[Review] Marks and Spencers Christmas Rainbow Cake

Spotted the Marks and Spencers Christmas Rainbow Cake and the Christmas dinner at some branch so decided to try it the next time I was out.
Sadly they only serve the cake and Christmas dinner at the bigger branches.

Went to Marks and Spencers at Westfield in White City.

We were greeted by the coffee kiosk on the ground floor so we didn't realize there was a bigger cafe upstairs so ended up just having tea.

Went upstairs after tea and discovered a bigger Marks and Spencers cafe where they had the Christmas Rainbow Cake so ended up going there as well to eat it because it is difficult to find another branch.

The layout at this branch was rather bad because the cake stands were too high which made it difficult to put the slice of cake on the plate.

The Marks and Spencers Christmas Rainbow Cake is basically a cake with layers of green, red and plain cake with buttercream topped with sprinkles.

Overall, it was a fancy cake that was instaworthy with colourings that didn't have any special flavours.
The buttercream a bit too sugary for my liking.

Will return for the Christmas dinner as this branch does not offer it.

Peggy Porschen's cakes

Loved the instaworthy mushroom entrance.
As for the cakes, the spiced toffee apple is a must try.
It is best to get there early in the morning like 11am if you want some good photos.

[Review] Pannus Cafe, Camden

I was looking for a place for tea in Camden and went here because Cube Cafe had run out of Cream Teas.
In a way, I am glad they ran out as I ended up here as this cafe is facing the Camden Lock canal with beautiful views.

I was greeted by cakes and these super cute mini doughnut and croissants.

Ended up having the matcha apple cake to go with tea.

Apart from the lovely view, I wasn't that impressed with the presentation of the cake as it was a bit messy with cakes all around the edges of the plate.

Stain marks could also be seen on the cup!

The cake was soggy at the bottom.
Strangely the cake was served on a saucer and not a proper plate.

To summarize the cake was quite soggy and the taste of the apple pieces were quite artificial while the synthetic cream was a bit dehydrated as you can literally separate it from the cake.

After googling this cafe, it seems that it is new and possibly still under teething stages but there are other branches as it is a franchise from Barcelona.
This could be the first branch in UK?

[Review] Cavendish Bakery

Cavendish Bakery is a local bakery that has been in Eastbourne for at least 45 years on the corner of Cavendish Place.

My grandma got me treats from there like Swiss Buns and the cream slice which they don't seem to do anymore.

Anyway, I have been away for a while so the first thing I did was eat there when I got back.

Had the Steak and Kidney pie, Traditional pasty, Donut with cream and the Swiss Bun.

The Swiss bun is a must because that sweet icing topping is so damn good with the soft bun.

If I could go back in time I would have the cream slice again.

McCafe's 20th Birthday in Hong Kong - Rainbow Cake

If it wasn't for this new tea series and rainbow cake I wouldn't have known that McCafe has been in Hong Kong for 20 years. I remember going to a McCafe near North Point MTR station but not sure if that was the first branch.
Anyway,  I happened to be in Fortress Hill so went in for the new Tea!

Out of the drinks choice, I wasn't keen on the Four Seasons Tea because it was tasteless from the shops I have tried before, but still ordered it as it was the only tea choice available.

Spotted the rainbow cake so got that as well.

The bill came to HKD35.

Visually the cup was nice with rainbows on it and there was a decent amount of cheese froth on top.

The cake was topped with colourful candy pearls.

As each layer was a different colour,  I tried each layer to see if the colour made any different but it just tastes the same. The cake was soft, fluffy and not too sweet.

Finished off with the Four Seasons tea which gave me a surprise because it had a strong taste compared to the ones I have tried before.
On top of the cheese foam, there was some dried tea leaves which enhances the tea flavour when they get in your mouth and you end up chewing them.
The cheese foam texture was thick like double cream but I find it strange they call it cheese because it wasn't cheesy but sweetened.
Anyhow the thick creamy cap and the tea were a match made in heaven.

I felt quite content after having the cake and drink because I didn't feel thirsty or have any strange aftertaste in my mouth.
Definitely will be back to try the berries drink as strawberries and thick cream go so well together.

[La Famille] Festive cakes

La Famille is a famous for its soft and dreamy Chiffon cakes.

I remember going to their cozy joint in Tai Hang.
They now have more to offer including these pretty jelly cakes with flowers in it.

For Christmas, they have launched three cakes for Christmas.

Each Christmas cake is quite different, personally I prefer something simple so chose the white one which has the signature chiffon cake inside smothered in delicious Hokkaido cream with fresh strawberries.

This cake will be available from the 17th but as it was my friends birthday they were able to make this cake.
The taste was as good as expected with the pairing of fluffy chiffon and dreamy cream.

Hello Summer at [The Artisan Room]

I was meeting friends at The Cobo House which is right next door.
Since I was early, I went inside [The Artisan Room] to have a look.
It was a chic and modern place for drinks and cakes.
The cakes in display cabinet were so pretty.

On the side they have high quality teas which you can smell.
You can also buy the Designtific Scientific Coffee kit which has ground coffee in vials, drip-bags, and sugar in micro tubes. Ground coffee is sealed in each injection bottle for freshness and each bottle contains just the right amount for a cup of coffee.

It was hot so I had the Longan Sparkling drink from the Hello Summer Series.

The Longan Sparkling drink was so good as it wasn't too sweet and not everyday do you come across sparkling drinks that are longan based.

Definitely coming back for cakes and tea.

Christmas at HABITŪ

Recently went to the Christmas party at HABITŪ where we got to preview the coming delights.

A one-stop-shop for all your festive food and drink, HABITŪ has also invited model and pastry chef Amanda Strang to design a collection of cakes and cookies.

HABITŪ x Amanda Strang White Christmas Collection:

The most luxurious of Amanda’s desserts is the White Christmas Log Cake (HK$688), a
vanilla tiramisu mousse with creamy cranberry and sour cherry jelly on a cranberry dacquoise.
(also available in miniature white Christmas Mini Log Cake for HK$52).

Less decadent but no less delicious is Santa’s Chestnut Pound Cake, (HK$25 per slice), which
features marrons glacé and Belgium chocolate flakes folded inside the French butter pound cake.
Finally, Amanda created Rudolph’s Biscuits (HK$98 per box) which are buttery cookies with
hazelnuts, cranberries and cocoa nibs.

Winter lattes were a colourful choice of matcha, beetroot and turmeric which can be made with coffee or coffee free.

The beetroot one was amazing because you can literally taste blended beetroot in it and the Christmas White truffle drinks come with a winged cup or cookie wings if you have it there.

Foodwise, I liked the festive dishes especially the Linguine Pasta with Smoked Turkey in
Beetroot Cream Sauce which is very Christmassy.
It is really thoughtful that HABITŪ has quite a few vegetarian options such as Sweet potato Beet Wellington and Avocado Organic Quinoa Kale Caesar.

Unknown to me, HABITŪ has an impressive cake library that can be ordered!
I loved the sparkling silver cake and the black cake Gothic table chandeliers.

Thanks to HABITŪ we got to have fun and decorate our own personalized cake.
