it cheesy or spicy.
I liked the monthly special which was a fried burger!

In the middle there is a fried egg.

Beefburger with fries.

For salads we had the salad jar which was appetizing and colourful containing my favourite purple salad.

We finished with a grapefruit drink that had fresh pink grapefruit bits in it.

Simple and simply delicious burger

On my previous visits, I had the Red eye reduction (brunch burger) and What food eats (vegetarian burger) but this time I decided to try basic burger which has cheese and bacon.

When it came, I was impressed because I saw beef juice drip from the burger, which meant it was going to be a juicy patty.

The beef patty was really good and I rarely eat beef burgers because there’s a lot of crap in it such as offal and elastic bits that you can’t chew.

The patty here was delicious and made of pure dry aged beef and it tasted like a coarsely minced steak that was juicy while the shriveled up bacon was crispy and tasty.

There were sauces on the table but I didn’t really need it.

The only thing that could have been better was the cheese because it was not cheesy enough.

They used to have a secret menu, which you scan the QR code to access, but they now have the secret menu printed out for your convenience because not many people will bother with it.
The secret menu is really good because it gives the menu more variety other than just a simple burger especially for those who do not eat beef will walk away like I did on the first visit until I discovered how delicious their beef burger really was.

Expats new retreat in Mong Kok’s new Marks and Spencers

I rarely go to MK because it is too congested with people and second hand smoke but I went here because of Marks and Sparks which has something different compared to the Central and Tai Koo branch.

Although it boasts to be the biggest food store in Hong Kong, the other MS food stores seem bigger especially the Central branch.

They serve Mac and Cheese balls, Beef and onion/chicken and mushroom slices and there is a nice table to dine there.

I got the Mac and Cheese balls and the steak and onion slice and I would have got tea as well but the staff said I could not use this stamp card because they said it is for Coffee related drinks only.

I was given this card in Central where I have been using it on TEA ONLY and if the dumbasses looked closely at the card you can see tea cups as well as coffee cups.
An email has been sent to Marks and Sparks because the staff should be trained about their own products and services instead of making up non-existent rules and it is a waste of breathe trying to reason with dumb people.

Anyway, the Mac and cheese balls were good, the coating was crispy and it had real cheesy cheese in the middle with decent macaroni but the cheese could have been stronger.
The slice was really good and I haven’t had this for ages because I don’t have an oven.

The puff pastry was flakey and buttery and it was filled with delicious beef in the middle.

Braised pork knuckles with soybeans

Went here again and this time had rice with Braised pork knuckles with soybeans.
The knuckles were delicious with a soft gelatinous texture and it had delicious soybeans in it.
I was really annoyed with the rice though because I hate Japanese pearl rice.
They said Japanese rice was cheaper and people prefer it hence the reason they serve it.

Cherry dessert cup at Saint Honore

I love Cherries so got the new cherry dessert cups.
According to the label, the cherries come from Australia.
They use fresh cherries so they still have stones in the cherry, which they don’t warn you about especially children.
Although it tasted good, it was not worth $20 because it was just two layers of chocolate sponge, two layers of cheap cream, chocolate curls, preserved cherries in the middle and two fresh cherries on top.
