[THE LIGHTHOUSE] French food in surreal paradise

The Lighthouse is helmed by Chef Olivier Bellin, born and raised in Brittany.
Brittany is a coastal French town and The Lighthouse showcases the best from the sea just as you would find in Brittany.

From decor to the view, it felt like dining by the sea with the fishing nets and seashells.

I liked the menu because it was evidently authentic French especially the dessert because they have the floating island, grand profiterole and mille feuille.
On the menu, there was seafood from Brittany and lobster parmentier which was expected.

Started with the seafood platter:
It was definitely the star of the show because when it came, there was a familiar smell from the sea mongers and seafood stalls by the beaches.
My favourites had to be the brown shrimps which are eaten with bread and butter.
The little black sea snails were difficult pick them out but they reminded me of some shellfish I had as a kid.
++++
Langostine:
Next was the langoustine which was presented like they were flying.
They were sweet and there was familiar salty taste from the sea which was good.
++++
Fish soup:
The fish soup was thick and rich.
It was so strong that it tasted a bit like crab paste.
++++
Lobster parmentier:
The lobster parmentier was another heavy dish that is best shared and the mashed potato in the middle was divine.
++++
mussels bouchot:
The mussels were fresh and springy and the bread was perfect for soaking the sauce.

We finished with three stunning desserts. My favourite was the mille feuille because it was very similar to the cream slices we get in UK while the Rum baba was extremely strong in alcohol because the guy was very generous and put quite a fair bit in it!

J'adore Big Fernand

There are lots of mixed reviews on this place, the main complaint is that the patty is too thin but if it is tasty I prefer quality and not quantity.

After trying it, I am convinced to go back because the patties are good and they put decent and FRENCH cheese in it.

You can either choose a burger from the menu or mix and match the way you want it.

The environment was different and I love the French humour because the seats have French jokes on them.

Perche means butt in French and Perche Derche means lick bum!!

Tried two combos, one with salad and one with fries.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
La Bartholome:
This was a beef patty with raclette cheese, pork bacon, caramelized onions, chives, BB Fernand sauce and Tata Fernand sauce.

The beef burger was on the sweet side because of the sauce and caramelized onions.

The patty was juicy and tasty quality grounded pure beef without any chewy bits that you couldn't chew!
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Create your own burger:
Lamb patty with Fourme d'Ambert, grilled eggplant, coriander and tonton Fernand.

Each bite was amazing because the cheese was strong with a slight tart flavour and the lamb was velvety and didn't have a gamey taste.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Fries:

Finally a place that serves proper French fries, what I mean by that is freshly cut fries that are fried and served on the same day.
They had a delicious sweetness in it with a silky centre.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Homemade salad:

It was topped with delicious sun dried tomatoes which gave it a delicious savoury flavour.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Big Fernand lemonades:
There are three flavours: original, lemon and grapefruit.

Each one has a French joke on it, the grapefruit one says to get your lover back if you drink it and the original says hair will grow faster and longer, while the lemonade one says to run faster and longer.
The original tasted like 7-up and the grapefruit had a natural taste and the lemon tastes like home made lemonade.

Anyway, I am addicted and coming back soon to try the VEAL burger!
BIG FERNAND coming to LONDON soon.

Troisieme La Creperie dans L'Hong kong

I was excited when this third branch opened after two successful branches in Hong Kong.
Apart from Hong Kong, they also have branches in Shanghai!
Since my last visit, there are other dishes as well as crepes.
The restaurant was laid out with wooden tables and chairs, lighthouse salt and pepper shakers just like the other branches.

It was like walking into a restaurant by the seaside.
As they have just opened, there were not many people and gradually the restaurant got busy into the evening.
There is a lot of promotion on French food this month because of the LeGourMay so I was able to try some special galettes.

I had the duck confit galette and a sweet crepes.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
La cannette:

This was a savory galette with duck confit, emmenthal cheese, bell peppers fondue and its piment d'espelette jelly.
The galette was crispy and chewy with evenly sized holes on the surface. The confit was delicious with a hint of sweetness from the bell peppers and there was a hint of spiciness from the chili jelly.
Duck in French is Canard which is why this is called a cannette as it is a galette.

Jus de Citron

I know there were lots of fancy crepes on the menu but I just wanted something simple so I chose this which just had lemon, butter and sugar.
The crepe was chewy and the lemon juice made me hungry again.
I loved the strong lemon juice taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆
Strawberry fizz:

To finish off I had the strawberry fizz which was fruity and cooling.

Le French GourMAY at O delice!

My favourite month of May again because restaurants will promote French food and special French dishes that are not normally served.
They should have a month for British food and other countries as well, but French is good because there is cheese.

I went to O delice! again because I love duck and good cheese so I had the special menu that was on for Le French GourMAY.
Too bad Charlies next door has packed up because I love their crispy duck and UK style comfort Chinese food.

All the items are from Midi Pyrenees in the South of France.

When you wait for the food, you can see the crepes being made with the slanted mirror by the kitchen.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Earl grey tea by teapigs:

Started off with earl grey tea that had a strong leafy taste.
★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Smoked duck galette:
This was served with carmelized onions, a dash of curry powder, cherry tomatoes and rocket.

It was absolutely delicious because the crepe was evenly filled with cheese that was savoury with delicious onions on top with a hint of curry.
The crepe was light and crispy.

The duck was wonderful because it is different, it was dark in colour and the texture and taste was like a duck version of parma ham and the rocket leaves help balance the heaviness with its bitterness.

★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★
Cold cut and Cheese platter:
The cheese platter is served after 5pm.
Here are the items in the platter.

A salty and waxy saucisson which tastes a little bit like the snack called pepperami.

Bread for the pork terrine.

Cows cheese and Sheeps cheese.
The cows cheese was light and soft and the sheeps cheese was surprisingly mild.

Pork and mushroom terrine.
I really liked this one because it had an equal balance or pork, mushrooms and it was not that fat.

Bayonne ham which was waxy and not too salty.

Guerkins and fig jam which were really good condiments with the platter.
